If you have to know one thing about me, it’s that I always go nuts for donuts. With its golden hues, deliciously soft center, and perfectly sweet flavour, my sugary cravings are totally satisfied!

There’s nothing like a good donut and coffee combo to wake me up in the morning. I know it isn’t the healthiest breakfast, but life’s too short not to taste the sweet things in life, right?

And now here I am, sharing with you my most beloved donuts in Edmonton because they’re too good not to share! Treat yourself to these donut shops that will hook you in with every bite!

Take 5

Price Range:

  • Per Piece: $2.24
  • Boxed Donuts: $12.99 – $23.49
  • Donut Holes: $0.33 – $9.25

It’s a crime not to include Take 5, an original donut shop located in the Beverly Heights neighbourhood and most beloved by Edmontonians. Even the shop is old school, like a nostalgic place you used to go to when you were young.

They’re popular for their traditional and non-pretentious donuts. They don’t do any over-the-top flavours but stick to classic ones, like the famous creme supreme—it’s perfect for those donut cravings without crazy toppings.

If it’s your first time visiting, do not leave without trying their French cruller, which many Edmontonians will recommend (probably 99% of the city population, but I’m no expert). It’s tender on the inside yet perfectly crispy on the outside.

Pro Tip:

Since this is a traditional donut shop, remember to bring cash.

One of the best donuts is a short drive outside of Edmonton. Sherwood Park Bakery is located 18 minutes away from downtown—and let me just say the drive outside of town is so worth it!

This local favourite (for Edmonton and Sherwood Park residents alike) serves the meanest fresh donuts every day! You get the classic round donuts, Long John’s, and Dutchies.

There’s a decent assortment of flavours as well, such as chocolate, maple, and Boston cream. Their apple fritters are one of their top sellers, which we really recommend you try!

Each bite is fluffy. You can taste the high-quality ingredients and the donuts are extremely fresh. Plus, the service is really quick!

Pro Tip:

Drive early to avoid long lines. There’s usually a queue, and the donuts can be sold out before closing time. But the wait is worth it, I promise!

Edmonton’s Hello Mochi is not your typical donut shop. They serve soft and chewy mochi donuts, which are basically a cross between a donut and mochi—a unique experience for your taste buds!

The chewiness is a surprise if you aren’t used to mochi, but the unique texture it gives is addicting! There’s a good variety of premium flavours, such as snickerdoodle, dark Callebaut, cafe mocha, and salted caramel.

For extra fun, the flavours change a lot, so you can taste something new each time you visit. The donuts are inspired by Asian and Canadian flavours, like maple bacon pecan and ube (a famous Filipino dessert).

Pro Tip:

If you want to try specialty flavours, order in person instead of online. Mainstay donuts are always available for online orders, but limited ones are not guaranteed.

The donuts look so good, it’s criminal (honestly, they taste as good as they look). You’ll eat a lot because they sell per box, available in a variety of four and a dozen.

All donuts served are nut-free and dairy-free (with vegan options as well), which makes this a pleasant stop for people with allergies and dietary restrictions. And the flavours? Oh man, they’re so unique, it’s never boring here!

The flavours rotate every two weeks, so it’s always a taste adventure. Some yummy flavours they’ve served are blackberry chai, pink lemonade, tiramisu, and orange poppyseed.

Pro Tips:

If you’re ordering a dozen online, pick the “3 Variety Boxes of 4” option to save $5.
The coffee flavours rotate as well, so if you find one you like, we suggest purchasing the coffee beans so you can have them at home.

With every bite, you’ll experience soft and fluffy donuts that aren’t overly sweet. All that for an affordable price? No wonder they’re a local hotspot!

The apple fritter, a bestseller, is perfectly crispy with the right amount of glaze. It pulls apart quite nicely and you can actually divide it piece by piece, which is cool because this donut is huge!

Pro Tips:

Arrive as early as you can, especially if you’re coming for the donuts, because these sell out really quickly. Sometimes, they’re all gone just hours after opening.

But fret not! If they run out of donuts, you can still buy freshly baked bread and other pastries.
