K Liu Accounting Services Inc. opened in 2008, serving small businesses, corporations, and individuals in Winnipeg. They have expanded to provide services across Canada and internationally, an impressive feat!
Another aspect that impressed us is their knowledge and experience in accounting services for various industries. That includes agriculture, construction, healthcare, beauty, real estate, education, and more!
We were glad they are a one-stop shop for any tax needs. Their services are accounting, bookkeeping, tax preparation, payroll management, and Quickbooks setup and training!
Additionally, they are at the elite level of QuickBooks ProAdvisor, an industry standard for accountants. That also means they can access training, strategic marketing tools, and discounts for clients who want to use Quickbooks!
Convenience is one of our favourite aspects due to their in-office and in-home services. Do keep in mind that their in-home appointments are only available on Saturdays.
But we appreciate they offer virtual services if you happen to be away for the consultation. Most Friday virtual appointments are closed, though.
Furthermore, they offer delivery of paperwork via third-party courier for convenience. You can also opt for drop-offs at their 24/7 drop box location!
Lastly, we were glad to learn that the team at K Liu Accounting Services Inc. provided regular updates and was highly professional. Those are qualities we approve of!

In 1991, Talbot & Associates started off in a home basement. In 1996, they saw the need to grow by moving to an office, and now they have eight branches in Manitoba—and two are in Winnipeg!
They provide free 30-minute call consultations for new clients, offering accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, succession planning, and U.S. tax services!
Their U.S. tax services are impressive and stress-free for U.S. citizens living, working, or studying in Canada. They also file for Canadians living in our neighbouring country.
What we found unique is their bilingual staff. Most speak English and French—Canada’s two official languages!
Additionally, their team of accountants has their own field expertise, from agriculture to IT services. It’s useful because we believe in hiring accountants with high levels of industry knowledge!
In particular, their agriculture accounting team is impressive. They won Acquisition International’s 2022 Leading Providers of Agriculture Accounting Services – Western Canada—that’s nice, eh?
A minor drawback is they don’t offer in-home services. We do hope they could add this in the future for clients unable to visit their office on weekdays.
Sadly, we heard a few complaints about their U.S. tax service being a tad slow. Some clients also had errors in their paperwork, which was disappointing.

A small firm in North Winnipeg that we like is JR Accounting Services. Despite not having a large team, they are experienced in handling taxes for different industries.
We also appreciate that they provide many tax services for individuals, businesses, and organizations. Aside from accounting services, they have bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation and planning, contracts, and consulting and management advice.
Moreover, you can hire them throughout the year instead of choosing per quarter. Tax compliance is important, you know!
Plus, they cater to individuals with dual status and citizenship. They will handle the tax returns, which can sometimes be complicated if you need to file in two countries.
Their accountants are also up-to-date with technology, a quality we approve of! They use Wave, QuickBooks, Sage, and other accounting software.
Their hands-on approach is highly appreciated. The clients we surveyed were happy with the assistance and how friendly and helpful their accountants were.
Moreover, a common compliment about JR Accounting Services we heard is the accountants’ clear and thorough explanations of the process. Even clients who had no idea about accounting and taxes could understand quickly!
However, we were disappointed that they are only open three days a week. They also don’t offer in-home services, so clients will need to be available Wednesday to Friday for an appointment.

McLenehan and Associates CPAs specialize in accounting services for business owners. But they still accept individuals as clients, which we appreciate, of course.
They provide accounting, personal and corporate tax returns, financial statement services, and bookkeeping. Their team of CPAs is highly experienced in different industries, too!
We appreciate the convenience they provide. Clients can drop off their documents at one of their two offices on Portage Avenue and Pembine Highway or send them digitally.
Their approach is impressive as well due to being hands-on. Aside from filing taxes on time, their accountants will also help clients develop their skills.
Furthermore, this is a helpful service because it helps clients understand the tax filing process. It can be difficult for small business owners, so we give them points for assistance!
In addition, they outsource their bookkeeping services to small business owners. We found it helpful since it saves entrepreneurs time and money.
What’s more, McLenehan and Associates CPAs are highly responsive. They could answer every question quickly and clearly, which we think speaks about their industry knowledge.
They don’t offer mobile services, though, which is helpful for busy clients. We also discovered they offer a limited selection of services than other accountants in Winnipeg.

Aside from tax filing, they provide consulting to help businesses grow, corporate finance for mergers and acquisitions, and insolvency to help businesses with financial problems, and they act as First Nation advisors.
They provide GST (goods and services tax) and PST (provincial sales taxes) consulting, where they develop systems that can reduce audit risks for clients.
In addition, they cater to corporations, estates, trusts, and individuals for tax returns. We appreciate this since they primarily serve small and medium-scale businesses.
As we mentioned above, they act as First Nation financial advisors for accounting and financial management, which we admire. They even have a separate team for this—they have four certified Aboriginal finance managers.
A unique aspect of Lazer Grant LLP is not only do they act as accountants but also as advisors to each client. They ensure clients get the support and assistance they need, especially in headache-inducing tax filings!
In fact, their clients have praised them for going above and beyond with their services. Their accountants were readily available and easy to communicate with.
Unfortunately, they don’t offer mobile services for clients on busy schedules. There were also some reports about appointment cancellations for new clients, which we understand can be disappointing.
