What’s neat about Gateway Surgery is that they can handle many orthopaedic procedures, including hip, knee, spine, elbow, wrist, and foot/ankle injuries, from joint replacements to arthroscopies. 

That said, we appreciate how they guide and assist you through pre-op workups, personalized surgical planning, and more, reducing the burden on patients. To give you an idea, they even assist with booking, documentation, and travel arrangements if surgery is in another city. 

Their post-op follow-up is also a thoughtful touch. They continue to support with wound checks and rehabilitation guidance for better recovery and help catch issues early.  

Now, you can meet specialists in person or virtually. Just note that they’re closed on weekends. 

On the bright side, you can book a consultation within 1-2 weeks through their concierge scheduling team, and can start waiting for a private surgery in the next 4-15 weeks—far quicker than many public waitlists.

Right off the bat, Access Orthopaedics really does open the doors for orthopaedic treatments. They have a team of surgeons, neurosurgeons, rehabilitation specialists, sport medicine physicians, and experienced physiotherapists under one roof. 

On top of that, they have imaging available on-site, which streamlines the diagnostic process so you don’t have to go elsewhere for X-rays or scans. 

Another thing we love is that they can see patients urgently for non-surgical fractures and soft-tissue injuries and even provide cast removal or application on-site.

Here’s the thing, though: if you’re planning to come in as a WCB patient, they won’t accept you. So, if you’re injured at work, you may need alternate care pathways.

Other than that, this clinic is a solid pick. They even offer pain relief options like injections delivered by physiatry specialists in an interventional suite; a win for those struggling with ongoing pain that holds back healing or activity.

True to its name, The Knee Clinic specializes in knee injuries and pain rather than general orthopaedics.

The downside? You won’t find comprehensive non-knee treatments here. The good news is that since they primarily focus on one thing, the clinicians have a deeper and nuanced experience in both simple and complex cases. 

There are even custom knee braces and on-site bracket selection, which is a plus in our books. The tailored bracing they provide can reduce pain and improve function more effectively than generic options. 

We found that they offer physiotherapy, chiropractic services, acupuncture, massage therapy and more, too, to go alongside your procedure for speedy recovery. 

It’s also worth noting that you won’t have to wait months for assessment and treatment—they aim to take you in within days or weeks. 

Quick heads-up: some patients said that the fees can be pretty pricey, so it’s better to discuss this thoroughly before committing. Still, we can’t deny that their knee expertise is worth the investment.

One of the main standouts with Alberta Hip and Knee Clinic is that they have a large team, with around 23 orthopedic surgeons and MSK specialists. Having many experienced experts definitely increases the chances of matching your specific problem with a suitable surgeon.

And we’re glad that they’re able to provide you with coordinated care thanks to their team of nurse case managers, rehab staff, and even admin support. 

Bonus perk: patients are offered healthy living classes and printed guides on hip and knee replacements, pain management, and mobility tools before surgery. It’s essentially a way for you to boost your confidence and peace of mind.

On the flipside, you’ll have to prepare yourself for longer wait times, too. You see, among other things, they don’t provide private pay options, so you’ll have to go through the public system process. 

Nonetheless, once it’s your turn, we do believe their process is efficient, like their structured post-op follow-ups.

Speaking of athletes, the clinic has on-site reconditioning and strength-training services. Plus, they have individualized programs focusing on biomechanics, injury prevention, and physical performance, which can benefit athletes returning to activity.
