Mathnasium of SW Winnipeg is located at Sterling Lyon Parkway. We definitely like their accessible area—it has a good number of shops for waiting parents!

We think their availability is pretty good, too. They are open six days a week, except on Fridays.

However, there’s only one location in Winnipeg currently. We think this limits them a bit, especially for families who live on the other side of town.

For students who can’t visit the Mathnasium centre regularly, we appreciate that they could opt for online sessions! We commend the flexibility, which is especially beneficial for busy parents.

As for their math tutoring approach, we found that they use the Mathnasium Method. It was developed and refined for over 40 years and works for all ages and skill levels!

How does it work? Well, it starts with a skill assessment for a custom teaching plan. Then, they use visual and written techniques to help students learn—along with easy-to-understand language!

In our opinion, their approach helps students engage throughout the tutoring. Plus, we admire them for letting students earn rewards to keep them motivated.

In fact, around 96% of parents reported an improvement in their kids’ math skills! That shows the Mathnasium effectivity, no?

We also noted that their math tutoring services are extensive and flexible. They welcome beginners and advanced math learners, which is helpful because even high school students can sign up. 

Besides weekly math sessions, they offer test preparation, homework help, and summer programs. Don’t you like their variety of math assistance?

Another thing we appreciate is the Mathnasium instructors. They’re experts in advanced math, so we know they’re well-qualified to teach!

In addition, each instructor has been background-checked. For us, that’s essential to ensuring parents feel at ease while their kids are learning math.

All in all, we like Mathnasium for their effective and hands-on approach. But the fees are expensive compared to others in the area—it’s around $250 to $400 a month! 

From our research, we noted that Math4Me’s focus is helping elementary, middle, and high school students improve their grades. We appreciate that they offer a variety of subjects for any student!

They have their own Math4Me method, an approach that relies on the student’s school grades and tests. We like that they follow the Ministry of Education’s curriculum, so kids can easily adjust to the sessions.

But what we really like is their customized learning approach. For us, students can learn at their own pace, which we believe can help build confidence.

In addition, we appreciate that they provide a custom-tailored program for the learners. Each student has a diverse learning style, so we want to highlight this. 

Aside from math tutoring, we like their other programs, too. They offer homework help and test preparation.

Apart from those factors, their reasonable rates thrilled us! Their fees start at $15 to $25 per hour—lower than other math tutoring services in Winnipeg!

Not only that, we also like the flexibility because there’s no need for long-term contracts! Families with busy schedules or limited budgets can take advantage of this.

But not all Math4Me locations are open on weekends—some are closed on Saturdays. The upside is they have multiple locations in Winnipeg!

And speaking of flexibility, Math4ME offers virtual math tutoring sessions. They also don’t have a strict schedule but work around the student’s extracurricular commitments!

Kumon is definitely a highly accessible math tutoring centre in Winnipeg. There are many branches, which means you can easily find one near your area!

Although there are different operating hours per branch, many are open on Saturdays. That’s useful and caters to the learner’s school and extracurricular schedule!

Plus, Kumon offers virtual classes—useful for scheduling flexibility! The downside is not all centres offer this.

They also accept kids as young as three up to high school—basically, any student who needs help in math!

One of the things we like about Kumon is how long they’ve been around. There are many branches all over the world, with over 300 in Canada alone!

The Kumon method started in Japan in 1954. Throughout the years, millions of students have been taught! Impressed yet?

In addition, learners will need to answer Kumon worksheets for step-by-step advancement. Each worksheet is an upgrade, ensuring the student will grasp the lesson.

While the fixed worksheets don’t allow for customized learning, many students prefer the repeated learning approach. They’ve been around for a long time, after all!

Another positive aspect about this method is that it encourages self-learning skills and independence. Kumon worksheets are also made for learning development, which is notable!

As for the rates, Kumon will have varying prices depending on the location—some areas are a lot cheaper—but we were surprised that they have high upfront fees. For the first month, there’s an enrollment and materials fee on top of the monthly tuition.

Lastly, we were disappointed upon hearing some complaints about delays and no responses. Fortunately, the Kumon staff takes action to address these concerns when they are raised.

TutorBright has many branches across Canada, making them highly accessible to many students. However, they only have one Winnipeg location, which is a slight drawback.

The upside? They’re open for math tutoring any day of the week!

But what piqued our interest was the recognition they earned in over 15 years. City Parent magazine voted TutorBright as the Best Tutoring Service five times!

They were also featured on TV by Citytv and Breakfast Television. For us, that speaks about their math tutoring skills!

As for their services, we like the variety! They have tutoring programs for all ages—including adults!

Furthermore, these services include homework help, early skills, high school math, special education, and adult education. That’s a lot of choices for different learners, no?

One of our favourites is their high school math program, which is pretty extensive. They offer data management, calculus, trigonometry, graphing, and more!

How do they teach advanced math, you say? Impressively, their tutors are highly skilled (and background-checked!), with some having a master’s degree.

What’s more, they provide a customized learning plan and match the student with the tutor. In our opinion, the hands-on approach adds to a more relaxing teaching environment.

Lastly, TutorBright’s flexibility is worth emphasizing. They have a secure virtual platform, and we like that they use special technology to help tutors and students interact better. 

If you’re looking for a tutoring service that focuses entirely on math, we think Grant’s Tutoring is worth checking out. He specializes in mathematics, statistics, linear algebra, and calculus!

His focus is tutoring high school and university students. If you have a young child, you may need to look for a different math tutor in Winnipeg.

Grant’s Tutoring is a one-man team. His extensive knowledge is worth highlighting—he has over 30 years of tutoring experience!

So, aside from math tutoring services, what else does he offer? He’s available for homework help and exam preparation seminars!

We like his hands-on approach, ensuring the student fully understands the lesson. He provides studying tips, too! Helpful, eh?

Plus, Grant provides all his students with a study book and video and audio lectures. We find these resources helpful for reviewing lessons when needed. 

What we like about his tutoring book is that he explains the lesson in plain language. It ensures his students can easily understand even complex math problems.

One more thing we like is that he offers both one-on-one and group tutoring. It’s useful for schoolmates who need mathematics help!

Additionally, all his tutoring services are available online. The downside of that is he doesn’t offer in-person math sessions.

We also find it iffy that he’s not available for weekend appointments. But we admire him for occasionally helping his students via online messaging if they’re stuck on homework—for free!

Overall, we like Grant’s Tutoring despite his limitations in availability. His competitive rates make up for it, though!
