We looked for a law firm in Edmonton that has a high level of experience, and we’re glad we found McCuaig Desrochers LLP! The firm was founded back in 1895!
That’s a long history and almost 130 years in the industry! That’s an impressive feat, isn’t it?
We were glad to have found that they provide many legal services. Aside from insurance law, you can also hire them for civil litigation, debtor and creditor law, and employment law.
In addition, we like the easy payment system. You can pay through the website, making it a quick process.
That’s a plus, considering they charge higher fees compared to other law firms in Edmonton. So, that’s something worth looking into.
Furthermore, we were impressed with the long list of lawyers. We shouldn’t have been surprised, though, because they have continued to expand their firm since it was established.
One of the lawyers we want to highlight here is Byron Baltimore, who was admitted to the bar in 1989! We admire his years of experience in the field of law.
Moreover, he specialises in insurance law. We consider his experience top-notch, considering he’s well-trained in judicial dispute resolution, mediation, and resolution.
So, if you want a lawyer to represent you, we think you’re in good hands with Baltimore. He has a tonne of experience in many aspects of insurance law, which is a big plus!
An area of improvement we believe they can make is customer service. Some people who inquired didn’t get a fast response, which was disappointing.

- Received an AV Preeminent rating
Cons
- Different service quality depending on lawyer
- Some issues regarding slow inquiry response
Another Edmonton law firm on our list with a hundred years of experience is Emery Jamieson LLP. It was founded in 1893 under the name Beck & Emery.
That’s 130 years in the business. We find it impressive that they have managed to keep the firm running for a long time and have served the city with any legal concerns.
Additionally, you can hire them for any kind of legal assistance. It’s due to their wide range of services, which is useful if you have other concerns.
Even their lawyer, W. Paul Sharek, K.C. has many years of experience. He was admitted to the bar in 1971, which is 50 years in the legal profession! Nice!
We also find it commendable that he was awarded King’s Counsel due to his many contributions. That’s an impressive feat because this recognition needs a high level of expertise in the industry.
Furthermore, he received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. This rating means his peers ranked him with high levels of skills!
But we’ve learned there is a downside to good things. Unfortunately, some people who inquired got a delayed response from the firm.
The slow response can add to the stress of going through legal matters, so we hope they can improve on this. Also, depending on the lawyer, there’s a different service quality because some weren’t completely satisfied with their experiences.

Pros

- Awarded King’s Counsel
- Recognized by Best Lawyers four times
- MacInnis specialises in insurance law
Cons
- Office closes early
- Minor complaints about customer service
Weir Bowen LLP specialises in civil litigation, which we appreciate. The reason is that you can expect lawyers with experience in legal disputes that involve compensation.
This expertise is essential in insurance litigation because some insurance companies pay less than what was on the policy. Thus, you can definitely need help from Weir Bowen lawyers because they often work on these cases.
We also like that their lawyers have represented clients from outside of Alberta. This experience impressed us because, in our opinion, it speaks highly about their knowledge and skills.
In this article, we want to highlight Elizabeth M. MacInnis, K.C. She was awarded King’s Counsel, which shows her skills and contributions to the legal profession.
Additionally, she was one of Weir Bowen’s founding partners. Honestly, we were impressed with how long she has been working at the firm!
It’s worth noting that Best Lawyers have recognized her skills for four years in a row! In fact, her work in insurance law earned her praise as well.
Moreover, one of her specialisations is in insurance defence. For us, this can benefit you because she has the right knowledge and skills in insurance matters.
On the downside, there were issues regarding customer service. Some didn’t appreciate the slow response, especially those needing a lawyer to represent them.
They also close their office earlier than other law firms in Edmonton. For us, that limits their availability.

With over 100 years of experience in the legal profession, Ogilvie LLP has definitely caught our eyes. That’s a lot of years in the industry, don’t you think?
One of the aspects we like is you can find a long list of lawyers to help you with your legal concerns. Many lawyers have their own specialisations, so you can hire them even if it’s not about insurance law.
In fact, they offer many services. They have also continued to expand since first opening their doors to Edmontonians.
Robert T. O’Neill, K.C. is the lawyer we want to highlight here. Don’t you think the King’s Counsel appointment is impressive?
Moreover, it means he has the right skills, knowledge, and contributions to his profession. Plus, it shows his level of experience in complex cases because he wouldn’t get appointed without being great at his job.
He also has a vast experience in civil litigation. If you’re seeking compensation and your insurance company denies your claim, we think you’ll be in good hands with O’Neill.
Additionally, we like his extensive experience in negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. He has been a partner at the firm since 1999, after all!
It was unfortunate to hear about complaints regarding the law fim’s customer service. Some clients were unhappy that they didn’t get constant updates, which we understand can be disappointing.
On the bright side, we’ve seen a significant improvement in their service. But do note that some received higher fees due to additional charges.

Pros
- Has a long history in Edmonton
- Has a huge team of lawyers
- Offers many services
- Recognized by Best Lawyers
- Tries to prevent long disputes
Cons
- Service quality depends on the lawyer
- Some issues about unresponsiveness
Duncan Craig’s history dates back to 1894. One of its founding partners even served as the City of Edmonton’s first mayor.
One of the things we like about this law firm is it has established a solid reputation in the city. Its current location is even close to its original office!
Plus, you can hire them for almost any legal help you need. They offer many services, which we appreciate because you can stick to one firm if you encounter other unfortunate situations.
We also love how there’s a huge team of lawyers available. That should be expected, though, since they have a long history in Edmonton.
One of the lawyers that made a definite impression on us is Joe D. Spelliscy. He specialises in insurance law and is a partner at the firm.
In addition, he was recognized by Best Lawyers for his work in *drum roll* insurance law! It definitely speaks about his high-quality service and work, huh?
That’s not surprising, though, since he has over 30 years of experience in the industry. Over the years, he’s even worked with many individuals and institutions.
We admire that he tries to prevent long, expensive disputes. So, we commend how he tries to find effective solutions to avoid these circumstances.
But we did notice that there were issues regarding other lawyers. The clients we talked with expected better service from them.
Also, we think it’s unprofessional that some people didn’t receive a response after inquiring. We hope they can improve on this since people wouldn’t be calling them if they didn’t need legal help.
