Top Tattoo Shops in Vancouver: Best Studios for Custom Ink

Artistic Diversity: We looked heavily at the variety of styles each studio offers. A great shop needs artists who handle everything from delicate fine lines to heavy traditional work.

Hygiene and Safety: Cleanliness remains completely non-negotiable for any body modification process. We verified that every studio exceeds local health board standards and maintains a pristine environment.

Client Comfort: Getting inked causes anxiety, so the overall atmosphere really matters. We prioritized shops that actively try to reduce stress and create a highly inclusive space.

Booking Transparency: Nobody likes hidden fees or confusing scheduling processes. We selected studios that communicate clearly about their rates, deposit policies, and expected wait times.

Getting a new piece of art permanently etched into your skin is a massive commitment. You want an artist who truly understands your vision and a studio where you feel entirely comfortable.

Finding the top tattoo shops in Vancouver means looking past the flash art on the walls. You need a place with a stable history, incredibly talented artists, and a transparent booking process.

I know firsthand how overwhelming the search feels, especially with so many incredible creators scattered across the city. Let me walk you through my absolute favorite studios. I’ll help you find the perfect match for your next custom design.

Stepping into an award-winning studio immediately sets a different tone for your appointment.

As the largest shop in Burnaby, they boast an incredibly diverse, international team of artists. These creators genuinely listen to your ideas instead of pushing standard designs.

I got a small botanical piece done here last year, and the artist completely transformed my rough sketch into something breathtaking.

They focus heavily on client-centered, custom designs to ensure your piece reflects your personality. But specialization-wise, they’re great for complex realism and delicate fine-line styles.

I love that you can easily find an artist who matches your budget perfectly. They offer a highly flexible tiered pricing system based strictly on professional experience.

Been meaning to put up a review for weeks now lol

Paulina did such an amazing job with my first ever tattoo. Great communication, making sure I was comfortable before getting started. Very reasonably priced too.

Will definitely be coming back soon to get another tattoo cause I’m hooked lol

I booked an appointment with Evie at karmma tattoo for a cover up that I wanted done for a long time. She did an amazing job. I’m really impressed with the lines and how well she was able to turn a once mistake into a beautiful little piece that I can now show to the world. I would definitely recommend Evie and will be going back there for my future tattoos. It also helps that she is a very sweet person, everyone there was extremely nice. Professional and clean place.

Chronic Ink is a globally recognized collective that operates an incredibly professional facility right in Kitsilano. They handle everything from delicate fine-line work to intricate custom sleeves, focusing completely on turning your raw ideas into meaningful art.

Aside from tattoos, this shop also does piercings. They utilize highly skilled piercers and stock luxury, implant-grade jewelry for safety-conscious clients.

They have a strict policy against piercing guns, which just goes to show that they take your safety very seriously. You get a clinical level of cleanliness that often exceeds basic health board requirements.

You can also book technical services like laser tattoo removal right in the same building.

Because of their immense popularity, you should expect to pay premium hourly rates here. And because they don’t cater to spontaneous, walk-in requests, booking a session with their lead creators often requires waiting several months.

Pros

  • Specializes in complex Asian realism
  • Offers technical laser fading services
  • Strict medical-grade safety protocols
  • Stocks certified high-end piercing jewelry

Cons

  • Premium hourly pricing structure
  • Long waitlists for lead artists

This queer-women-owned tattoo shop actively breaks down the intimidating atmosphere you usually find in older parlors. Operating as both a high-quality studio and a curated art gallery, they truly support the local arts community.

They offer a massive range of styles, vegan-friendly inks, and specialized cosmetic services like permanent makeup. The founders actively mentor new apprentices, keeping their creative energy fresh and dynamic.

You’ll need to plan ahead if you want to get tattooed here, though. They strictly require appointments and non-refundable deposits, making spontaneous walk-ins virtually impossible.

Pros

  • Queer-women-owned safe space
  • Integrated local art gallery
  • Vegan-friendly ink options
  • Active apprentice mentoring program

Cons

  • Zero walk-in availability
  • Strict non-refundable deposits

I recently got a tattoo on my shoulder here and I couldn’t be happier with the result! The entire team was incredibly attentive and professional throughout the process. A huge shoutout to Ashley—she is a truly talented artist and did an amazing job with my tattoo. The staff is so friendly, welcoming, and genuinely kind. They made me feel right at home. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for high-quality work and a great atmosphere!

I had the privilege or being tattooed by the incredibly talented and lovely Clara Ryu (guest artist). Clara was an absolute pleasure to work with – friendly and professional, detail oriented, efficient, gentle, and precise. I couldn’t be happier with my experience with Clara at Liquid Amber. I got exactly what I wanted! Would Highly recommend!

4. LA MAISON TATTOO STUDIO

Website: https://www.lamaisontattoo.com/

Address: 369 Carrall St Floor 3

Contact: [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Sunday 11:00 am – 7:00 pm by appointment only

The founder of La Maison uses her management background to run an ego-free, beautiful boutique space in Gastown.

They supply stress balls, fidget toys, and disposable underwear to make sure you feel completely comfortable. In fact, when my best friend got her sleeve started here, the artist provided privacy screens and offered us coffee right away.

Over twelve resident artists work here, supplemented by an awesome rotation of international guest creators. This means you can easily find someone who nails your exact preferred style.

The studio sits on the third floor of a secure building, requiring a buzzer code to enter. This extra step and their strict appointment-only policy might annoy anyone looking for a quick, spontaneous session.

Pros

  • High-end hospitality approach
  • Extensive physical comfort amenities
  • Ego-free collaborative environment
  • Historic Gastown boutique setting

Cons

  • Controlled building access requires codes
  • Appointment-only scheduling

Best tattoo shop hands down. I’ve been too many and this far surpasses the rest of them. Danielle in particular is a one of one artist. Could not ask for a better more creative and technically perfect artist. Going to be coming here for a very long time!

I’m super picky with my tattoos… to the point that I went 10 years after my last one to start my sleeve. As soon as I saw Dav’s abstract work I knew I had to have him make my sleeve! My first piece was a few months ago on my shoulder and today I’m back for an elbow piece. Looking forward to eventually getting my whole arm covered!

5. Pacific Rose Tattoo

Website: https://www.pacificrosetattoo.com/

Address: 289 Abbott St suite #200

Contact: 604-642-6556 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Sunday 11:00 am – 7:00 pm

Building a brand around “tuff tattoos for soft people” perfectly captures the vibe of this long-standing Gastown staple. They explicitly cater to a diverse clientele and actively try to eliminate the intimidating, tough-guy stereotype.

You can often drop by for spontaneous ideas because they actually accept daily walk-ins. Their massive roster covers everything from traditional Japanese work to intricate illustrative styles.

We love that they maintain hospital-grade sterilization standards using top-tier autoclave equipment approved by local health authorities.

The only drawback is accessibility. Reaching the main shop involves climbing a steep flight of stairs in a historic building.

You also can’t get price estimates over the phone or email, requiring an in-person visit first. They do offer an alternative accessible room nearby, but you have to request it ahead of time.

Pros

  • Daily walk-in availability
  • Hospital-grade sterilization equipment
  • Inclusive and welcoming branding
  • Established local industry reputation

Cons

  • Main studio requires climbing stairs
  • Refuses price estimates over the phone

I have multiple tattoos done by April which look just as good as the day I got them (some are years old). Her technique is super gentle which makes healing a breeze  and sitting for longer tattoos much more bearable. She’s a super talented artist and overall lovely person to spend time with while dealing with the pain of getting tattooed (super attentive, reads the room for what you need during the session). Will definitely be back!

Super friendly and professional. Josh banged out two sound wave tattoos for us spontaneous walk-ins just visiting Vancouver. Also gave us a great sushi recommendation down the street at Tokyo in April, thanks guys! 🤩👊🏻 …
