Halifax Makes Waves of Symphonies at Open Waters Festival This January 2025

Open Waters Festival, presented by Upstream Music Association, returns on January 8 to 12, 2025, in Downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Tune in to captivating symphonies and majestic melodies—from mainstream to new works—by talented local and international artists, including the Symphony Nova Scotia, New Music Ensemble, Many Worlds, and more!

You can also drop by for a discussion at Improv Talk-Back on Saturday at 1:00 PM, a pay-what-you-can show. At this event, Upstreams’ Artistic Director Lukas Pearse will play alongside five artists for a totally creative and improvised performance!

On January 8 at 10:00 PM, a free reception for musicians and patrons will take place at the Catherine Steele Atrium in Dalhousie University’s Fountain School of Performing Arts—mingle and meet the musicians!

Concerts are held at the Strug Concert Hall and The Stage at St. Andrew’s.

You can watch all the performers by purchasing a festival pass. If there’s a specific musical artist you only want to see, you can do that too!

Do note that individual ticket prices depend on the band. Upstream members save $5 on all tickets.
