Pros

  • Offers a wide variety of services
  • Translates over 150 languages
  • Has over 300 professional linguists
  • Accepts many document translations

Cons

  • A bit pricey
  • Some complaints about customer service

Document Genie offers a variety of services, from translation to notary public. It has two offices: one in Edmonton and one in Surrey, BC.

The main advantage of Document Genie is it provides translation services for many kinds of documents. We were glad to know they accept the translation of legal documents, medical documents, websites, and even passport stamps.

Honestly, we were impressed with their services because it’s helpful to immigrants. Newcomers can have any legal document translated to make their transition in the country smoother.

Other than that, we were glad to know that they provide translations of more than 150 languages. Moreover, they have over 300 professional linguists!

This high number of professionals is what allows Document Genie to translate into many languages, which we were happy about.

Besides translation services, they offer notary, commissioning, and fingerprinting. For us, this variety of services they offer are useful for clients who need other document assistance – a plus for convenience!

Another aspect we liked is the quick turnaround time. Some clients we surveyed mentioned receiving their translated documents in just days, which is really fast in our books.

These aspects left a good impression on us. Thus, we were disappointed to find that some of their services were a tad pricey for some customers, especially since they promised reasonable prices.

Another complaint that keeps on popping up is their initial interaction with their clients. We believe the Document Genie staff can improve their customer service because some felt they needed to communicate more to avoid misunderstandings.

Pros

  • Provides fast turnaround time
  • Provides confidentiality agreement
  • Offers reasonable prices
  • Has accurate translations

Cons

  • Has no physical office
  • Limited languages

Cesar Montes Toledo – Spanish Translation Services offers English and Spanish translations in Edmonton and its surrounding areas. He has over 13 years in the industry, working as a translator and interpreter.

What we liked most about Toledo is he was born and raised in Peru, earning his first-hand knowledge of the Spanish language. For us, this is an advantage because of his expertise in the language.

Adding to his expertise is his work for Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Canada Border Services, and the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

For us, this highly speaks about his familiarity and skills in translating many types of legal documents.

Furthermore, he can also do freelance work as a member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA). We were glad about this because clients can hire him for simple and short documents.

A minor concern we have about freelance work is the confidentiality of legal documents. But it’s nothing to worry about because Toledo offers a confidentiality agreement before the service.

It’s also worth highlighting that he provides reasonable rates. Although longer texts will be normally more expensive, it’s still affordable compared to other translation services in Edmonton.

We were also happy about how fast he could do the translation, even as a one-man service. He can also deliver within the promised time frame, which we found commendable.

These positive aspects earned Toledo high points in our book! However, we found that not having a physical office can deter some people from hiring him because documents need to be delivered, which can be scary if the post office loses them.

Another drawback is he can only do Spanish and English translations. This limits his clientele, unfortunately.

On the bright side, Toledo has shown excellent work quality. His translations have been accurate, which is the main factor we want when hiring a translator.

Pros

  • Highly certified translators
  • Translates over 60 languages
  • Considers the tone, style, and intent
  • Has two offices

Cons

  • By appointment only
  • Weekend deliveries have additional fee

One of the main factors that made us notice Words Without Borders (aside from the recognizable name) is that only ATIA-certified translators run the company.

Moreover, the team of translators has the right experience and knowledge to provide accurate translation services. Some even served as ATIA presidents, which we found highly impressive.

Additionally, some translators have even worked for the government. For us, this adds to their expertise in translating legal documents.

Their knowledge of the legal system helps when interpreting documents, especially for immigrants who aren’t fluent in English or French. We liked these aspects because not all Edmonton translators have first-hand knowledge of the legal system.

Furthermore, their expertise means accurate translations. The team even includes the original language’s intent, style, and tone, which not all translators can do.

Aside from legal documents, they also accept personal translations. Since they consider the distinct tone, this helps clients get their personal message across even in another language.

On top of those, they currently have two offices – one in Edmonton and one in Calgary. Plus, they can translate over 60 languages!

However, it’s important to know that they only accept clients on an appointment basis. Sadly, those who need immediate service may need to look elsewhere if they can’t get a schedule.

Also, they have a rush fee for documents delivered on the weekend. This was saddening since they accept Saturday appointments.

Pros

  • Highly familiar with immigration documents
  • Translates over 135 languages
  • Accepts same-day service
  • Has affordable rates
  • Also offers immigration services

Cons

  • By appointment only
  • Closed on Saturdays

RCIC Immigration Services is a firm that helps newcomers with documents when moving to Canada. It offers translation services, one of the to-do list for immigrants.

We were impressed with the team’s knowledge of legal documents, especially since they specialize in immigration. We find that their familiarity with legal documents can significantly help when translating accurately.

Furthermore, they can translate various documents, including driver’s licenses, contracts, police certificates, and legal documents. These services are helpful because clients can go to a single company for many translation services.

Aside from that, we were impressed they translate into over 135 languages, including Finnish, Arabic, and Spanish. These many languages allow them to cater to a broader clientele, which is a positive aspect.

Other than that, the translators can do fast service. Some clients were even surprised they received same-day service.

The prices are affordable, too. Many also liked the value for money because of the accurate translations.

We were also glad it’s easy to get a hold of them. People, especially immigrants, can contact them via WhatsApp, a popular messaging app outside Canada.

In our opinion, it’s convenient that clients can easily contact them because they’re strictly on an appointment basis. Their office is also closed on Saturdays, unlike other translation services in Edmonton.

Lastly, one thing that makes them stand out is how they offer immigration on top of their translation services!

Although they accept Saturday appointments, one can’t get a confirmed schedule unless there’s availability. Sadly, this can be inconvenient for those who need an emergency service.

Pros

  • Open daily
  • Specializes in translation services
  • Provides notarized translated papers
  • Has fair prices
  • Fast turnaround time

Cons

  • Added fee for digital and hard copy papers
  • Limited target language available

The main factor we liked about Hola Translations is that it specializes in translating various documents, which is useful for newcomers in the country.

It has a team of professional translators, ensuring that each document will be accurate. Apart from that, they specialize in many types of documents, including legal, medical, engineering, and even computer science.

Additionally, they are equipped to offer notarized translations. These documents are legally valid for immigration, allowing clients to have two services at once.

The clients we conversed with mentioned the accurate translations. This left a positive impression on us because accuracy is the most vital factor in translation services.

Although we appreciated that they could translate from any language source, the target language they have is a bit limited. Currently, they only translate documents into 13 languages.

On a brighter note, they offer fair prices. Many clients liked the value for money, too, because of the top-notch service.

We were also glad that they could deliver results within the promised time frame. Some even said they received their documents in a couple of days despite having many pages.

And while we appreciate clients can get digital and hard copies of their translated papers, there’s a $5.00 fee for both formats.

Lastly, it’s quite rare for translators to be available on weekends. That’s why we were happy that Hola Translations is open daily.
