Pros

  • Has a large and diverse team
  • Efficient with drafts and documents
  • Fluent in nine languages
  • Online booking is available

Cons

  • Slightly pricier than other firms

Carscallen LLP has been offering legal counsel and representation for over 34 years.

What we like most about them is the range of their services, from bankruptcy to family law and indigenous to cannabis law. They’re a one-stop shop for general law services.

To keep up with their long list of legal services, we think it’s good that they have a large team of diverse lawyers to accommodate these efficiently.

We also figure their bankruptcy services are of high quality, given that two partners — Grant Cameron and Nicholas Ramessar — handle bankruptcy cases.

That said, we also heard previous clients of the partners say that they were able to expertly and patiently deal with complex cases like forced sales.

On top of that, they’re known to be very responsive, regardless of the regular business hours, which we appreciate.

On the downside, they may be slightly pricier, particularly with bankruptcy cases, since they are firm partners. But, most clients beg to differ and say that the rates are reasonable considering their excellent work.

Finally, we are impressed with their time management and efficiency. We noted multiple client testimonials that are highly satisfied with the fast processing and drafting time of documents and paperwork.

Pros

  • Has a client portal
  • Provides well-crafted plans and documents
  • Highly responsive
  • Excellent with litigation cases

Cons

  • Has a small team
  • Limited to commercial bankruptcy cases

Baker Law Firm specializes in giving tailored legal advice, personalized service, and practical solutions that address the legal concerns of its clients.

We like that the firm acts for creditors and debtors when faced with current or pending insolvency. Some concerns include commercial bankruptcy, asset realization, or director liability contact.

Another thing that impressed us is their excellent track record in winning litigation cases.

We also noticed that they provide well-crafted plans and documents for their clients, even if it’s a simple waiver or an extensive contract.

For instance, a client conveniently got the upper hand in a case thanks to the polished demand letters shown during their negotiations.

Unfortunately, the firm has a small team with only one lawyer, Roger Baker. But we have to give it to Baker for having an impressive background, such as appearing in the Court of Queen’s Bench and the superior courts of British Columbia.

We are also disappointed that they only accept commercial bankruptcy cases and don’t advise individuals facing a stand-alone personal bankruptcy.

Regardless, we commend their highly responsive nature, like keeping clients up to date on the progress of their case, and can even provide urgent paperwork within 24 hours after the request.

Pros

  • Experienced team of lawyers
  • Wins against bigger corporations

Cons

  • Some reports of unresponsiveness
  • Has a small team

With over 35 years of experience, Llewellyn Law has continuously served Calgarians with their legal concerns. Some areas of law they provide are bankruptcy and insolvency, litigation, business and corporate law, and immigration law.

Notably, they have an impressive team of lawyers, considering everyone has at least a decade of legal experience.

We also believe that well-experienced lawyers have an edge, especially in dealing with the trends in court or getting key points from similar cases.

However, we think it’s a shame that they only have three lawyers, which may cause some issues given the long list of services they offer.

That said, we noticed that they tend to limit their clients since they cannot accommodate all of them at once.

In addition, we heard reports regarding their unresponsiveness. Many have complained that they never received a response from Llewellyn Law, especially those who want a retainer lawyer or an initial consultation.

On the bright side, we are impressed with their competency in the court, particularly when up against big corporations. For instance, they won a case representing a private individual against a big company in Canada.

Overall, we think Llewellyn Law is a solid choice if you’re looking for a bankruptcy lawyer — but look out for their availability!

Pros

  • Has a large team of lawyers
  • Offers no-obligation consultation
  • Provides documents promptly

Cons

  • Has overcharging complaints
  • Limited bankruptcy services for private individuals

McLeod Law LLP offers legal services and counsel for personal and business law cases. They also handle bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring concerns.

What we like most about them is that they have three lawyers for bankruptcy which is already a lot compared to the ones on this list.

On top of that, two out of three are partners, and we think their seniority in the field plays a crucial role in a successful case.

It’s also noteworthy that they have a large team of lawyers. Thus, if they need additional resources, they can efficiently leverage the knowledge of lawyers in McLeod Law’s other practice groups.

Fortunately, clients can book a no-obligation consultation to discuss what the firm can do and if they fit their needs and budget. We also suggest clients ask for the risks for every option they recommend.

On the downside, we are bummed to know that McLeod Law mainly provides bankruptcy services to their business clients or those that involve businesses.

But we can’t deny that they’re good at what they do.

One notable event was when they persuaded the court to allow the seizure of assets without an appointed receiver. This outcome saved the client from months of delay, substantive costs, and deal risks to third-party transactions it was pursuing.
