Edmonton Kicks off 2025 with Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival this January

Edmonton welcomes the new year with its first festival, Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival, on January 18 and 19 (Saturday and Sunday).

Wear your puffiest coat and step outside in the chilly weather to celebrate and honour the Olde New Year, where traditions and art join forces for the winter! It puts the spotlight on the cultural vibrancy of the Alberta Avenue District.

At this frosty festival, all sorts of exciting, magical winter fun will happen—for all ages! Join us for snowshoeing, art installations, live performances, street hockey, ice sculptures, workshops, and snow races!

That’s not all! You can also taste delicious food on the street—candied nuts and maple taffy on snow, anyone? And you better save your loonies for shopping because it’s FREE to attend!

Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival starts at noon on both days, ending at 10:00 PM on Saturday and 6:00 PM on Sunday. Do stay all night on Saturday for fireworks, which start at 9:00 PM!

You can check out the website for the complete schedule and list of activities.
