Montreal’s 5 Best Orthopedic Surgeons [Ranked by Patient Care and Results!]

  • Specialization – We focused on orthopedists with proven expertise in orthopedic care, such as sports injuries, chronic pain, arthritis requiring joint replacement, spinal conditions, fractures, or other bone, joint, or ligament issues.
  • Technology and equipment – We sought clinics that utilize advanced diagnostic tools and operate modern surgical or non-surgical techniques to ensure accurate assessments and effective treatments.
  • Treatment approach – We considered how well each orthopedist develops personalized care plans that reflect a patient’s specific condition, activity level, and long-term mobility goals.
  • Availability and scheduling – We prioritized orthopedists who offer reasonable wait times, flexible appointment options, and consistent follow-up care to support recovery.
  • Patient care – We looked for professionals who communicate clearly, show empathy, and make patients feel comfortable and informed throughout the treatment process.
  • Track record and results – We included orthopedists with a strong record of successful outcomes, backed by patient reviews, referrals, or clinical experience.
  • Price – We chose clinics that are upfront about their fees and clearly explain any additional costs for procedures or services not covered by insurance.

You know, I’m starting to rethink the whole “break a leg” thing people say for good luck. I’m not being dramatic, but I literally yelled those exact words while cheering at my nephew’s high school hockey game—and sure enough, he actually broke his leg after a rough tackle.

Sticks and stones, eh? Or in this case…hockey sticks and pucks. Anyway, thank goodness for the bone specialist who patched him right back up.

That whole experience got my whole team and me digging deeper to review the best orthopedists in Montreal. So, whether you’re dealing with a sports injury, arthritis, fractures, or any kind of ligament, bone, or joint pain, keep reading—we rounded up the top experts for you.

Dr Mina Morcos from Montreal Hip & Knee Private Surgical Clinic is a reliable specialist if you need hip or knee replacement or arthroscopy. He has fellowships in complex reconstruction and trauma surgery, so he’s well-versed with failed implants or complicated joint problems.

Given how sensitive these types of procedures are, we like that his clinic uses robotic navigation, 3D planning, and sub-millimetre precision implants for better joint alignment, fewer complications, and faster recovery.

Speaking of recovery, we have to give them props for having a defined post-surgery, 5-step recovery system, which is basically a method to accelerate healing.

And from what we’ve seen, many patients have been discharged in 24-48 hours after joint replacement, and many walk the same day, too. This is a big plus, lowering the overall burden—the faster you go home, the lower your bill.

As for wait times, you can expect your consultation to be scheduled within two weeks, a far cry from the 12-18 months common in the public system. But their doors are closed on weekends, so plan your schedule accordingly.

Pros

  • Notable complex reconstruction experience
  • Offers robotic-assisted surgery
  • Short wait times
  • No referral required for consultations
  • 5-step recovery system
  • Fast recovery and early mobility

Cons

  • Closed on weekends

Professional and personalized service

“Dr. Morcos is exceptional! The reference for surgery (arthroscopy) like the one I received. Rating 10/10. Professional and personalized service. Several follow-ups. I recommend him to everyone.”

Stéphane Chenier, Google Review

Clear, responsive, and very kind

“I came to Dr. Morcos for a meniscus repair. I travelled across Canada to have this done and I have zero regrets. Dr. Marcos and his entire team were clear, responsive, informative and very kind when I finally made it to Montreal. My knee was repaired and I’m walking like I haven’t in such a long time. I cannot recommend Dr. Morcos and this clinic enough. Absolutely, 100%, if I need any further knee work, I know where I’ll be going.”

Dr Adam Hart has strong academic credentials (MD, BEng, MSc, FRCSC), completed a prestigious fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, and is an assistant professor of surgery at McGill University.

He specializes in both primary and revision hip and knee replacements. We like that he uses minimally invasive techniques since they often mean less tissue damage, faster recovery, and a potentially shorter hospital stay.

Their ROSA robotic system is another advantage, especially for implant positioning and improving accuracy. If you go for this option, it might help reduce recovery time.

On that note, we love that their surgeries include two days and nights at the centre. You won’t be left alone; plus, you’ll even get assigned a dedicated nurse who remains available after surgery.

The catch? Well, all the perks and inclusions from the surgery come with a hefty price, and pre-op consultations and tests aren’t included in those prices.

Here’s the silver lining: if you meet certain criteria, you can have a same-day discharge and be charged $2,500 less than the fixed procedure price.

Pros

  • Great with minimally invasive surgeries
  • Offers ROSA robotic system
  • All-inclusive post-op care package
  • Assigns a dedicated nurse
  • Optional day-surgery discount

Cons

  • Some fees can be pricier than others

Everything went smoothly

“Total knee replacement. Everything went smoothly from initial diagnosis, the operation itself, and the subsequent follow up. The operation was completely successful and seven weeks later I have functional mobility i,e. Walking without a cane, driving, going to the supermarket…”

Paul Baehr, Google Review

Life changing surgery

“Dr. Hart replaced my hip a year ago today. Every day since then I have thanked him in my heart. What a life changing surgery performed by this amazing, compassionate man.”

Besides his usual 8 to 5, Dr Marc Beauchamp is also a researcher, speaker, and academic, making him a well-rounded and experienced orthopedic surgeon.

We found that he has a knack for handling the upper extremities. So, say you have a shoulder or elbow injury like a rotator cuff tear, dislocation, or tendon issues; you can rely on him to take care of it efficiently.

It’s also worth noting that his clinic emphasizes using advanced, least invasive techniques for operations, which puts less stress on your tissues and means less post-op discomfort.

Another thing that stood out to us is his use of ultrasound guidance to boost precision for injections or diagnostic evaluation—removing guesswork from the picture and improving overall safety.

You’ll have to prepare your wallets, though. As much as we love that their fees are upfront and clear on their website, we did note that some surgeries are more costly than at other clinics.

But hey, with over 9,000 successful procedures in his bag, we believe his services and expertise are well worth the investment.

Pros

  • Wide range of upper-extremity services
  • Uses minimally invasive techniques
  • Done over 9,000 procedures
  • Uses ultrasound for consultations
  • Excellent bedside manner and floor-through

Cons

  • Starting fees for other surgeries can be pricey
  • Pre-op tests are charged separately

Recovery was very fast

“I consulted Dr. Beauchamp after being referred to me by a public orthopedist. Within 2 weeks I was evaluated and operated on for my shoulder. From start to finish, the experience exceeded my expectations. The recovery was very fast and I was able to resume my activities sooner than I expected. Thank you to Dr. Beauchamp and his team for their attention and for providing 5-star service. I highly recommend.”

The unique thing about Dr Marie Gdalevitch from CLLC Montreal is that she specializes in limb lengthening and deformity correction.

If you’re dealing with complex limb discrepancies, need adjustments, are correcting asymmetries, or want a cosmetic lengthening, then she’s a reliable orthopedic surgeon for the job.

What we love most is that they treat both pediatric and adult patients. This is a game-changer for families where kids have congenital or growth deformities, as well as adults with acquired discrepancies or wanting cosmetic height.

And if you’re wondering how the lengthening works and looks while recovery, we’re glad that she uses intramedullary nails instead of those older external fixators. The internal nails are less bulky, more comfy, and allow more movement during the lengthening process.

But with great precision and specialization comes greater prices. Their rates and fees are on the higher end, and you can expect to incur additional fees for other pre- and post-op tests or steps.

On the bright side, we can’t deny their successful results and recovery process, especially with how they continue their care and support after the operation.

Pros

  • Specializes in limb lengthening and deformity correction
  • Treats both kids and adults
  • Uses modern internal lengthening nails
  • Does psychological evaluations

Cons

  • Pricey procedures and fees
  • Doesn’t focus on hip or knee procedures

Very informative and helpful

“I consulted Dr. Marie Gdalevitch for problems I had for some time involving both knees. She was very informative and helpful, analyzing my x-rays and providing insight as to which treatment would be best for me. The treatment was well explained and did not cause me any pain at all. I very much appreciated our meeting, and would highly recommend her without hesitation.”

Joanne Coleman-Robertson, Google Review
