Ah, Fernie—a charming small town in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. It’s where you can marvel at BC’s nature while trying the many different cuisines it has to offer.
With the many restaurants in town, it’s difficult to choose where to eat. So, we’ve rounded up our favourite restaurants in Fernie because we don’t gatekeep here! Let’s go!

If you’re craving Latin American food, NEVADOS is a must-try. This downtown spot has a laid-back ambiance, perfect for dinner after a day of activities in Fernie!
The tapas (appetizers) are bestsellers, and we understand why! The patacones (fried green plantains) and the for-sharing ceviche (citrusy fish chunks) are great finger foods to pair with a margarita—try the coconut ginger!
With seasonal dishes, every visit to NEVADOS gives you a unique experience. They have filling burritos to keep your tummy full while taking shots of tequila!
Pro Tip:
We suggest patio dining when it’s dark out. The ambiance and cool air make a perfect combination for outdoor dining.

A South Asian Bistro along 2nd Avenue serves authentic Himalayan dishes. There’s a meal for every Fernie visitor here because there are vegetarian and gluten-free dishes!
Dining here isn’t complete without starting with garlic naan and one of the most popular dishes, butter chicken or chicken lababdar (boneless chicken with creamy sauce). Don’t forget to order saffron rice so you can sprinkle some of the sauce there. Yum!
Pro Tip:
Remember to ask the server about the spice levels if you aren’t sure you can handle spicy South Asian food. The hottest one can make you sweat if you aren’t used to it.

A trendy pub in downtown Fernie that’s difficult to miss. This urban bar and grill is located in the historic old building of the Imperial Bank of Canada.

Try to eat during weekdays to avoid peak hours. The wait can get up to an hour if the pub is packed.

Our team loves sushi, and this Japanese restaurant is always a stop every time we’re in Fernie. A staple is the Fernie roll, which is made from tuna, kimchi, green onion, and tempura bits.
Other dishes you need to try are the sashimi carpaccio and the Fusion Rolls. Kazan roll sushi, which has volcano fire sauce and chilli strands, is delicious but is not for the faint of heart—it’s spicy!!
Pro Tip:
Try to avoid weekends and get there early because this is a local hotspot. Sometimes, there’s already a line before it opens its doors.

A visit to Fernie isn’t complete without sipping on rich and extraordinarily flavourful wines. This wine bar and restaurant is another favourite stop because of its incredible selection of BC wines.
The menu changes every season, which makes for a surprise with every visit—try to catch the fall menu, which is full of pumpkin-spiced everything! But always order a meat and cheese board to complement your preferred wine.

Pizza is always the way to go, especially if you’re overwhelmed with the eateries in Fernie. This pizza truck is popular for its wood-fired 12″ pizza with fluffy dough. Yum!
Our team is particularly fond of Pepper-oney, which is a cheesy pepperoni pizza, and In A Nutshell, which has fior di latte (soft mozzarella), friulano (cow’s milk cheese), parmesan, red onion, and sprinkled generously with pistachios and chilli honey.
Pro Tip:
Always check the restaurant’s social media pages for the opening hours because they change frequently.
A must-try is drizzling some chilli honey on your pizza slice.
It’s best to order for take-out or pick-up during winter. This pizzeria is a food truck and only has outside picnic tables.

This modern European restaurant is the place to go for brunch along Highway 3. The menu offers staple and seasonal dishes, complete with daily specials that taste like fancy home-cooked meals—we were lucky to catch the salmon dish with rice pilaf!
The smoked salmon benny is a must-try from the breakfast menu, while the vegetarian quesadilla for lunch is filled to the brim with spinach, balsamic onions, roasted red peppers, ricotta pesto, and cheese.
Pro Tip:
Dinner gets busy, even on weekdays, so we recommend going for breakfast or lunch. You won’t miss a dish since there’s only one menu for lunch and dinner.
Big Bang Bagels

A bagel every morning is never a bad thing, and this adorable little spot in Fernie makes fresh, homemade bagels every day with many varieties, including jalapeño cheese and chocolate chip! You can never go wrong with a simple cream cheese bagel, though.
But for those who want a bagel sandwich, a go-to is the Avolauncher with avocado, red onion, sprouts, herb and garlic cream cheese, and cheddar. If you’re more adventurous, the Switchback Salmon is a must-try with salmon, red onion, and cream cheese.
Pro Tip:
If you want an extra spicy kick, the hot pepper cream cheese is a must.
Try to avoid breakfast time because it can get busy. Lines can get long since many people order for take-out.
