Boo! 12 Frightfully Spooky (Yet Fun) Halloween Activities in Edmonton
Enter if you dare! We’re all excited about tricks and treats this Halloween! Edmonton is hauntingly good this time of the year, which is honestly one of my favourite seasons!
Once the sky turns dark, all the ghosts, ghouls, zombies, and witches come alive. And I love a good scare!
My buddies and I have already been to the spookiest haunted houses in Ontario, so it’s natural we move to spooktacular Halloween activities in Alberta’s capital city!

Deadmonton Haunted House

For the 11th year, Deadmonton Haunted House creeps it real with all the scares it brings. Enter the haunted houses if you’re brave enough to get spooked by ghosts, monsters, and eerie things.
Each haunted house has a different theme, with scary sounds and effects, taking around 10 to 20 minutes to get through. So, grab each other’s hands and get ready to be spooked by the hauntingly good actors!
Each year, the haunted houses change. You’ll still get new scares even if you’ve attended the previous years—it’s a spooky surprise every time!
Pro Tip:
The recommended age is 12+, but it’s a really scary experience. If your child gets spooked easily, better leave them at home. If they get too scared to enter, no refunds will be given.
We all know going in costume is tempting, but stick to wearing casual clothes. Costumes and props aren’t allowed inside the haunted houses to ensure everyone’s safety.

Head to Borden Park for the boo-tiful Pumpkins After Dark. This award-winning event will take you around 1 km of walkthrough to see over 10,000 hand-carved pumpkins.
See and photograph intricate pumpkin designs, like dinosaurs and famous Halloween creatures. Then, head over to the food trucks for some treats and drinks.
Bring the kids because this event doesn’t have jump scares. There are no scary monsters who will leap out and frighten the guests.
Pro Tips:
Porta potties are only available at the start and end of the walkthrough. If you have kids, make sure they go potty before coming since you’ll be walking for an hour or two.
Remember to purchase your tickets on the website. There are no walk-ins and no ticket sales onsite.
SCREAM

Have a spooktacular time at SCREAM, an annual event where you can scream and dance your heart out. Wear your spookiest costume and make memories at this 18+ event.
Enjoy the best that electronic dance music has to offer. The chillingly spectacular lineup will include the best musicians and DJs, ready to bring you killer beats that will enthrall you all night long.
Keep your body energized by trying out local and international flavours. There’s going to be a wide variety of food vendors to cater to everyone’s tastebuds—oh, and did we mention this event has an alcohol license? Drink up!
Pro Tips:
If you’re coming in costume, remember not to bring weapons as accessories and don’t dress up as a public safety officer, such as police, SWAT, or firemen. You may not be able to enter and you’ll need to change your costume.
This is a Halloween event that has loads of energy. To make sure you have a good time, keep yourself hydrated.
Dark

Scaredy cats are not allowed at Dark at Fort Edmonton Park. This freakishly good event is all about the boos and the screams. Survive the night and escape the monsters and the killer clowns!
The hair-raising experiences will have you screaming and closing your eyes. But the deliciously spectacular food and the hauntingly good drinks will make you brave enough to stay.
So, it’s time to summon your courage and meet Dr. Dark’s scary friends at this creeptastic Halloween event!
Pro Tip:
Book your tickets as early as you can. There’s limited availability, so make sure you plan ahead to avoid missing out!
Kiwi’s Haunted House

Come one, come all! Celebrate the spooky season at Kiwi’s Haunted House. The trail and greenhouse transform into a haunted, spooky maze with monsters, clowns, and witches leaping out at you!
As the night gets darker, more scary things are added for a bone-chilling experience. Maybe you can meet their resident black cat, Charlie, who approves every detail at this Halloween event.
While you’re there, grab a pumpkin to carve or some creepy plants to add to your collection.
Pro Tips:
Saturdays may be busy. If you want to skip the line, you can purchase a priority pass for a higher fee.
You can save money and help the food bank. If you bring a food bank donation, you can get a discounted rate.

Choose your poison. Pick any of the ghost tours or all of them to see which one will scare you the most! The tours include creepy buildings and haunted pubs in Old Strathcona and the University of Alberta.
Not only will you be listening to ghostly stories, but you’ll also learn about reported hauntings from a seasoned storyteller. This is also a fantastic activity for travellers who want to hear about Edmonton’s history.
Pro Tip:
Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes because you’ll be walking a whole lot. It’s also recommended to wear comfortable clothing and bring an umbrella or a poncho because the tours will proceed rain or shine.
Rutherford Manor Haunt

Rutherford Manor Haunt is back for the 2024 season to give Edmontonians the creeps! Get ready to enter the creepy haunted house that will give you jump scares.
This chilling experience will have you screaming your lungs out as you see the well-designed macabre rooms with lights and sound effects. Creepy monsters will surprise you left and right in this frightening house!
Pro Tip:
There are no tickets available yet, so keep an eye out. Remember that tickets are in the form of donations to the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) and the Edmonton Food Bank.
Boo at the Zoo

Come to Edmonton Valley Zoo for the animals and the treats! A kid-friendly Halloween event is Boo at the Zoo, where kids can enjoy fun activities without getting frightened by ghosts! No jump scares here!
This time, kids can dress up at the zoo and go trick or treating while watching the animals eat pumpkins and other delicious treats.
Look out for extra activities the kids can join. There may be new ones added each year, so make sure the children can participate for a whole lotta fun!

Tickets are not available onsite. Visit this website once the tickets are available.
This is an outdoor event, so dress appropriately. The event will push through rain or shine, so make sure you have extra shirts.
Fright Night

Head over to the massive West Edmonton Mall for the thrilling Fright Night. Celebrate the start of the Halloween season by enjoying the spine-chilling rides at Galaxyland!
Brace yourself for ghostly greetings at this family-friendly event. The whole place will be darker than usual and decorated with spooky stuff while scary creatures roam the grounds, so practice your screams!
You’ll need to escape the spooky monsters by getting on the adrenaline-pumping rides at this indoor amusement park! Time to get ready for the chills, thrills, and smiles!
Pro Tip:
Booking your ticket online is cheaper than purchasing at the door. Prices are yet to be announced, but there may be a $5 difference.

Enjoy a hauntingly beautiful night at Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics. Take a break screaming your heart out and running away from zombies—this time, take pleasure in a multi-sensory musical experience that won’t give you a fright.
It’s one of those spectacular nights you must experience. Listen to Halloween classics played by a string quartet under the warm glow of candlelight (all are LED for safety).
Some songs you might hear are “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, Beetlejuice theme by Danny Elfman, and Funeral March of a Marionette by Charles Gounod.
If you’re looking for a romantic date night in the midst of the scary Halloween season, this is the place to go.
Pro Tip:
If you don’t mind not being up close to the stage, you can book Zone B for a cheaper price.
Trick or Treat at West Edmonton Mall

Wear your spookiest costume and head over to West Edmonton Mall and go trick or treating! This shopping, dining, and events hub brings out all the treats for the kids on Halloween.
This is a family-friendly activity, so the whole family can don their favourite costumes. Make sure your feet are ready because you’ll be exploring this massive mall to find the selected participating retailers.
Don’t worry because West Edmonton Mall will have a candy map that makes it easier to find the spooktacular stores. Time to shout trick or treat and fill your bag with many sweet delights!
Pro Tip:
West Edmonton Mall is the biggest mall in the city. We recommend skipping uncomfortable shoes so you can have a grand spooky time without worrying about your feet.
Spruce Ridge Scare

If you live near Spruce Grove, the Spruce Ridge Scare is a must-visit. Sure, it’s a short drive from Edmonton, but it’s worth it!
For seven years in a row, this amateur haunted house has continued to bring us spooktacular experiences and has helped out local organizations. Scares and fundraising in one? Count us in!
Get frightened by scary monsters lurking in the dark. But once all the guests leave, they’ll be counting the food bank donations to help out!
Pro Tip:
Don’t bring prop weapons inside. If you have one with you, you can leave it outside with the staff and retrieve it after your walkthrough at the haunted house.
