Pros

  • Door-to-door delivery within 90 minutes
  • Restaurants can set own delivery radius
  • Allows advanced delivery schedule
  • Affordably priced; no hidden charges

Cons

  • No mobile app available
  • Early ordering cut-off

The main reason why we adore Rover Courier is because they make deliveries easier for the Torontonians—they offer same-day door-to-door deliveries within 90 minutes!

As a food delivery service, we really like their efficiency. It’s a plus that they can help you schedule after-hour deliveries, and you can even arrange to send cookies to Mom on holidays!

Their scheduled deliveries are also a plus in our books since Rover Courier’s ordering hours end pretty early at 6:00 PM. It’s an early cut-off for us.

Despite operating same-day deliveries only in Toronto and the GTA, we were glad they offer the same service within 500 km. That’s a pretty far reach, don’t you think?

Another helpful feature is they allow Toronto restaurants to set their own delivery radius. It lets businesses reach a wider audience, which we commend Rover Courier for.

Looking on the bright side, we appreciate you can schedule a delivery in advance. It’s another convenient feature we like, ideal for food pick-ups—great for small businesses!

Notably, Rover Courier doesn’t have expensive commission rates—perfect business owners! They allow restaurants to use their own websites for online orders, and in turn, Rover will take care of the delivery.

Furthermore, it means no worries about hidden charges, which is something we appreciate. Consequently, it keeps the costs down for food deliveries.

But a minor issue we found is Rover Courier doesn’t have a mobile app. Currently, you can only order through their web application.

Nonetheless, the positive aspect of their web app is it’s easy to use—it’s straightforward, and you don’t have to be a techie to use it! They also have real-time tracking and send SMS or email notifications to users.

Overall, Rover Courier is one of our best food delivery services picks in Toronto because of their affordability and efficiency!

Pros

  • Has a mobile and web app
  • Has GPS tracking
  • Easy-to-use service
  • Has over 6,000 restaurants
  • No minimum order requirement

Cons

  • Some missing orders marked as delivered
  • Slow refund process

SkipTheDishes is an easy-to-use food delivery service available for Toronto residents. The convenience they provide is one of our favourite things.

The convenience is due to having a mobile app for both Android and Apple phones. But we found it incredible that they also have a web app, allowing you to order without downloading anything on your phone.

We like that you can order from over 6,000 restaurants anywhere in the city, whether at home or work. Plus, you can conveniently see the open restaurants in your area!

Furthermore, there are many cuisines to choose from. We like the various choices, from famous establishments to locally-owned eateries.

One more positive feature is the absence of a minimum order requirement. The only thing you need to keep in mind is the delivery fee, which varies depending on your distance from the restaurant.

Additionally, we appreciate the GPS tracking. It keeps you updated about your order since you can see where the SkipTheDishes driver is.

However, we found it disappointing that some customers didn’t receive their orders, even though the app indicated that they had been delivered.

Another concern we have is the slow refund process. It somehow stains the experience, no?

Nonetheless, SkipTheDishes is one of our top choices for food delivery services in Toronto. But we think that there’s room for improvement in customer service, particularly with handling refunds.

Pros

  • Available on Android and Apple phones
  • Has many restaurant selections
  • Provides various discounts
  • Quick refund process

Cons

  • High upfront fees
  • Uber One has minimum orders for 0% delivery fee
  • Glitchy app; issues with GPS

It’s no secret that Uber Eats is one of Toronto’s most popular food delivery apps. Many Canadians use it because of how convenient their app is!

Uber Eats is available on Android and Apple. So, no matter where you are, you can order food! Convenient!

Their food selection is impressive, too. There are 80 restaurants in Downtown Toronto alone, with different cuisines.

Plus, we appreciate the various promo codes and discounts they give out. However, there are some negatives we found.

One is the delivery fee, which costs $2 for small orders unless you get their $9.99 a month Uber One subscription. Even so, the subscription has a minimum order from eligible restaurants to claim the 0% delivery fee!

Also, a 10% service fee is applied on all orders, big or small. The high upfront fees stack up, which is an issue for us.

On the upside, the refund process of Uber Eats is pretty fast compared to other food delivery apps. It’s an easy fix if your food doesn’t arrive on your doorstep—hopefully, it won’t happen!

We like that there are no worries about wondering where your order is because Uber Eats has real-time GPS tracking. You can see where the driver is, which is convenient if your apartment doesn’t allow food riders.

But a minor problem is the glitchy app. Some customers experienced non-functioning GPS, where the driver icon doesn’t seem to move. It’s somewhat contradictory, isn’t it?

The convenience of Uber Eats is worth downloading the food delivery app for. Just ready yourself for the high upfront fees on top of the tip!

Pros

  • Has a mobile app
  • Partners with many restaurants
  • Has a navigation system
  • Provides customizable orders
  • Offers many promo codes

Cons

  • High extra fees
  • Has a Small Order Fee
  • DashPash has a $12 minimum for free delivery

DoorDash partners with thousands of restaurants in Toronto, featuring local establishments and big chains. We found it convenient that they’re available via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and you can order anywhere, anytime!

They also have an in-app navigation system so you can check your driver’s location, which we think is useful if you need to meet up with the rider.

Going back to the food establishments, we like that you can pick from any cuisine, such as French, Mexican, Korean, and more! No need to keep your stomach grumbling!

Another aspect we really like is you can customize your order down to the smallest detail. You can add extra sauce or make your Tim’s sweeter.

It’s also an advantage that there’s no required minimum order. Unless the restaurants are closed, you can get your cravings any time of day.

But keep in mind that small orders come with a fee called the Small Order Fee. In our opinion, the extra fees aren’t ideal for everyone, especially those living alone.

We think it’s a bummer, though, that you need to subscribe to their DashPass, which is 9.99 a month, to claim a zero delivery fee. Unfortunately, it also requires a minimum order, which is over $12.

Due to the fees, we suggest checking out their promotions page for discount codes. If you’re lucky, you may get up to 50% off, which can help balance out the hidden charges.

Pros

  • Focuses on workplace food needs
  • Provides platter meals and catering
  • No vendor markup pricing
  • No service fees
  • Provides customizable orders

Cons

  • Not ideal for small groups
  • High delivery fees for some restaurants

Thriver, formerly called Platterz, specializes in managing workplace culture needs. Their focus is making sure no office goes hungry!

From what we’ve seen, they’re who you’d call for large orders. We appreciate that they make it easy to order food for work events and company parties.

Plus, there are a lot of restaurants available—over 2,000! We like the variety of cuisines, making them a convenient option for dietary preferences.

Furthermore, we like that many featured restaurants provide platter meals and catering. Thriver is all about workplace needs, after all.

But their specialization is both their strength and weakness. They are different from your usual food delivery service, and you can’t order on a whim if you’re a small group.

Why do we say that? Most restaurants on Thriver require a minimum order, sometimes $100 or $150. If you have a small group, the delivery fee will usually be higher—it can go up to $50.

On the upside, you can customize each order on Thriver. Yup, you can customize each food even if you have 50 orders!

A notable aspect is that they don’t charge service fees or markup vendor pricing. That means no hidden charges!

Ultimately, we found Thriver to be an excellent food delivery service for Toronto workplaces. But you better check another service if you’re ordering from home.
