Pros
- Open since 1977
- Has a showroom
- Accepts small or large jobs
- Wide range of colours and designs
Cons
- Long wait time for estimates
- Closed on weekends
In 1977, Florkowskys’ Woodworking & Cabinets started to provide services to Edmonton residents. It has continued to expand over the years and now has a showroom to display new products.
It specialises in many types of projects, from simple cabinetry to new home furniture. We appreciate this because you can request any piece of furniture you need in your home to fit your lifestyle.
It’s also quite convenient that they have a showroom. There, you can inspect their works personally and bring home colour samples for convenience.
Additionally, there’s a tonne of colours and designs to choose from. We highly suggest visiting the showroom to give you a better idea of what will fit the style of your home.
Speaking of their works, we love their attention to detail. We find them perfect for new home builds or renovations because of the freedom to customise any furniture you want.
We want to highlight the custom drawers you can modify for additional inserts or hidden areas, which are great for concealing unsightly trash bins in your kitchen.
What’s more, we admire the consistency in their work from designing to finishing. Because of this, your cabinets will have a streamlined look.
Everything sounds great, but it’ll take a while before you get a response for estimates, possibly a few weeks. It’s because they get a high volume of small and large orders.
Lastly, Florkowskys is closed on weekends. So, you may need a day off if you want to visit their showroom.

Pros
- Over 30 years of experience
- AWMAC member
- Services residential and commercial clients
- Offers unique styles to each client
Cons
- Closes early
- By appointment basis only
Pro Spec Woodwork has been in the industry for more than 30 years. It provides residential and commercial services to all of Edmonton.
It’s a member of the Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC). This entails that all projects have met quality standards from manufacturing to installation.
We admire that each project the company takes is custom-made. They don’t assemble using stock works, so each one is unique for every client.
Now, the artisans can make any designs to fit your home, from traditional to contemporary. What’s great about this is you can ask for any style that will suit your home’s interior.
Additionally, they can make any furniture that you can dream of. We especially like the wine cellar for wine connoisseurs.
Moreover, they can handle big commercial projects, from churches to corporate offices. We appreciate the team’s flexibility in different types of millwork and cabinetry.
We admire their elegant designs with great attention to detail. We also appreciate that they have a portfolio online for those who can’t visit their workshop.
Further, we admire the wide range of unique styles for each client, whether it’s for your home or business.
But if you can, make sure to get a confirmed schedule first. They only allow workshop visits on an appointment-only basis.
Also, they’re open by appointment on Saturdays, so you may need to book early to get a schedule.
Lastly, Pro Spec closes early on weekdays. Unfortunately, you need to get off work earlier than usual to make it in time to visit the workshop.

Pros
- Uses only local supplies and materials
- Specialises in wood and metalwork
- Creative and elegant designs
- Offers ready-made furniture
Cons
- Can only do small projects
- A few cases of incorrect measurements
Iron Hide Woodworks first opened its doors in 2015 from Brad and Jennifer Neilson’s passion for woodworking projects. As a small family business, they ensure that each piece of furniture has great quality and will fit your lifestyle.
We admire that Iron Hide is a local business supporting the community by sourcing Canadian materials and supplies. We think many Edmontonians will appreciate fully locally-made furniture in their homes.
Despite being a small business, they can make almost any type of furniture, from tables to mudrooms. Although, they can only do small projects.
Also, there were a few cases of incorrect measurements, but the team showed professionalism by addressing the concerns immediately.
No worries, though, because it doesn’t happen often, and we’ve seen a significant improvement since then.
Not only that, but they also specialise in metalwork. What we like about this is you can incorporate it into wood pieces for more design varieties.
In addition, their designs are refined, which we think can add elegance to your home. Besides that, the metal and wood combination gives a sophisticated look.
But if you prefer ready-made furniture, they have some on sale. Just don’t expect a big selection because they focus on custom works.
Finally, we admire the Iron Hide team’s creativity. Upon checking their portfolio, we were impressed to see that they can work on any style and combination that’ll suit your home.

Pros
- Specialises in rustic styles
- Offers ready-made furniture
- Quick turnaround time
- Provides warranty
- Uses reclaimed Douglas fir
Cons
- Limited stain colour selection
- Not equipped for big projects
- Closed on weekends
Railway Custom Woodworking is a local business that started unexpectedly when the co-founder sold furniture he made that was meant for his kitchen.
Since then, he has expanded his talent and passion by establishing a company with his son. Now, they make sure to handle each project to ensure quality work.
Aside from custom works, they also have ready-made furniture. You can find one-of-a-kind items and some that offer multiple uses.
As for finishing, we like that they offer a variety of stain colours from Varathane. Although they offer standard options, we’re a bit sad you must pay additional for colours outside their selection.
On a good note, they have a warranty for board cracking and warping. We like this offer for your peace of mind in case of issues.
They use mostly reclaimed Douglas fir, mostly known for its strength and durability. Due to the high-quality material, we believe your furniture will last very long.
Furthermore, we like their attention to detail. Each piece of wood furniture has great craftsmanship, which many clients appreciate.
Another positive thing is they have a quick turnaround time. However, the team isn’t equipped for bigger projects.
Finally, we like the consistency in the designs of Railway Custom Woodworking. This may be a good option to look into if you prefer rustic designs.

Pros
- Only uses Canadian wood
- Specialises in live edge furniture
- Makes epoxy tables
- Sells ready-made furniture
- Unique designs
Cons
- Limited selection of furniture
- Cannot take on bigger projects
Spirit Wood Designs encourages minimising carbon footprint by using only Canadian wood in its products. The company manufactures individual furniture for Edmonton and other Albertan cities.
We appreciate that the team uses plant-based finishes, which are eco-friendly. Also, they make live edge furniture that offers a natural style for your home.
Moreover, live edge style retains the natural borders of the tree. We admire the natural look because you can still see the tree’s beauty and maintain the traditionality.
Additionally, we like their epoxy river tables. Each work will be unique by merging two wood pieces with an epoxy.
Besides that, they add rocks, shells, sand, or colours to add character to your already one-of-a-kind piece. We highly appreciate the level of customisation for you to enjoy.
Furthermore, the team at Spirit Wood Designs work with metalsmiths if you prefer metal legs for your furniture. With the freedom you get, you can get the perfect one that’ll suit your taste.
Unfortunately, they have a limited selection of furniture types. Also, they can’t quite take on bigger projects.
On the positive side, they offer a warranty for faulty materials and poor workmanship. But note that you need to pack and ship the furniture when sending it back to the production facility.
Lastly, we recommend occasionally checking their online pages for ready-made furniture. Since live edge woodwork in Edmonton tends to be pricier, you wouldn’t want to miss their occasional promotions.
