What we like most about Cut Above Carpentry & General Contracting is that they have a wide variety of services. You can rely on them for outdoor living spaces, home additions and renovations, custom carpentry, exterior construction, structural work, and general contracting. 

That said, they have a knack for doing custom and specialty projects—think cabinetry, outdoor kitchens, feature walls, stair installations, and even wine cellar installations. This means you can tackle many things under one contractor, especially for those who plan on renovating. 

It’s also worth noting that they promote integrating sustainable materials and energy-efficient solutions wherever possible, particularly for clients concerned about environmental impact, and those who want to keep their energy bills as low as possible. 

Just note that they’re closed on Sundays, so if you want to monitor how they work and you only have weekends free, then plan accordingly. 

Nonetheless, we can’t deny that Cut Above Carpentry & General Contracting is a solid team for handling small projects to large renovations.

We noticed that SpringVan Carpentry and Construction focuses on larger projects like deck solutions: building new decks, renovating existing ones, and more. They work with diverse materials, such as composite, vinyl, and cedar, giving clients many options.

Beyond decks, we like that they specialize in foundational work like framing and formwork, which means they support the structure, not just superficial finishes.

On that note, you can also reach out to them if you want new stairs for a deck, entrance, garden, or more. Plus, they even offer both interior and exterior trim work with impressive attention to detail. You won’t be seeing messy edges, joints, and that rough feeling around doors or windows. 

Here’s the thing, though: they don’t focus on custom furniture, so you’ll have to look elsewhere if you’re after this. 

Still, we have to give them props for their quick turnaround times on almost every project. The clients we talked to also shared how they benefited from having their projects completed as scheduled.

One of Custom Vancouver Carpentry’s fortes is working on structural framing, foundation forming, additions, laneway homes, garages, and more. 

We also love that after the form and frame, they offer full finishing solutions, such as installing flooring, trim, doors, and windows. Having the same company for finishing helps with consistency in style, fit, and project flow. 

Speaking of project flow, many homeowners and clients praised how efficiently the crew worked; how they moved along quicker than expected, and always came on time. Their efficiency has been a lifesaver for many clients, especially those with tight schedules. 

On the flipside, they don’t explicitly offer specialized custom furniture, intricate cabinetry, or decorative millwork, which might be a deal-breaker for some. 

But hey, we’re impressed at their capacity to work on large-scale projects like auditions, new roofs, floors, and complex framing without missing a beat.

We’re impressed that North Shore Custom Carpentry and Renovations (NSCCR) easily navigates when it comes to fixing, upgrading, and restoring existing structures. You don’t need to start from scratch, especially if you need things like updating old windows or repairing walls.

Another thing worth highlighting is that they do feature or accent walls, stair skirts, and other custom carpentry that add aesthetic value beyond just function. This is great if you have a specific vision for your home or project. 

It’s also neat (and less expensive) that they’re open to accepting small projects, like minor repairs or small carpentry tasks. For instance, they even work on kids’ toys or playgrounds, which is a testament to their variety and experience. 

The drawback? They do not specialize in heavy structural framing for large new construction or large-scale architectural builds. 

On the upside, they do offer 24-hour emergency services, which can come in handy if a sudden problem needs fixing, like doors or windows getting damaged.
