Career By Coaching is a famous name not just in Vancouver but in all of Canada. It’s not hard to see why though, as they’re regarded as one of the best career counsellors in the country.

Upon researching further, one thing that stood out to us the most was their solid selection of career-boosting services. They weren’t only limited to resume writing, as they also provided branding, interview coaching, career counselling and more.

One of the highlights we’ve seen regarding their resume writing service was that they offer a free chat and a resume review with one of their team members. We thought that this was a great way for applicants to boost their confidence without breaking the bank.

We did feel, however, that their team is quite limited. Don’t get us wrong, their resume writers are skilful indeed, but having a small team like this can lead to them being fully booked, especially during peak times.

It is impressive how they can still make quick turnarounds when you do get partnered with one of their team members. We surveyed some of their past clients and they’ve stated that they got their first drafts as early as three days after their consultation.

Something that we found bothersome about this company was that its resume-writing service kind of takes the backseat. This is because Careers By Design is primarily a career coaching service.

Furthermore, we think that it would benefit potential clients if they posted some resume samples on their website. Plus, having samples would seem like something that all resume writing services have.

Flourish Career Consulting was one of our top prospects because of its solid selection of services, from resume writing to career coaching and more. Imagine our surprise when we found out that this company was run by a one-woman team, Vida Thompson!

Don’t be fooled into thinking that this is a disadvantage though, as she’s more capable than what we initially thought. During our research, we discovered that Thompson has decades of experience under her belt as an HR, making her a legitimate source.

We were more confident in her services when we found out that she is a certified Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR).

Shifting focus on her resume writing services, one thing we liked about it was that she offered a free resume review. We find that this feature is great for those who are undecided about whether they should or shouldn’t opt for her writing packages.

Aside from resume writing, we think that her other services are worth highlighting. For instance, she offers an interview prep program, where she helps applicants nail their upcoming job interviews.

Furthermore, she also offers career coaching programs for those who are struggling to figure out what the next step of their career is.

However, Flourish Career Consulting suffers from the same issues as most resume writing services in Vancouver, which is steep pricing. This can be a red flag, especially for those who are just starting out in the real world.

This problem is much more glaring when you consider that the cheapest resume writing package she offers costs 425 CAD. If you can look past this price point, however, you’re good to go on your new job.

Maple Road Consulting is also a great option that features an equally amazing team behind it. More specifically, their duo of Gabriela Bevilacqua, a certified human resource professional and Christopher Castelino, a certified resume writer.

These certifications immediately made us think that Maple Road Consulting is one of the most qualified companies in the market. Fortunately, we took a closer look and it’s safe to say, we weren’t wrong.

For starters, their resume writing service follows a more personalised approach. They’re able to do this by listening closely to their clients and familiarising themselves with their career goals, skills and highlights.

We felt that having this kind of connection helps in creating a strong resume because it prevents the draft from becoming stale and common. Speaking of drafts, the one that the client chooses will then be optimised to get a better chance of passing a screening.

Another thing we appreciate about Maple Road Consulting is its cover letter and LinkedIn profile writing. These two things are often overlooked so having these services can help elevate the applicant’s chances of getting hired.

One of the biggest downsides with this service is that they’re closed on weekends, which we can see being a burden to some potential clients. Furthermore, we noticed that their price range is a bit too steep compared to the average rate in Vancouver.
