YYC Cycle Spin Studio is one of the most famous options for spin classes in Calgary. Rightly so, their studio is well-maintained and offers premium models of bikes.
We also asked their students why they keep returning to this studio, and they said it’s because of its accessibility. For instance, the app allows them to book a class at their preferred time and with their preferred instructor.
However, our interviewees said it didn’t matter who the instructor was during their preferred schedule, as they all exuded contagious energy. We were also pleased to discover that the instructors take time to help newcomers adapt by communicating effectively.
The classes were also highlighted during our interviews as fun and engaging, with some students noting the great music blasting through the speakers.
While the instructors were praised, we also heard some complaints about the staff’s customer service, particularly their “rude” attitude. However, we appreciated that the studio takes accountability for these incidents by apologising to the affected students.
Great energy
“I have been attending YYC Cycle Marda Loop for a few months now and have not had one bad experience. The staff are always so kind, classes start on time, and the instructors have great energy.
I love how I feel like I am never taking the same class twice; it is always different. Would 100% recommend.”

Super welcoming
“Awesome spot! I’m new to Spin, and everyone at the front desk was super welcoming and answered all my questions. Also loved the instructor, Cat! She helped me with bike setup and had great descriptions of the exercises to help everyone stay on beat.
Music choice was also fun, with provided earplugs!”

We were already aware of Big Sky Fitness before compiling this list because of its positive reputation as one of the top commercial gyms in Calgary.
Diving deeper, we spoke with current members, and they told us that the sense of community within the spin classes in the gym is what makes them loyal. They attributed the healthy environment to the instructors, whom they praised for being extremely encouraging and kind.
One of the classes our interviewees highlighted was the “Spin and Strength”, which they said improved their cardio and overall body strength after numerous sessions. They also shared how they enjoyed the 50-50 class, divided into stationary biking and a variety of floor exercises.
We also did an ocular of the gym, and we were impressed with how well-maintained and premium it was. It offered complete equipment as well as amenities like free water, changing rooms, and shower rooms—plus, they’re open 24/7.
Once we saw how much a membership costs here, however, we discovered why it felt so premium. Fortunately, they also offer drop-in packages for those who prefer less commitment.
Made the entire experience genuinely enjoyable
“Chris has been an incredible trainer. He is extremely knowledgeable, he knows exactly how to encourage without ever being pushy, and he consistently helps me get the most out of every session.
He pushed me in the right way, he kept me motivated, and he made the entire experience genuinely enjoyable. On top of that, he is an all-around great human being. Five stars, I highly recommend working with Chris.”

The Sweat Lab caught our attention for its hybrid spin classes. We liked how they incorporated other exercises, such as yoga, barre, strength, and core training throughout rigorous 50-minute sessions.
Students who consistently attend these classes shared their fondness for the perfect balance between challenging and enjoyable. Furthermore, they highlighted how these classes helped them improve both their cardio and strength.
They also mentioned that they love coming here specifically for the sauna, which sounds perfect after an intense workout. We also saw the gym first-hand, and we were impressed with the complete amenities and premium facilities.
Customer service was also a significant draw for those who are currently enrolled here. We were told that their phone lines and live chat channels are always responsive, and that they’re always treated like family here.
Our only gripe is its slightly inconvenient location, as it’s a bit far from the city centre.
Challenging and enjoyable
“The Sweat Lab is my favourite studio in Calgary. The classes and instructors are challenging and enjoyable. The front staff is always friendly and welcoming. The space is beautiful and always clean. I always leave feeling rejuvenated!”

Urban Athlete Fitness Studio was recommended to us by its students because of its fun and motivational classes. They said that the classes are made much more enjoyable because of the playlist personally curated by the instructors.
These instructors were also praised for their motivational approach to each class. A handful of students even mentioned that they’re the reason they keep coming back to these classes, as they’d feel FOMO if they missed a session.
The sessions were also praised for having just the right amount of toughness. We’ve had students testify that these classes helped them lose weight and improve their cardio in the process.
As for the gym itself, we wish that it offered more space. However, the staff members do make up for this by laying out the equipment strategically so that it doesn’t feel cramped.
These staff members are also highlighted for their friendliness, which helps newcomers get rid of beginner jitters. Plus, the team features a friendly dog named Marvin.
Classes are great
“I love this place! I’ve never felt so comfortable at a gym before. The staff is great, classes are great, and the gym is very clean. The owner is super nice!
I’ve been training with Wendy for 6 months now, and she is so, so awesome. The care and dedication she puts into her job and her clients is so admirable. She’s changed my mindset completely for the better and made me feel strong + confident. 5 stars highly recommend!”

Incredibly knowledgeable
“I have really enjoyed my experience at Urban Athlete so far. The staff are always very welcoming and friendly, they remember you by name, and if you’re lucky, you’ll be greeted by the cutest ambassador, Marvin.
The gym itself is small but clean and well laid out, with a lot of machines and equipment. Great selection of fitness classes at convenient times. My trainer, Cory, is incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and encouraging. I would recommend this gym to anyone!”

Home Lifestyle Club stands out from other fitness studios in Calgary by offering a more homey environment instead of your typical commercial gym. This is evident as soon as you enter its space, as the interior features furniture, paintings, and moody lighting.
This atmosphere was highlighted by our interviewees, who told us that it made them feel comfortable while attending their spin classes.
Furthermore, they attributed the “at-home” feeling to the instructors themselves, whom they praised for being the perfect balance of welcoming and motivating. These pros also make the class enjoyable by incorporating choreography that coincides with their catchy playlists.
We were also pleased to discover that the spin classes were effective. Students told us how each 45-minute session feels like a strenuous full-body workout, but with an added fun factor.
They also told us about the spin workout, which features variety, offering climbing, sprints, and even weightlifting.
We only wish that they could extend their main studio in the near future, as it’s a bit cramped at the time of writing.
Energised and varied
“I was in Calgary for a month and joined while staying nearby in Mission. After nearly eight months away from fitness classes due to a difficult past experience, I was nervous to start again. But from the first visit, I felt welcomed, supported, and genuinely uplifted.
The space is beautiful, the classes are energising and varied, and the little touches — like a cool scented towel at the end — made every visit feel like self-care, not a chore.
What really made the difference were the trainers. Adam, Kate, Lindsay, and Meghan stood out for their warmth and encouragement, both in person and online — several even connected with me on Instagram, cheering me on and helping me feel part of the community.
For anyone new to fitness, or returning after time away, that kind of support means everything.
A special shoutout to Ang, who helped me figure out a short-term membership that actually worked for my stay and made every interaction feel personal and thoughtful. Her kindness and responsiveness made such a difference.
Rumour has it they’re turning the upstairs into a Nordic spa and cold plunge area — just one more reason I hope to be back soon.
Home Lifestyle Club isn’t just a gym. It’s a genuinely positive, welcoming space that helps people feel good in their bodies and in their routines. I can’t recommend it enough — and I would 100% be a member if I lived in Calgary!”

Bright, fun, and so motivating
“I LOVE HOME!
The studio is bright, fun, and so motivating. The front desk girls are amazing; they make you feel so welcome when you walk in the door. The instructors… don’t get me started on how awesome each and every one is!
Brittany and her team are top-notch. I always tell my friends to go check them out; they won’t regret it! P.S., did I mention the cookies and coffee? Go see for yourself ;)”
