Pros
- Has 23 years of experience
- Volunteer executive director
- Does volunteer work in Central America
- Train-themed playrooms
- Multilingual staff
- Roadside parking
Cons
- Doesn’t accept emergency cases
- No dedicated PWD parking space
Dr. J Bradley Krusky is the head dentist of Chew Chew Pediatric Dentistry. He has been a kids’ dentist for over 23 years since completing his residency at the University of Michigan in 1999.
Aside from his medical work, Dr. Krusky was also the director of operations for a volunteer group named Dentistry For All (DFA) for three years. The DFA extends its help and services to underprivileged children of Nicaragua and Guatemala.
It is delightful to know that Dr. Krusky’s heart for children extends locally and internationally.
One of Dr. Krusky’s clients, who had a son with severe dental decay, shared that he was thankful to the doctor. He was the only one who accommodated and treated his child, as most dentists they visited rejected the child because of his autism.
Patients planning to visit can conveniently stop in front of the clinic since they have a roadside parking lot. However, there is no trace of a designated PWD parking space there.
Kids of all ages would love the Chew Chew clinic since they have two train-themed playrooms. Parents would also be relaxed while waiting as they have a spacious and well-lit waiting room.
We also found that his clinic staff is multilingual, collectively speaking more than eight languages including Spanish, Cantonese, and Farsi. They make a great option for non-English speakers.
Although the clinic offers various dental treatments, from basic (cleanings or diagnosis) to intensive (tooth extractions), they don’t accept emergency cases. Patients who need immediate attendance may consider other kids’ dentists or head to the nearest Emergency Room.

Pros
- Almost 10 years of experience
- Trained in craniofacial surgery
- Works with Alberta Health Services
- Clinic has roadside parking
- Has their own mascot and demo toys
- Open until Saturdays
Cons
- No playroom for kids
- No PWD parking space
After working at five dental clinics, Dr. Don He established the Children’s Dental Health Centre in 2018. Dr. He has a degree in craniofacial science, which means he can treat kids with cleft lip/palette.
Aside from his private practice, Dr. He also works at the Alberta Health Services as a kids’ dentist. Before that, he worked at five different dental and medical institutions in Calgary.
One of the parents who had his seven-year-old child in for cleaning was happy at how Dr. He made them comfortable. The parent even recalled how the doctor encouraged chats, making his son laugh and relaxed during the procedure.
Patients planning to visit Dr. He’s clinic can leave their vehicles at the roadside parking nearby. But, we regret to say there are no PWD parking spaces in proximity.
The clinic has no playroom for children, although the waiting area is spacious and colourful. But, we are happy to know that they have a blue mascot named Boo and demo toys that kids can play with while waiting.
We discovered as well that the clinic extends its services until Saturdays, allowing them to take on extra patients and providing parents the option to bring their kids on a weekend.

Pros
- More than 20 years of experience
- Specialises in dental trauma
- Active in research and education
- Has both roadside and own parking lot
- Forest- and animal-themed clinic
- Has several waiting rooms for kids
- Accepts dental emergencies
Cons
- PWD parking space is quite far
- No play items or toys
For over 20 years, Dr. Sarah Hulland has handled patients on various parts of the spectrum – from children with compromised medical conditions, delayed mental development, and autism.
She received her specialisation in treating dental trauma and other complex oral conditions from her residency training at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Hulland is an avid contributor and supporter of research and education in dentistry. Aside from teaching dental trauma management at the University of Alberta, she has also led seminars and published academic papers.
Parents who visited Dr. Hulland praised her for being hands-on and patient with children. One parent recalled that her kid with special needs was not scared of visiting the dentist anymore, thanks to Dr. Hulland’s great bedside manners.
Parking at Dr. Hulland’s clinic, the ABC Pediatric Dentistry, is convenient since it has both a roadside and parking lot for patients. Although there is a PWD parking spot, we wish it was not that far from the clinic.
There is no doubt that kids will love the forest- and animal-inspired theme of the clinic. Kids will love its many animal statues including a bear, raccoons, and birds – oh, and watch out for the squirrel on the ceiling!
It’s a shame that the clinic does not have any toys that kids can play with. But no biggie – children and parents can standby in several waiting rooms while playing with the touchpads.
On the other hand, we are glad that the clinic accepts and prioritises paediatric dental emergencies. Kids that need treatment ASAP would be in good hands.
4. Dr. Amin Salmasi – Smile Buddy Children’s Dentistry

Pros
- Eight years of paediatric dentistry experience
- Specialises in craniofacial sciences
- Worked as a clinical instructor
- Participated in international dental missions
- Has a movie-dome playroom
- Accepts emergency cases
- Nearby parking area
Cons
- No designated PWD parking space
- Clinic is relatively young
Dr. Amin Salmasi has more than eight years of paediatric dentistry experience since he finished his master’s at The University of British Columbia (UBC). It is where he also got his training and specialisation in craniofacial sciences.
Before moving to a dentistry practice, Dr. Salmasi worked as a clinical instructor at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry of UBC.
During this period, he also participated in international dental missions in Cambodia and Guatemala, adhering to his philosophy that every child should have accessible dental care.
After working as paediatric dentist at the Chew Chew Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Salmasi decided to run his own kids’ dental clinic. He is now the owner of Smile Buddy Children’s Dentistry.
According to previous patients, Dr. Salmasi and his staff are very patient and entertaining to kids with special needs.
A parent of a child with ADHD was glad the doctor let them “play” with the dental chair and other equipment, so they would be less nervous during the procedure.
The roadside parking area is near the clinic, which is very convenient for visiting patients. But, there are no PWD parking spaces in the vicinity.
We think kids will love the clinic’s cartoon-inspired interiors, as well as the two colourful playrooms that would greet them. One of the playrooms is unique since it is a movie-dome space where kids can watch movies in 3D.
The clinic also accepts cases of dental emergencies, which is great for kids experience pain due to trauma or infection.
But compared to other clinics, Smile Buddy Dentistry is relatively young (only three years old). Some parents may find this reason for pause, but it seems that Dr. Salmasi’s magic touch will go a long way in convincing them to give him a try.
5. Dr. Prabhdeep Chahal – The Smile Team Pediatric Dentistry

Pros
- Has 13 years of dental experience
- Certified in Canada and the US
- President of a medical association
- Has toys and a viewing room for kids
- Clinic offers new minimally-invasive dentistry
- Huge parking space
Cons
- Parking lot is usually full
- Rare reports of poor operations management by staff
Backed with 13 years of dental experience, Dr. Prabhdeep Chahal offers her expertise to families in Calgary at The Smile Team Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Chahal is a certified kids’ dentist in both Canada and the US.
Aside from working as a kids’ dentist, Dr. Chahal also serves as the president of the Calgary and District Gnathology Study Club. Patients experiencing jaw problems will be in great hands if they visit her.
Dr. Chahal’s patients praised her for her gentle way with children, especially infants. A parent of a one-year-old who hates having their teeth checked recalled that the doctor did the whole cleaning smoothly and without a challenge.
Families planning to visit her other clinic at Crowfoot West Business Centre can enjoy their spacious parking lot and PWD spaces. But, we advise against going at peak hours to avoid competing with customers from other businesses at the centre for a slot.
We are glad to find that in addition to the multiple viewing screens in the operating room, kids can also enjoy their time in the movie viewing room while waiting for their turn.
Their clinic also offers minimally-invasive dentistry, wherein they slow the pace of cavity progression sans the usage of a dental drill. It is a perfect option for parents and kids who want a friendlier alternative to a surgical procedure.
However, we found reports of patients complaining about subpar staff operations, resulting in some disarray in appointment schedules and unanswered post-op queries.
Although rare, these cases usually happen when they have high volumes of patients.
