Pros

  • Has various professional affiliations
  • Male and female counsellors available
  • Formally trained in various therapy approaches
  • Accepts clients across BC

Cons

  • No in-person appointments

Wellspring Counsellin is a highly experienced counselling service in Vancouver. We were impressed to find that they have notable affiliations, including EDMR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Canada and BCACC (BC Association of Clinical Counsellors).

Another aspect we liked about them is they have a team of male and female counsellors—-they have pretty remarkable qualifications, too! This is a plus for us since it allows clients to choose who they’re most comfortable with.

We’re glad to note that the therapists at Wellspring Counselling are all registered clinical counsellors, showing their specialized training in aiding clients to enhance their mental well-being.

We also admire their ability to handle different issues, such as depression, trauma, anxiety, and grief and loss.

Additionally, their counselling approach specializations left us astonished. Alistair Gordon, who also serves as the director of Wellspring Counselling,

was formally trained in various therapy techniques to treat different mental conditions.

Furthermore, their team utilizes multiple therapy methods to treat various mental conditions, including but not limited to EMDR therapy, which uses specific eye movements to heal from trauma and EFT (Emotion-Focused Therapy) to help control emotions.

Although we really like their accessibility as they’re available every day, we hope they could add in-person appointments in the future. We were a bit bummed to find out that they only have virtual counselling sessions.

Lastly, we think it’s pretty great that their rates are within the average range in Vancouver—$170 for individual counselling and $200 for couples counselling. Oh, they also accept clients across BC, so that’s a plus for accessibility!

Pros

  • Highly accessible
  • Has in-person and online appointments
  • Has a large team
  • Provides low-cost counselling

Cons

  • Some reports of scheduling miscommunications

Skylark Counselling services both Vancouver and Abbotsford, and pretty much anyone outside BC. Add to that their daily availability, and they are highly accessible to many individuals!

We also appreciate their online counselling, a pretty convenient aspect for clients who have busy schedules and cannot make it to their office. Plus, they are also available for in-person and phone counselling sessions—convenient, again!

Their services impressed us, counselling individuals, couples, families, and children. For us, this shows their experience in working with various age ranges.

Furthermore, their expertise areas are vast, including anxiety, body image, and PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder). Notably, they provide support during pregnancy and for post-partum depression, as well as offering counselling for paramedics.

Another aspect worth appreciating is their large team, which is composed of male and female registered counsellors. In our opinion, having many counsellors allows clients to find the one they are most comfortable with.

In addition, they have a graduate intern counsellor available, who is supervised by the counselling team. This offers clients with limited budgets the advantage of booking Skylark Counselling at more affordable rates—starting at only $50.

Unfortunately, we did hear reports about scheduling miscommunication—not a lot, though! Nonetheless, we commend Skylark Counselling for immediately addressing these concerns and showing good customer service.

Pros

  • Has a culturally diverse team
  • Provides in-person and online counselling
  • Offers low-cost counselling

Cons

  • Some counsellors not accepting new clients
  • Closed waitlist for selected counsellors

One of the aspects we really like about Avery Therapy Centre is their wide range of services. Aside from counselling, they offer coaching as well, which we find ideal for those who want to learn how to lead.

Furthermore, their counselling services, located in Downtown Vancouver, are available for individuals, couples, and youth. We like their areas of expertise, counselling anyone going through loss, depression, stress, and anger management problems.

Finding the right counsellor can be challenging, so we appreciate them for having a culturally diverse team. We like that they have a pretty long list of counsellors than other services in Vancouver, allowing clients to select the one they feel most at ease with.

Besides those aspects, they are available for both in-person and virtual counselling—a convenient aspect for us! We were also happy to learn they offer 15-minute complimentary counselling sessions via phone, which we think benefits first-time clients.

Additionally, we were glad about their low-cost counselling through their graduate counsellors who are waiting to become registered! It’s a good option for Vancouverites with tight budgets.

However, we were saddened that some of their counsellors are currently not accepting new clients. Another that bummed us out is some counsellors have closed their waitlist.

On the positive side, Avery Therapy Centre accepts clients any day of the week. Their weekend availability is handy for clients with busy work or school schedules.

Pros

  • Offers nutritional counselling
  • Offers sliding scale rates

Cons

  • Only one nutrition counsellor
  • Some counsellors not accepting new clients

Carmanah Counselling & Integrated Health offers inclusive counselling, embracing individuals from the LGBTQ2S+ community and all nationalities. It’s one of the qualities we admire about them.

They provide a variety of counselling services in Vancouver, including individual, family, and youth counselling. We also applaud them for providing nutritional counselling.

In addition, their guidance on nutrition and eating disorders aids clients in attaining food freedom by prioritizing health gains over weight loss. Their focus on developing a positive relationship with food is really commendable.

Their different areas of expertise are incredible as well, allowing them to cater to different types of clients. This includes neurodiversity, emotion dysregulation, depression, low moods, phobias, and substance use issues.

Although we appreciate their team because they currently have seven counsellors, allowing them to accept more clients, they only have one nutrition counsellor. For us, this is a drawback as they can’t see more clients going through food and health issues.

On a good note, they are open every day. But we did notice their limited scheduling availability—some counsellors are not accepting new clients or currently have a waitlist.

The last thing that we really like is their pricing, which has a pretty reasonable starting cost of  $140 for a 50-minute individual counselling session. Some counsellors also offer sliding scale rates, a good option for low-income individuals.

Pros

  • A certified Sleep Sense consultant
  • Provides consulting services
  • Wide client reach

Cons

  • Limited counsellors available
  • Rates are not readily available

Drive Clinical Counselling and Consulting was founded by Alyssa Marrello, whose previous job as an elementary school teacher led her to find her passion for counselling—an aspect we admire!

Now, she’s now a registered clinical counsellor and a pediatric sleep consultant. However, since she’s a one-woman team, her availability is a little limited.

On a good note, we like her wide client reach, especially since she doesn’t have a large team of counsellors. She caters to individuals from the whole province of BC!

Furthermore, we really like her schedule—she’s available every day. Since one of her focuses is children’s counselling, her clients can meet her during no school days.

Another aspect we admire is her specialization in counselling school-aged children, particularly considering that this is where she discovered her passion for counselling.

Her expertise impressed us as she uses various types of counselling approaches, such as attachment-based therapy, expressive play therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. This variety is pretty incredible, allowing her to work with various clients.

In addition, she’s a certified Sleep Sense consultant who provides solutions to help parents with kids’ sleep problems. It’s quite a unique service compared to other counselling services in Vancouver.

A minor downside we found is the lack of readily available rates. We believe having it available would be helpful for individuals with limited funds—and for transparency, too.
