How We Picked

Pricing – We chose cake delivery services in Calgary that offer reasonable rates and value for money based on the quality of cakes they offer.
Quality – Not only the cake needs to be visually appealing, but it must also be delicious so the customers can enjoy their purchase.

Pros

  • Specialises in cartoon style cakes
  • Has many designs and flavours available
  • Accommodates 3-day lead for online orders
  • Ingredients are listed online

Cons

  • No delivery for wedding cakes
  • Only uses buttercream icing

Cakeworks, a small local business, was founded in 1993. At first, they started with only five cakes a week, but now they have expanded to more than 200 cakes a week!

We appreciate the easiness of ordering through the website, phone, email, and in-person. In addition, there’s a vast online catalogue, so you can choose any design you want.

Another thing we appreciate is the three-day lead for online orders. It’s also good to know the team tries to accommodate last-minute requests.

But, you should know that placing your orders ahead of time is best because the bakers tend to get booked quickly.

We’re happy they have many flavour choices. However, they only use buttercream icing for all cakes, except for carrot cake, which has cream cheese.

Additionally, if you’re planning to have a coloured cake for your wedding, just be careful with the bride’s dress as it may stain from the food colouring. The wedding cake will have buttercream icing with fondant only for decorations if requested.

We think it’s worth highlighting that the ingredients for all cakes are listed on their website. We believe this is highly convenient for customers with allergies.

As for delivery, they can safely bring you the cake as long as you’re within Calgary. But do know that they no longer deliver wedding cakes, so you must pick them up at the store.

Finally, the clients we talked to loved the tasty cakes and detailed decoration. The bakers have a distinct cartoon style for hand-drawn characters, suitable for kids’ parties.

Pros

  • Bakes fresh cakes each morning
  • Has vegan and gluten-free options
  • Listed ingredients and nutritional information
  • Only 48-hour notice for standard cakes

Cons

  • No free delivery
  • Custom cakes must be booked months in advance

In 2004, Crave Cupcakes opened its doors in Kensington’s quaint and hip area. Its founders, Carolyne McIntyre Jackson and Jodi Willoughby, continue to share recipes passed down by their families.

We like that the team bakes fresh batches every morning to ensure freshness and quality. They also have many baked goods available in store.

Since they have three branches, they offer deliveries in three cities – Calgary, Edmonton, and Saskatoon. However, you should know they have delivery cut-offs, so make sure to order in time.

Additionally, there’s a required $23 minimum for delivery. There are also delivery fees for different areas in Calgary.

It’s worth mentioning that their delivery team was friendly and ensured the cake was safe. In addition, past clients said the cakes arrived within the promised timeframe.

We also like the 48-hour notice for ordering cakes, which is convenient for sudden occasions. The same timeframe applies for modifying or cancelling orders.

However, we still recommend ordering custom cakes months in advance. Currently, they are booked for custom cakes until 2023.

What’s more, they have vegan and gluten-free options. But know that their facility isn’t nut-free for those with allergies.

Further, they have listed ingredients and nutritional information for all cupcakes and cakes. We appreciate the added convenience for their customers.

Even so, we think you should check the sugar level before ordering since some clients mentioned the icing to be too sweet. But they liked the cake sponge for its moist texture and yummy flavour.

Pros

  • Specialises in unique cakes
  • Various flavours available
  • Offers out-of-town deliveries
  • Great attention to detail

Cons

  • Slightly higher prices
  • Minimum order requirements, depending on the season

Lynnette MacDonald, founder and head cake designer of SWIRL Custom Cakes & Desserts, has been creating unique cakes for over 20 years. Along with her team, they competed in the Food Network’s The Big Bake in 2020.

We first noticed their one-of-a-kind 3D cakes that can be a centrepiece at your party. MacDonald and her team can design simple round cakes and wine-shaped ones.

If you need to check their portfolio, their social media pages are constantly updated to give you an idea of their creativity.

Additionally, we think the attention to detail is superb since some of their cakes can look like the real thing. Many clients told us the designs exceeded their expectations.

Moreover, they offer a tonne of cake flavours and different icing and fillings. We found it interesting that they even have chili chocolate and beer flavours in the options.

We also like the option of having buttercream or fondant exterior. But remember that 3D cakes use fondant for a sturdy structure.

We should note that they require one to two-week notice for all orders except wedding cakes. So depending on the season, you must book wedding cakes months in advance to ensure you get a slot.

Aside from that, they require minimum orders depending on the time of the year. Therefore, we think contacting them regarding this is a good idea to prevent miscommunications.

As for the cake delivery, we’re glad they have the experience transporting tiered cakes. Clients received their cakes safely and right on time.

To add, they do out-of-town deliveries at an additional cost. If you have a four-tiered cake, they will assemble it on-site to ensure the decorations remain intact.

A drawback is they charge a tad higher and are a bit busy due to popularity. So if you’re planning a party, contact them ahead of time to secure a slot.

Pros

  • Short notice timeframe
  • Signature cupcakes with a unique crust
  • Facility is completely nut free
  • Donates unsold products to the foodbank

Cons

  • Vegan products are not stocked daily
  • Uses 3rd party delivery service

Since 2003, Cake Bake Shoppe has been serving Calgary residents with sugar cravings through cakes and cupcakes. It’s locally owned and operated and has been recognised by local publications.

They require a 48-hour notice on online orders. However, if you need your orders within 48 hours, you must contact them by phone, so they can try to accommodate you.

Their cakes have two kinds: classic and premium. We like that they offer various flavours for you to choose from.

But we would like to see an ingredient list for those with allergies or specific preferences.

Additionally, they bake their cupcakes with a unique crust, similar to a freshly baked muffin. Some clients who weren’t aware of this expected a soft cupcake, so just be mindful that they have a signature cupcake recipe.

We appreciate that they offer gluten-free and vegan products. Unfortunately, you must pre-order because these are not regular products.

On the other hand, their facility is completely nut free. So we like that customers with nut allergies can feel safe trying their products.

On the downside, they use a 3rd party delivery service. However, we think having their delivery team experienced in cake transportation is advantageous in the future.

Finally, we want to highlight that Cake Bake Shoppe makes fresh products daily. It’s also great to know that they donate all leftovers to the food bank.

Pros

  • Has vegan and gluten-free options
  • Wide variety of baked goods
  • Elegant cake designs
  • Great customer service

Cons

  • Minimum four weeks notice
  • All cakes are for pre-order only

Vicki Manness started Pretty Sweet in 2008, applying her own twist to her grandmother’s recipes. She finally leased a shop in 2016, which continues to be her storefront.

She makes aesthetically pleasing baked goods, from doughnuts to cakes. You can order online for delivery or pick-up.

Talking about their delivery service, the clients we spoke to received the cakes in good condition. Even with intricate designs, the cakes looked better than they expected.

We like the variety of cake designs, from classic to themed cakes. We’re also glad they have vegan and gluten-free options for customers with specific dietary needs.

Unfortunately, they need a minimum of four weeks’ notice for custom designs to check if they can make your request. They also don’t make fondant and novelty cakes.

You should also know they require a minimum of one week in advance for all online orders. So this might not be the best option if you quickly need a cake.

In addition to that, all cakes are strictly by order only. You won’t find readily available ones at their retail shop.

As for wedding cakes, despite not using fondant, we like the simple yet elegant design. They also make fancy doughnuts to serve your guests.

Moreover, many clients loved the visually attractive cakes despite the reasonable prices. Some even said they were Instagram-worthy.

In conclusion, buying a cake from Pretty Sweet may take up more waiting time which isn’t suitable for rushed events. But they make up for the excellent customer service and delicious cakes past clients recommended.

Pros

Cons

Kakes & Kanvas is a company that provides clients with a wide variety of delectable and highly personalized cake options whilst also enjoying the experience of painting at their very own venue where painting and baking collides.

Past clients that have experienced their services and ordering their products have commended them for their proactive communications and helpful personnel that has greatly aided in making the whole experience smooth and fun.

Aside from this, clients can readily describe and customize their desired cake order readily on their website for convenience and hassle-free processing, ordering, and delivery of said orders.

Note though that rates of their cake products aren’t readily available on their website to which interested clients may need to inquire for more information on the accurate breakdown of fees charged.

Nonetheless, with their excellent array of cake products, versatile and comprehensive transaction processes, and highly responsive and helpful customer service, we recommend interested clients looking for such products.

Pros

  • Persion tradition and Canadian style
  • Variety of sweets and pastries
  • Delicious cakes

Cons

  • Limited cake options
  • Limited information on website

Eclipse Bakery was founded in Calgary and this bakery combines Persion tradition and Canadian Style.

This bakery specializes in Sangak Bread, but they also have various pastries that they offer like cakes, cookies, and more.

Their cakes are delicious and beautifully decorated. We think it’s perfect for those days when you suddenly just want cake or if you want to send someone a cake for whatever occasion.

They have limited cake options compared to other shops but we don’t think that’s too much of a problem.

We find their cakes delicious and moist and we highly recommend them!
