9 Dog-Friendly Patios in Vancouver Your Pups Will Get the Zoomies For

One of my favourite things about being a Vancouverite is that the city always considers our four-legged pals. For instance, come summertime, restaurants, cafes, and bars will start opening their dog-friendly patios, which are perfect hangout spots for hoomans and doggos.

These are some of my favourite spots in the city because they allow me to chill and enjoy good food without worrying about my dog being left alone at home. Plus, it helps that they’re either the most serene or most lively places in Vancouver—either way, you’re in for a treat!

So, if you want some much-needed me time and enjoy beer, coffee, dessert, brunch, or anything in between, consider bringing your pets to these dog-friendly patios in Vancouver!

Whenever my dog and I can’t agree on what to eat (yes, we communicate), BAE SIDE False Creek is always one of our go-tos. They offer a wide array of dishes that can cater to different cravings, from sushi to pizza, burgers and tacos.

Our favourite out of the bunch, however, is their Lotus Dream Cheesecake, which is the perfect way to end a savoury meal. It combines two of my favourite indulgences at the moment: Lotus Biscoff and the most velvet-y cheesecake we’ve tried in Vancouver.

We also love the overall laid-back vibe of the patio, as it overlooks the stunning waters of False Creek. This view serves as the backdrop for your IG-worthy photos or your Happy Hour drinking sesh with your friends.

Pro tip:

If you’re looking to catch up with your friends over some cheap but refreshing cocktails, consider visiting on weekdays from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM or 9:00 PM until closing time. This will let you enjoy their different cocktails and light bites at discounted prices!

The Wicklow Pub should be on your radar if you’re all about cold drinks, the bayside and laid-back vibes. For starters, it’s home to countless draft beers on tap, from pale ales to sours, lagers, and whatever your palate prefers.

Foodies (and doggos) will also get a kick here, thanks to the menu’s wide selection of comfort food. In a place this close to the bay, however, we can’t help but gravitate towards their fish and chips, especially when the batter and tartare sauce are as well-made as this.

Lastly, we have to mention their refreshing selection of creative cocktails, as they’re some of the best drinks to sip on while admiring the bay views. You must try the Elderbubble—it has a refreshing finish, courtesy of the prosecco and freshly-squeezed lemon juice!

Pro tip:

If you want something to share with your doggos during your afternoon date, we recommend getting the pulled pork poutine! They’ll inhale this in seconds, so make sure to get a separate serving for your furbaby.

Steamworks Brewpub is a fantastic option if you’re looking for someplace to hold your catch-up with your friends—and maybe they can bring their dogs as well! For instance, it features several pool tables where you and your pals can get a friendly competition going.

Meanwhile, if laid-back is more your style, you can get a table at the patio and admire the city views of North Vancouver. This is also where you can peacefully hang out with your doggos while munching on chicken tenders, nachos, poutine, and a whole lot of other Western classics.

Lastly, you MUST enter this place at least once to admire the art of making freshly crafted draft beer. They’re poured on tap and come in different flavours, among which is the summer berry, which is the perfect drink for the patio season!

Pro tip:

Don’t miss out on their sirloin steak! It’s perfectly seasoned, massive, comes with vegetables and mashed potatoes, and best of all, your dogs will love it as well.

Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions immediately caught our attention with its beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious interior. Come summertime, beautiful sunrays enter the space, creating a nice cosy spot for those seeking cocktails, beers, and good food.

The vibes are just as immaculate on their patio, where patrons can enjoy their comfort food on umbrella-shaded tables. This area comes alive at times, during one of the restaurant’s many events, like disco mornings!

Their dishes deserve just as much praise, as they feature generous proportions, fresh ingredients, and amazing flavours. One of our favourites here is the Carolina BBQ tenderloin, which features a decent kick and juicy meat!

Pro tip:

If you want to treat your palate to something new, we recommend getting the uncrustable as your main cocktail. It consists of rye, peanut butter-flavoured whiskey, and strawberry soda—the result is much better than you’d think!

There’s just something about False Creek that makes patio dining much more special—case in point, Beach Ave Bar and Grill. This chill spot by the bay will have you adoring rich people’s yachts as you indulge in chicken wings, sandwiches, and various other comfort foods.

However, this is one of those rare places where the drinks outshine the food by a hair, as their selection of cocktails is equal parts creative and refreshing. A prime example of this is their Smoke and Mirrors drink, which features mezcal, aperol, lemon juice and simple syrup!

Don’t let that lead you into thinking that the food here is subpar, however, as it’s quite the opposite! For instance, you can visit here during brunch to get a heaping serving of waffles with chicken or a massive hickory BBQ burger—yum!

Pro tip:

After indulging in your favourite Western dishes, you and your furbaby can burn those recently added calories by strolling along the nearby Vanier Park! It offers a different perspective on False Creek, and it never really gets crowded.

If you’re hanging out with other furparents, then Six Acres should be in your top five choices! Not only does it offer one of the liveliest atmospheres in Vancouver, but it also features delicious dishes for sharing.

One of the best things you can order as a group is their roasted garlic and cheese pizza because of its ultimate “umami-ness”. If you’re not a fan of stretchy cheese, however, we recommend going for the tacos, filled with slow-cooked beef.

Another reason we love Six Acres is its wide selection of wines, including red, white, bubbly, and rosé. Moreover, they offer a wide array of cocktails, among which are classics like Aperol spritz, martini, and margarita.

Pro tip:

Before proceeding with drinks, make sure to treat yourself to a delightful slice of their white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. Meanwhile, you can get your dog their own treat in the form of the restaurant’s slow-cooked beef!

The Cider House is one of the most Instaworthy spots in Vancouver, featuring patios that will welcome your four-legged friends with open arms. As you may have gleaned from its name, this place specialises in various types of ciders—all of which are served on tap and made locally.

They offer different concoctions that cater to individual tastes, but we recommend the strawberry Earl Grey, which is branded as “everyone’s favourite”. It features a refreshing aftertaste and effectively balances the strawberry and tea aspects.

Their dishes aren’t to be ignored, as they feature massive proportions and locally sourced ingredients! Your dogs will enjoy digging their faces into mac and cheese, and burgers—oh, and all of their dishes are vegan-friendly as well!

Pro tip:

Share an order of Andy’s Apple Crumble to treat yourself and your dog to a sweet note after feasting on savoury flavours. This dish features a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of crumbly baked oats and homemade apple filling.

Sometimes it’s nice to reward yourself and your dog with the sea’s best delicacies, and for this need, Provence Marinaside should be at the top of your list. Although it’s not recommended to be a regular inclusion in your dog’s diet, this place’s shrimp and crabs are to die for!

You can also consider treating yourself to a platter of fresh oysters if you’re up for a quick briny seafood fix during brunch. Since these are harvested fresh, all you need to flavour them is their in-house mignonette and freshly-squeezed lime juice!

If you’re visiting with a friend who doesn’t eat seafood, however, don’t worry! Provence Marinaside also offers a meaty spiced lamb burger as well as a delicious beef tenderloin, drenched in peppercorn jus and horseradish mayo.
