General admission is free, but food sampling requires tickets. If you want to save money, purchase during the pre-sale.

Celebrate the Edmonton art community at Whyte Avenue Art Walk. It’s time for art enthusiasts to explore the streets of Old Strathcona and discover over 400 artists as they share their works.

Every July, artists line the streets for three days to show their artwork. This outdoor event is a great way to discover emerging artists—maybe some of them you’ve been following on Instagram for years!

Guests are welcome to purchase artwork to support the local community. You will find different styles and themes from professionals and amateurs lined up on the streets.

Pro Tips:

Check the weather app and wear appropriate clothing. This is an outdoor event that will push through rain or shine.

Edmonton Heritage Festival

Held annually, the Edmonton Heritage Festival is the largest three-day multiculturalism celebration in the world. You can watch performances, listen to music, and taste delicious meals from different cultures.

You’ll discover new cuisines, so don’t come to this event with a full stomach because you’ll be eating a lot. You can sample dishes from all over the world, such as Latin American, Asian, Middle Eastern, and European cuisines!

Since you’ll be eating most of the time at this festival, bring water bottles and napkins. You can also bring an insulated bag or containers for extra food you might want to take home! Oh, and check the map so you know where each country’s cuisines are located.

Don’t miss out on appreciating the cultural exhibits and watching the performances. It’s the perfect way to learn and expose yourself and your family to different cultures—you 

can even take part in the festivities!

Bring a debit or credit card since this year, there won’t be food tickets anymore. Instead, you’ll pay the vendors directly.

Alberta on the Plate

Various restaurants will showcase their delicious meals for a fixed price. This is an excellent time to try out new meals and explore new eateries in the city.

If you’re up for a drive, you can visit other cities and try out their menu. It’s also the perfect excuse for a weekend getaway with your family, no?

Now in its 40th year, the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival celebrates at Churchill Square. This 10-day festival will mesmerize you with incredible, funny, and daring performances!

Get ready to watch fearless local, national, and international talents perform death-defying stunts that are sure to dazzle you! Not all acts are risky, though. You can also check out comedy and musical performances!

There are workshops you can join in as well. There’s even a kids’ world section for some mini obstacles to keep the little ones entertained.

Don’t miss visiting the food trucks that sponsor the StreetFest. Get some refreshing drinks or delicious meals to keep you energized under the heat!

Pro Tips:

Keep yourself safe and hydrated at this outdoor festival. Bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen and a hat.

If you can, stick to public transportation. Parking in the downtown area will be tough and you may not get a slot near the venue.

Animethon

Otakus in Edmonton gather every year for Animethon, the longest-running anime convention in Canada. Since 1994, it has provided a safe space for anime lovers to come together and celebrate their love for Asian entertainment.

One of the highlights is the meet and greet, where you’ll see famous actors, singers, voice actors, VTubers, and cosplayers. If you’re lucky, you can even join an autograph session with your favourite artist!

Step into the Maid and Butler Café for a captivating experience, where the dressed-up servers will dazzle you with incredible performances, let you join interactive games, and serve you the most delicious Japanese food.

Don’t forget to visit the Exhibition Hall to check out the vendors, see the Gunpla displays and demos, and join the cosplay contest!

Rubaboo Arts Festival

Rubaboo is a word from the Métis-Michif language that means a rich stew filled with all good things. True enough, this summer festival is all about feeding the soul with art.

In 2024, the Rubaboo Arts Festival celebrated its 15th anniversary. It showcases Indigenous theatre and performing arts through live performances and storytelling—there’s music, dance, plays, workshops, and panels.

A talented lineup will entice you with their engaging and powerful performances that tell stories. It’s all about appreciating Indigenous artists, which makes this a must-visit in Edmonton!

Pro Tip:

The Rubaboo Pass offers the best value for money if you plan on catching each show. You get it for a cheaper price but has a $135 value.

Don’t miss the outstanding performances of SuperDogs, where a spectacular lineup of furry performers will dazzle you.
