Where to Go Camping in Vancouver: 10 Campsites Shouldn’t Miss!

When we were kids, we always dreamed of camping in the woods or by the lake. How fun would it be to roast marshmallows, tell ghost stories, and sleep under the stars? 

Well, guess what? Vancouver has some of the best camping spots that bring those childhood dreams to life. We’re talking about views of beautiful falls and exciting experiences that’ll definitely not resemble those boring camping trips you had when you were a kid. 

It doesn’t really matter that much if you’re a seasoned camper or just looking to escape the city for a weekend. Our favorite camping grounds will have you packing your gear in no time!

Alice Lake Provincial Park

Alice Lake Provincial Park is truly a gem for campers anywhere, and it’s been a favorite ever since we laid foot in it. 

Tucked away just north of Squamish, this spot has everything you need for the perfect camping trip. The campsites are spacious and surrounded by tall, majestic trees, giving you that true forest vibe.

One of the best parts about Alice Lake is, well, Alice Lake! The water is calm and perfect for swimming, kayaking, or just lounging by the shore. 

There are some great hiking trails too, like the Four Lakes Trail, which takes you through beautiful scenery and past several smaller lakes.

Pro Tip:

Bring your bikes! The trails around the park are fantastic for cycling, and you’ll cover more ground while enjoying the stunning views.

Golden Ears Provincial Park is one of those places that just takes your breath away. Located in Maple Ridge, this park is massive and offers a variety of camping experiences, from car camping to backcountry adventures. 

We absolutely loved the Alouette Lake area TOO. The water is perfect for all kinds of water activities, and we spent hours kayaking and paddleboarding. 

Also, the beach area is great for picnics and just soaking up the sun. There are also some amazing hiking trails, like the hike up to the stunning Golden Ears peak.

The park is also teeming with wildlife. We saw everything from deer to eagles, making every hike an exciting adventure. The park rangers are super helpful and can give you tips on the best spots to visit.

Pro Tip:

Try the Lower Falls Trail. It’s an easy hike that leads to a beautiful waterfall, perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot day.

Porteau Cove Provincial Park

If you’re looking for a camping spot with incredible ocean views, Porteau Cove Provincial Park is the place to be. 

Just a short drive from Vancouver along the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway, this park offers campsites right by the water. Waking up to the sound of the waves and a view of the mountains is simply unbeatable.

Porteau Cove is a diver’s paradise—believe us, we just saw a completely different marine ecosystem down there. 

We brought our snorkeling gear and explored the underwater reefs and sunken ships. Even if you’re not into diving, the tide pools are fun to explore, and you might spot some interesting marine life.

The sunsets here are something else too. We especially loved ending our days sitting by the campfire, watching the sky turn vibrant shades of orange and pink. 

Pro Tip:

Bring your binoculars. The park is a great spot for birdwatching, especially during migration seasons when you can see a variety of seabirds.

Garibaldi Provincial Park

Garibaldi Provincial Park is a must-visit for anyone who loves mountain adventures. This park is known for its stunning alpine scenery, crystal-clear lakes, and challenging hiking trails. 

The campsites here are more rustic, perfect for those who really want to immerse themselves in nature.

The hike to Garibaldi Lake is one of our favorites as well. It’s a bit of a climb, but the view of the turquoise lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks is absolutely worth it. 

There are plenty of other trails too, like the Black Tusk and Panorama Ridge, for those looking for a more strenuous hike.

Camping here is all about embracing the wilderness. The sites are basic but situated in such beautiful locations that you won’t mind the lack of amenities. 

Pro Tip:

Pack light but bring warm clothes. The weather can change quickly in the mountains, and it gets chilly at night, even in summer.

Cultus Lake Provincial Park

Cultus Lake Provincial Park is the perfect blend of fun and relaxation. Located near Chilliwack, this park is popular for its warm waters and sandy beaches. The campsites are well-spaced and offer a good mix of sun and shade, ideal for a comfortable stay.

The lake is the main attraction here, and for good reason. We spent our days swimming, kayaking, and just floating around on inflatable rafts. 

There’s also a great water park nearby if you’re looking for some extra excitement. The park has several hiking trails that offer beautiful views of the lake and surrounding forest.

Evenings at Cultus Lake are lively and enjoyable. We adored the family-friendly atmosphere, with kids playing and adults relaxing by their fires. Also, the facilities are excellent, with clean restrooms and hot showers.

Pro Tip:

Rent a paddleboard or kayak. The lake is calm and perfect for exploring at your own pace, and it’s a great way to enjoy the serene beauty of the area.

Mount Seymour Provincial Park

Mount Seymour Provincial Park is an absolute treasure for outdoor enthusiasts. Located just a short drive from Vancouver, it offers a perfect mix of adventure and tranquility. The campsites are nestled among towering trees, giving you that cozy, secluded feel.

The hiking trails here are spectacular. We tackled the Mystery Lake Trail, which rewards you with a stunning alpine lake perfect for a refreshing swim. 

If you’re looking for a bit more challenge, the Mount Seymour Summit Trail offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and city below.

Winter camping here is also fantastic. If you’re into snowshoeing or skiing, Mount Seymour transforms into a winter wonderland. 

Pro Tip:

Check out the First Pump Peak Trail. It’s a moderate hike that offers incredible views without being too strenuous, making it perfect for a day hike.

Sasquatch Provincial Park

Sasquatch Provincial Park is a hidden gem that we can’t recommend enough. Located near Harrison Hot Springs, this park is all about natural beauty and outdoor fun. The campsites are spacious and surrounded by lush forest, giving you a true sense of escape.

Hicks Lake is the highlight here. We spent our days kayaking and swimming in its clear, calm waters. There’s also great fishing if you’re into that—we caught a few trout that made for an amazing dinner. 

Evenings are especially serene and peaceful. The quiet, star-filled nights and the sense of being far away from the hustle and bustle is the cherry on top of it all. The park also has some great picnic spots and day-use areas if you’re just visiting for the day.

Pro Tip:

Bring your fishing gear. Hicks Lake is known for its good fishing, and catching your own dinner is a rewarding experience.

Cypress Provincial Park

Cypress Provincial Park is a fantastic spot if you’re looking for some high-altitude camping close to the city. Located in West Vancouver, this park offers incredible views and a variety of outdoor activities. 

We particularly loved the viewpoints along the Baden-Powell Trail. The hike to Eagle Bluff offers stunning vistas of Howe Sound and the surrounding mountains. 

In the winter, Cypress is a go-to spot for skiing and snowboarding, making it a year-round destination.

The park’s close proximity to Vancouver means you can easily make a day trip out of it, but staying overnight gives you the chance to enjoy the tranquility after the day-trippers leave. 

Pro Tip:

Don’t miss the Yew Lake Trail. It’s an easy, accessible loop with beautiful scenery and plenty of spots to sit and take in the views.

Pacific Spirit Regional Park

Pacific Spirit Regional Park is a unique camping experience right within the city limits of Vancouver. This park is all about immersing yourself in nature without having to travel far. 

The campsites are surrounded by dense forest, giving you a peaceful retreat amidst the urban environment.

What we loved most about Pacific Spirit is its extensive network of trails. You can spend hours exploring the lush forest, discovering hidden streams and enjoying the diverse flora and fauna. 

The park is also a great place for birdwatching. We saw a variety of birds and other wildlife, which made our walks even more enjoyable. 

Despite being so close to the city, the park feels surprisingly remote and offers a perfect escape from the daily grind.

Pro Tip:

Bring a picnic. There are several lovely spots along the trails where you can stop and enjoy a meal surrounded by nature.

Lighthouse Park

Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver is a must-visit for anyone who loves stunning coastal scenery. 

This park is famous for its rugged cliffs, picturesque lighthouse, and beautiful ocean views. The campsites are basic but offer incredible access to the park’s best features.

We spent our days exploring the many trails that wind through the park. The views from the lighthouse and along the shore are breathtaking, especially at sunset. There are plenty of rocky outcrops perfect for sitting and taking in the scenery or enjoying a quiet picnic.

The tide pools at Lighthouse Park are also a highlight. We were excited exploring these little ecosystems, spotting starfish, crabs, and other marine life. It’s a fun and educational experience that adds to the park’s charm.

Pro Tip:

Visit at low tide. The tide pools are teeming with life and much easier to explore when the water is out, offering a closer look at the fascinating marine creatures.
