5 Best Scalp Micropigmentation Studios in Edmonton So Everyday’s a Good Hair Day

  • Expertise - To ensure favourable results, we selected clinics with professionals who specialize in scalp micropigmentation and are knowledgeable in the field.
  • Facility and Safety Protocols - We checked the clinic's location, cleanliness and safety protocols to make sure the provider prioritizes hygienic practices.
  • Hours and Communication - We based this on how flexible the hours are to cater to busy clients and checked how thorough and educational their consultations are.
  • Value for Money - Scalp micropigmentation will have varying prices, so we looked at how justifiable their rates are. Are they transparent about the prices and do they match the results?

One of the main reasons we like SCALPMICRO is that its owner, Mitchell Stals, has been in the tattooing industry since 2007, which speaks about his expertise.

Our admiration for Stals and his team stems from their commitment to developing their skills. In 2020, they earned their first certificate in scalp micropigmentation (SMP), and have received training in colour theory to ensure they can provide natural-looking results.

We appreciate that they specialize in SMP because they can solely focus on it. It would be fine to call them the ultimate experts because they even offer certificate training courses in hair tattooing.

When we inquired with them, we learned that they strictly use black carbon-based inks to ensure your hair tattoo will not turn blue or green.

It’s also awesome they stick to high-quality pigments, fine specialty needles, and proper equipment for the best results. Frankly, we can see that in their portfolio.

The results we’ve witnessed have been nothing short of exceptional—with their technique, we didn’t even notice their clients have tattoos on their scalps.

The free consultation is a plus, along with their transparent pricing that matches the quality of their work. There’s even a free final touch-up.

Even though they don’t have their own space right now (they’re inside Silver Ghost Tattoo), we don’t mind because the studio is open daily and follows hygienic protocols.

Pros

  • Specializes in scalp micropigmentation
  • Uses all-black carbon-based inks
  • Continues to develop skills
  • Offers free consultations
  • Open any day of the week

Cons

  • Doesn’t have its own studio yet

Top-notch service throughout

“All staff were friendly and knowledgable. The shop is very clean. SMP procedure was explained well prior to, was very comfortable throughout, & aftercare was also very clear. The final results are a game changer! I’m so glad I did this and I highly recommend this business and Mitch if you are looking to have this service done.”

Cassandra Christen, Google Review

Absolute professional

“Scalp Micropigmentation Edmonton deserves more than 5 stars. Mitch performs SMP so much more than for work. He does it out of a passion and it shows. The man is a true professional and as such, deserves what he asks. Trust this man! He will give you a new found confidence and will absolutely make sure you are happy with the results. When getting SMP, don’t go looking for a deal, get it done right the first time, because you can’t cover up your head 24/7 when someone screws it up. This is the place to get it done right the first time.”

Edmonton’s Studio N Beauty is all about permanent makeup, from scalp to body. Even though they don’t focus on scalp micropigmentation, they have an expert who is certified in the procedure.

It’s also cool that their hair tattoo specialist speaks English and Chinese fluently. This makes them accessible to other nationalities, which we appreciate.

Upon entering their studio, you’ll be greeted by an aesthetically pleasing space. It felt very calming inside, but most importantly, the space was well-maintained and very clean—the free WiFi and parking slots in the area were bonuses.

It is a bummer that they don’t offer free consultations, unlike other studios on our list. There’s a $20 fee, and the session only lasts for 20 minutes, which we feel is quite short for a paid consult.

On a good note, their consultation was pressure-free—we didn’t feel like they were overselling their services. But we still thought that a longer session would’ve helped massively.

We also saw incredible results in their scalp micropigmentation procedures. It did look natural, and other people wouldn’t even notice you had a hair tattoo.

A standout feature is that they offer installment plans to help clients with their payments, which is helpful because this procedure is not cheap.

Pros

  • Specialist speaks English and Chinese
  • Plenty of parking space in the area
  • Consultation is pressure-free
  • Offers installment plans

Cons

  • No free consultations
  • Consultation is short

Friendly staff

“I felt welcome when I walked in !  Natalia welcomed me and explained all the process to me and it was very clear. She made me feel like a friend on her chair. The studio is very professional and friendly. Natalia was recommended to me by a friend and I will recommend Studio N and Natalia to all my friends.”

In Edmonton, Headways specializes in scalp micropigmentation. But what we love is their SMP technician, Kay Manuel, has plenty of experience in the field.

Actually, she has been in the professional cosmetic field for over 20 years. What pleased us the most was seeing how well she recognized the difficulties of hair loss, which we feel helped with her personalized approach.

One of the things we like is their free consultations. We learned during this appointment that there was no need to be insecure because their SMP technician remained professional and didn’t pressure clients about getting the procedure.

A defining feature is that they offer a trial run, which is basically a patch test, so you can see if SMP is the right path for you. This only costs $60, which is reasonable considering they’ll need to bring out the full equipment for a trial application.

As for the results, we were pleased with how natural the hair tattoo looked. We even noticed a confidence boost from our buddy because now you won’t even see a receding hairline.

It is unfortunate that they’re not open on weekends, which is the only issue we have here. But it’s worth taking a day off because the results are worth every loonie.

Pros

  • Over 20 years of professional cosmetic expertise
  • Offers SMP trial run
  • Provides free consultations

Cons

  • Closed on weekends

No-pressure consultations

“Kay was incredible to communicate with back and forth. I had several questions in a span of months, as I was not sure If this procedure was for me. Kay was patient and very knowledgeable providing as much information about the procedure as possible. I never felt pressured to move forward with the treatment, and even though I never did, I wanted to write this review. Thank you!!”

Dermillusion Beauty Co. has two locations: Edmonton and the neighbouring Sherwood Park. It does make them accessible because you can choose which is the closest for you.

They’re also open six days a week, which is convenient if you have a busy work schedule. We were glad that they’re also very responsive when it comes to inquiries and setting up appointments, which was very much appreciated.

This studio is all about permanent cosmetic treatments. Their team has years of experience in the field, which definitely makes them qualified for the job.

During the free consultation, we were pleased with how thorough the discussion was, even though there was a limited schedule—only two days a week.

But it’s nice that this runs for 30 minutes and is available in person, by phone, and by video call for convenience.

At their studio, we appreciate their strict safety protocols. They only use pre-packaged needles to ensure a safe treatment.

It’s worth highlighting that they require women to provide a physician’s diagnosis before getting an SMP treatment.

It’s to make sure that hair loss isn’t a symptom of medical issues, and we appreciate how careful they are with this to ensure effective results.

Pros

  • Consultations are free
  • Has two locations
  • Asks women for physician’s diagnosis

Cons

  • Limited availability for consultations

Incredibly detailed

“Elisha is amazing… she takes so much time with each person and pays attention to every little detail of her work!”

“Elisha ….not only personable and caring but very knowledgeable and talented in her profession…

a great young lady ..I highly recommend her!!”

Jenny L, an aesthetician, founded J NU U. It was her background and expertise in cosmetic treatments that impressed us.

She started in South Korea, where she acquired various certifications, including the AirDot SMP, a technique using nano-sized dots to cover the thinning scalp. Beyond that, she also trained in Canada and has continued to improve her skill sets.

One of the things we like about her is that she uses cutting-edge technology for effective and efficient results. We also learned that she uses the latest techniques, which shows her dedication to continuing education.

And if what we’ve seen is any indication, her methods have been successful. We were pleased to see how natural she made her scalp pigmentation treatments—it’s like it wasn’t SMP at all.

Plus, we were happy with her tailored services. She actually provides advice and suggestions for hairlines that will suit the face best.

Another thing we were happy about is the free consultations. What made it better was how detailed it was—we could’ve asked a million questions, and she would still have the patience.

Our only gripe is her studio is located in St. Albert, but it’s not a massive commute problem if you have a vehicle. Nonetheless, she’s available for bookings any day of the week, so you can choose the day with less traffic.

Pros

  • Open any day of the week
  • Acquired various certifications
  • Offers free consultations
  • Provides tailored services

Cons

  • Studio is in St. Albert

Overall excellent service

“Jenny is AWESOME!!🤩🤩 I got a hairline tattoo and eyelash perm and it was an amazing experience. She explained the whole process throughly and made me comfortable during the session. She took care of every detail and did a great job. I thought my lashes were too short and not enough amount for perm but she found every single lash hiding somewhere lol and got them permed and now they look beautiful! Can’t wait for the next appointment.”

Juyun Kim, Google Review

Talented and great personality

“If you’re looking for someone who is super talented, very knowledgeable, up to date on all the new things, then Jenny is your girl! Highly recommend her. Plus her amazing personality makes for a really great appointment! Highly suggest!!”
