Pros

  • Open every day
  • Offers virtual services
  • Caters to provinces outside of BC
  • Known for compassionate approach

Cons

  • No in-person appointments
  • No female marriage counsellor currently available

Wellspring Counselling’s wide client reach in Canada is one of the things we admire, from Metro Vancouver to British Columbia and selected provinces. It allows them to reach more clients looking for counselling services, which we find really useful.

Additionally, we appreciate their daily availability with long operating hours—highly convenient for busy couples. It also helps that their services are available virtually, which means no need to brave the rush hour traffic in Vancouver!

While we appreciate their virtual counselling services, we were saddened that they don’t currently accept in-person appointments. Some couples prefer that, so we see this as a downside.

On the bright side, we were impressed that they provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, a counselling approach that helps us process past experiences.

We also appreciate their other psychotherapy approaches: Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), a belief that emotions are linked with identity, and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which focuses on mental and emotional issues. They’re experts in a tonne!

Another aspect we highly appreciate about Wellspring Counseling is they have a highly skilled group of counsellors. However, they currently don’t have a female counsellor for marriage counselling appointments, which we hope they could consider in the future.

Lastly, we admire their marriage counsellors for their compassionate approach—a common praise we gathered from our surveys. Many also noted their insightfulness, which we think is really helpful for couples going through difficult times.

Pros

  • Has two Vancouver locations
  • Offers in-person and virtual sessions
  • Has a large team
  • Trained in multiple therapy approaches

Cons

  • In-person counselling varies per location
  • Downtown office is closed on Sundays

One of the things we like about Well Beings Counselling is their high accessibility. They currently have multiple locations in BC and Ontario, with two in Vancouver alone!

However, their West Vancouver office is only available for virtual and phone sessions. On a positive note, they accept in-person appointments at their Downtown Vancouver location.

Also, we were a bit bummed to learn their downtown office is closed on Sundays. Sadly, not all locations are open every day.

Another aspect we admire is their large team of counsellors for both BC and Ontario. As a result, you can choose your preferred counsellor as long as they’re available, whether you feel comfortable with a man, woman, or non-binary.

Moreover, their counsellors are highly trained and educated in multiple approaches—another aspect we like. In our opinion, their team’s flexibility and diversity are beneficial as they can easily transition from one client to another.

In fact, they are trained in EFT, CBT, EDMR Therapy, and the Gottman Method, which disarms conflicting verbal communication and increases intimacy and respect. For us, their various areas of practice benefit different types of couples as they can be flexible.

It also helps that the Well Beings Counselling team has an approachable nature, which their clients noted. In our opinion, this quality contributes to open communication, which is vital for couples to discuss their problems comfortably.

Pros

  • Speaks in other languages
  • Offers low-cost counselling
  • Provides in-person and virtual sessions
  • Has social workers on the team

Cons

  • Not open every day
  • Limited coverage area

Stewart & Associates Counselling & Coaching Services was established in 1998, which earns them points in our book since that’s 25 years of experience! We also like that aside from catering to couples; they also service individuals and families.

A standout factor is they speak in other languages—they speak English, French, Spanish, and Italian. That’s an extremely beneficial service, and we really admire them for providing counselling for different nationalities.

In addition to that, we really like their team as it consists of registered clinical counsellors and social workers. For us, this makes them highly qualified to deal with multiple problems.

Plus, we commend them for providing affordable services, starting for as little as $30 per session. It’s admirable for us as it allows more people to seek marriage counselling.

It’s worth noting that they provide virtual and in-person counselling sessions. So, it doesn’t matter whether you want to stay at home or face the Vancouver traffic!

However, we were disappointed at their limited availability as their marriage counselling services are not available daily, which we find can hinder busy schedules. On a good note, selected counsellors accept Saturday bookings sometimes.

Also, since they cater mainly to the lower mainland, we found their coverage area slightly more limited than other marriage counselling services in Vancouver.

Pros

  • Provides low-cost counselling
  • Offers sliding scale rates
  • Has in-person and virtual sessions

Cons

  • 1-month waitlist for low-cost counselling
  • Limited availability on weekends

In 2014, Thrive Counselling Centre was founded by Dace Mars and Carson Kivari to act as a safe healing space. In fact, their experience includes treating the trauma faced by military veterans, which we feel further enhanced their expertise.

We appreciate that they have a pretty large team of counsellors, which means more clients to accept. They also have male and female counsellors, an aspect we find important as clients can choose someone they feel comfortable with.

Aside from marriage counselling, their services include individual counselling, EDMR therapy, and psychedelic integration. We also like that they are available for in-person and online sessions for their client’s convenience.

Price-wise, we were pleasantly surprised at their low rates. They charge $180 plus GST for couples counselling, while it’s $80 plus GST for intern counsellors—a good option to consider for clients on tight budgets.

It’s also worth noting that they offer sliding scale rates for clients who cannot afford to pay the full price per session. For us, their low-cost counselling shows the constant care and dedication they want to provide to each client regardless of financial status.

On the downside, there’s a month-long waitlist for low-cost counselling. So, we suggest putting your name on the list immediately!

We were also bummed they’re closed on weekends. While they have very limited openings on Saturdays (usually just 2 sessions), it’s unavailable for the majority of their marriage counsellors.

Pros

  • Available daily
  • Has in-person and virtual appointments
  • Counsellors speak in other languages

Cons

  • Limited availability of male counsellor
  • Some miscommunication issues

Clearheart Counselling’s daily availability is one of their positive features, in our opinion. They are accessible to any client, especially for couples with different work schedules.

We also really like that their team is composed of female and male counsellors. However, they currently only have one male counsellor, which is a drawback if clients prefer him as he has limited weekly availability.

Another aspect we really like is their expertise and various psychotherapy approaches. They are well-versed in EMDR therapy, CBT, EFT, and Bader-Pearson counselling, an approach that focuses on developmental stages.

In addition to their expertise, we were impressed that most of their marriage counsellors speak in other languages, such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Russian, and Farsi.

For us, their ability to speak other languages is a big deal as it allows them to take clients of different nationalities—especially newcomers in Canada!

Plus, they are available for in-person and virtual marriage counselling sessions—a convenient aspect we really like. There’s no need to worry too much about rush-hour traffic!

We were also happy about our client surveys as they showed Clearheart Counselling’s warm and respectful strategy—important details during marriage counselling sessions. In our opinion, it keeps clients at ease, especially when pouring out their problems.

Unfortunately, there were some instances of dissatisfaction regarding selected counsellors due to miscommunication. Nevertheless, these seem to be rare occurrences.
