Mortgage Connection immediately drew our attention as it’s one of the more tenured companies in the market. This led us to the conclusion that they’re one of the most reliable and reputable brokers to trust in Calgary, and thankfully, we were right.

Aside from its longevity, we were also sold on this company because of its talented roster of brokers. It’s easily one of the most varied and best teams in Calgary and the best part is that they make it easy for clients to match with their brokers!

Potential clients can either search for the name of their preferred broker on the website or filter the list to suit their needs and make the list a lot narrower. From there, people can easily scan through the candidates and choose who they think is the best for them.

As for their services, we were pleased to find out that they offer both residential and commercial mortgage services. We were especially impressed with the former, as they assisted with things like purchasing a new home, home equity loans, etc.

Our only gripe with this company is that some brokers tend to be unresponsive, which sort of eliminates the convenience of having a varied team. Furthermore, we’ve heard reports from their past clients that their brokers “ghosted” them.

This is, of course, on a case-to-case basis, but we thought that it’s still worth mentioning here for future potential clients.

Before creating this list, we were already familiar with True North Mortgage because they have several branches across Calgary. We’re glad we dug deeper though, as we found out that they’re among the top mortgage brokers in the country.

We say this because, for starters, they offer various unique and useful services that can help with paying mortgages. Personally, we know how paying mortgages can be a pain so having these kinds of services is much appreciated.

For example, one that stood out to us the most was their rate relief service. This service acts as a short-term relief by providing buyers with up to a full year of lower payments before they can get a chance to renew better rates for their mortgages.

Another thing that stood out to us from their offerings was the “No Commitment Mortgage”. If you know anything about mortgages, you’ll know that it’s always associated with commitment, as it’s paid in arrears.

With this offering, however, True North breaks the mould and allows homebuyers to transfer their mortgage to another lender without facing penalties.

If we were to nitpick something we didn’t like about this company though, it would be their lack of commercial mortgage services. 

We felt that this could throw off some people who want to avail of their offerings because of their team and convenience but can’t because they lack these services.

Nonetheless, if you have no intention of purchasing commercial properties, we can say that this broker should be more than enough for you.

Axiom Mortgage Solutions is a solid option if you’re looking for a more personalised experience. We’ve heard from our interviews with their past clients that their brokers were highly attentive, always having their best interests on their minds.

A personalised and hands-on type of brokerage is always a green flag in our books. It gives us the notion that they care instead of treating each client like just another paycheck.

Another thing we liked about this company is its solid selection of mortgage services like mortgage renewals, credit improvement, mortgage refinancing and more. 

They even offer new immigrant mortgages as long as they’ve lived in the country for five years or have a valid work permit. This mortgage allows these individuals to purchase their new home for as low as a 5% downpayment.

We also liked that they offered construction mortgages, as they cater to those who are ready to undertake the big leap of creating a custom-built property.

Another thing we appreciated was the free mortgage calculators and tools they provided on their website. Furthermore, they also have online pre-approval processes, which they claim can be done in just five minutes.

The only thing we didn’t like about this broker is its lack of commercial mortgage services. We felt that they could’ve catered to a broader audience by having these extra offerings, but nonetheless, they’re still one of the top options for residential mortgages.

During our research, we noticed a trend wherein most brokers are closed on weekends. This is why we were immediately interested in checking out Rock Solid Mortgages because we saw that they were available seven days a week!

Our curiosity grew more when we found out that the company only features a single broker on the team, Remi Korent. This can be seen as a quality-over-quantity thing though, as Korent has won numerous nods and awards throughout his career.

His 12+ years of experience may be young for some potential clients, but it’s still an impressive feat overall. Accolades aside, we’ve heard some good things about Korent, more specifically with how hands-on he is in the process of home buying. 

For instance, several of their past clients whom we interviewed stated how detailed Korent was in explaining the different mortgage products available. This gave us the impression that he really does care about the financial circumstances of his clients.

As for their services, they’re quite varied as well, featuring solutions for mortgage renewals, mortgage refinancing, commercial loans and more.

We also wanted to highlight just how fast and easy pre-approvals are with Rock Solid Mortgages. They claim that they could immediately tell a client how much they could loan after 15 minutes, and the best part is that the application is free!

Our only gripe with this company is that it only features a single broker on the team. As talented as we think Korent is with mortgage services, we felt that being a sole broker limits the company’s potential to cater to more clients.

We’ve also heard reports of unresponsiveness from Rock Solid Mortgages’ past clients whom we interviewed, and we think that this plays a huge part in it.

All in all, Rock Solid Mortgages is still worth checking out for its solid selection of services and all-week-long availability.
