  • Qualifications – We checked their team’s credentials and experience, given that they handle a person’s mental health.
  • Treatment plan – The psychologist’s approach to crafting suitable treatment plans for their patients matters, so we checked out this aspect.
  • Availability and scheduling – We chose clinics that can accommodate their patients on time, have flexible schedules, and handle each client session efficiently.
  • Track record – We selected psychologists with a track record of positive progress after every session.
  • Client care – It’s crucial to address clients with proper courtesy and acknowledge any concerns involving their service or clinic.
  • Price – We listed places with reasonable rates, considering if they accept any insurance, follow a sliding-scale fee policy and charge any other fees.

You know, I’ve seen a lot of videos lately of people chatting with AI like it’s their best friend, soulmate, or even their therapist. It’s entertaining—until you start unpacking real emotions with a chatbot that just spits out scripted answers, it might actually do more harm than good.

And let’s be real: while venting to friends and family can help, it’s not always enough. That’s why we’ve reviewed the best psychologists in Toronto—whether you’re looking for support with ADHD, anxiety, relationships, or just need someone qualified to talk to.

Talk and Thrive’s process for adult autism and ADHD assessments feels pretty methodical—structured, but not cold. From what we’ve seen, a lot of people go in unsure and come out feeling like they finally have a clear picture of what’s going on.

They’ve got a mixed team behind the scenes, not just psychologists, but also psychometrists, nurse practitioners, therapists, and coaches. Armita Hosseini, who runs the clinic, has two master’s degrees, is licensed in Ontario, and sits on several professional boards.

We love how comfortable they work with people who don’t necessarily “look” autistic or who’ve been missed in earlier assessments, especially women, people in the LGBTQ+ community, and folks from different cultural backgrounds.

Booking is fairly straightforward, too; you can book without a referral, and the online forms are quick to fill out.

If you’re in Toronto, Etobicoke, or Nova Scotia, they do in-person assessments. They also offer virtual ones via a secure online platform for those in the other provinces (like Quebec), which makes things more flexible.

Just note that they’re closed on weekends, so it’s a good idea to plan your sessions with that in mind. Still, they’re incredibly responsive, making things easier for clients.

Pros

  • Experienced with adult autism and ADHD assessments
  • Has a team of experts
  • Expertise in complex neurodivergent profiles
  • Works great with the LGBTQ+ community
  • Straightforward booking
  • Offers in-person and virtual sessions
  • Upfront fees and cancellation policies

Cons

  • Closed on weekends

    Very professional and thorough

“Very professional and thorough Doctor who is excellent in her services. I came across TalkNThrive by chance and was amazed at the clarity and info I received. Highly recommend her for anyone who is thinking of seeking an assessment!”

    Malloch Bathish, Google Review

Go-to for complex adult ASD assessments

“Psychologist Armita Hosseini is my go to expert for consultation regarding adult ASD assessments, parenting consultation, and trauma and anxiety treatment. She brings a wealth of academic and applied experience to her clinical practice. For parents and adults seeking psychological services, including therapy and assessments, I would highly recommend seeking a professional consult. I would also recommend colleagues who seek supervision for complex adult assessment cases to reach out to her.”

Toronto Psychologists take a pretty flexible approach when it comes to therapy, like evidence-based methods, such as CBT, ACT, DBT, Schema Therapy, and a few others.

Dr. Stacy Lekkos runs the place and has been in the field for over 20 years. She’s worked with all age groups in different settings, from hospitals to community clinics, which gives her a well-rounded perspective.

One thing we found helpful is that they don’t just focus on adults. If you’re looking for support for your child or teen, they’ve got team members who specifically work with younger clients.

Language is something they consider, too. Dr. Lekkos offers sessions in English and Greek, and there are other therapists on the team who might speak different languages.

Scheduling is another plus: they offer evening and occasional weekend appointments, and virtual therapy is available as well.

As for cost, it’s definitely up there. Rates are usually between $200 and $250 per hour, which is higher than others. If you’ve got extended health coverage, it helps, but it’s something to factor in.

    Pros

    • Flexible approach to evidence-based methods
    • Highly experienced psychologist
    • Works with people of all ages
    • Offers sessions in English and Greek
    • Available seven days a week

    Cons

    • Slightly pricier rates

      Easy to connect with

“Dr. Lekkos is AMAZING! I have referred many clients to her and I always feel very confident in doing so. She is very knowledgeable but also incredibly warm and easy to connect with. She dedicates a lot of time and energy to her practice and associates. Absolutely recommend!”

What stands out about Toronto Psychology & Wellness Group (TPWG) is its focus on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and eating disorder treatment. They offer both group and one-on-one sessions for teens, adults, and even caregivers.

Another thing that sets them apart is the access to medical care alongside therapy. If you’re dealing with something like an eating disorder, you can get physician-led monitoring that’s covered by OHIP, which is hard to find.

They have an impressive team, too: think psychologists, dietitians, psychometrists, social workers, and nurse practitioners, who work together instead of sending you in circles.

Speaking of psychologists, Dr. Michele Foster’s name comes up a lot. She sees both teens and adults and works with tough stuff like PTSD, OCD, self-harm, and emotional regulation.

The catch? It’s not cheap. While the medical piece is covered by OHIP, therapy and dietitian services often run over $250 an hour. Also, they’re in pretty high demand, so getting an appointment might take some time.

But hey, if you’re looking for a place that brings medical and psychological care together under one roof, they’re a reliable pick.

      Pros

      • Experienced with Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and eating disorder treatment
      • Provides access to medical care
      • Some services can be covered by OHIP
      • Has a team of experts

      Cons

      • Rates are steeper than others

“This is a fantastic clinic that treats people with compassion and total professionalism.Dr Foster conducted a workshop for our company that was met with rave reviews .I am also aware of many that have used their services and always have heard great things about the team . Caring and thoughtful

“Dr. Foster is a highly knowledgeable and competent psychologist. I have seen her speak professionally in workshops she has given, and I have consulted with her on different professional issues on a number of occasions. She is caring and thoughtful and I would recommend her to others without reservation…”

PathWell has a wide range of professionals under one roof. Along with psychologists, there are also executive coaches, a psychiatrist, a registered dietitian, personal trainers, and even massage therapists.

Dr. Magnatta is one of the psychologists there. She’s worked in hospital and corporate settings, and from what we’ve seen, she factors in everything from mental health to physical wellness and cultural background.

They also do full psychological assessments for things like ADHD, autism, learning challenges, and memory issues, for both kids and adults.

What’s also nice is that the reports aren’t just clinical—they come with clear next steps, which can be a big help when you’re trying to figure out school support or workplace accommodations.

Now, the pricing’s a bit steep. Therapy sessions run about $260 an hour, which is above the usual rate you’ll see around.

On the plus side, they do offer a free 15-minute discovery call where you can talk to a Mental Health Advisor and get matched with someone before officially booking.

        Pros

        • Diverse team of professionals
        • Has experience working in different settings
        • Works with people of all ages
        • Does full psychological assessments

We love how Susan’s approach feels collaborative. She’s big on building coping tools and helping clients make real progress between sessions, which even some initially skeptical people end up appreciating once they see the shift that comes from putting in work.

She’s got a bunch of approaches up her sleeve, such as CBT, EFT, solution-focused, attachment-based, but it never feels like she’s pulling from a textbook. It’s more like she’s adjusting as you go.

And she doesn’t just do individual work, she’s also comfortable handling relationship concerns, from communication struggles and infidelity to divorce recovery and premarital therapy.

But we do think it’s a bummer that her practice is fully virtual. That’s great if you’re juggling a lot or live outside the city, but if you prefer in-person, it might feel a bit flat.

Nonetheless, if you’re struggling with things like burnout, identity, perfectionism, and work-life balance, then she’s a trustworthy professional.

          Pros

          • Collaborative effort with clients
          • Experienced in using different methods
          • Great with couples therapy

          Cons

          • Closed on weekends
          • No in-person sessions
          • Slightly pricier rates

            Incredible couples therapist

“Susan is an incredible couples therapist with a warm, compassionate, and insightful approach. She has a unique ability to create a safe and supportive environment, helping clients navigate challenges with empathy and understanding. Her expertise and dedication to her clients make her an exceptional choice for anyone seeking couples therapy. I highly recommend her!”

            Well-versed, compassionate, and welcoming
