15 Cool Free Birthday Stuff in Toronto For You (And How to Get ‘Em!)
It’s your birthday! Time to get up, suit up, and wander all over Toronto to collect your birthday gifts! And no, we’re not going over to family and friends—shops are actually going to give us free things!
Who could say no to freebies, especially in today’s economy? You don’t have to spend a loonie on your birthday because we’re sharing all the good stuff—it’s sort of like our birthday present for you (and it’s free too!).
Here are our favourite stops to get free stuff on our birthdays in Toronto, from food to drinks to beauty products!
Tim Hortons

A Canadian favourite, Tim Hortons, offers a free birthday item as long as you’re a Tims Rewards Program member. You can get a free yummy donut or pastry on your birthday!
First, you need to download the Tims app on your phone and sign up at least seven days before your birthday. Next, make a transaction during a twelve-month period prior to your birthday.
You can only get your freebie starting at 8 am two days before your birthday, which ends at the same time the day after.
Pro Tip:
Avoid peak hours when visiting Tim Hortons for your birthday freebie. And if there’s a specific item you want, you can check the store that has it in stock, or you can go to the biggest Tims in your area, so you have many choices.
Denny’s

Celebrate your birthday with a free breakfast at Denny’s! You actually get a Build Your Own Grand Slam at your local diner, which means you get a full meal!
To redeem your free birthday food, just show a valid picture ID (one with your birthdate on it). This offer is available for dine-in only, so bring your friends (but they’ll have to pay for theirs).
You can pick four items from any of the following: bacon strips, turkey bacon strips, sausage links, eggs, egg whites, buttermilk pancakes, toast slices, English muffin (gluten-free is available), hash browns, and oatmeal.
Pro Tip:
If you want oatmeal on your free birthday breakfast, go anytime between 6 am to 2 pm. Otherwise, it won’t be available on the menu.
Starbucks

Sign up to become a Starbucks Rewards member and get a free birthday item. You must join at least seven days before your birthday with at least one star-earning transaction before your birthday every year.
You can choose one of the three: a handcrafted beverage, a food item, or a ready-to-drink bottled beverage. You need the mobile app or your Starbucks card since the barista will scan it for your birthday treat.
Pro Tip:
Don’t forget to provide your birthday information when signing up for Starbucks Rewards. Birthday offers are optional, so remember to add your birthday.
Impact Kitchen

To get a free smoothie from Impact Kitchen on your birthday, download the app on your phone and sign up for the Impact Loyalty Program. Plus, you can access limited time offers.
On the app, click “Use Rewards” at checkout and select your birthday reward. You can pick one of the following smoothie options: Endurance, Power Green, Easy Green, Oasis, Lift, and Restore.
Pro Tip:
Before getting your birthday smoothie, check the ingredients because some have nuts and common allergens.

You can get your beauty freebie by showing the staff your registered Beauty Insider email address. But if you want to get it online, you need to purchase a minimum of $25 (better drop by the store!).
There are different kinds of freebies, which you can check out on the Beauty Insider page. The availability varies per location.

Chatime

You get a free birthday gift (it’s bubble tea!) from Chatime when you register for their rewards program, Societea. You can download it on your mobile phone.
The silver membership (the one you get once you join) gives you a free birthday drink. Meanwhile, Gold members (with a requirement of $400 of spending per year) get a free birthday drink and food or merchandise credit.
You must sign up at least seven days before your birth date. You can redeem your gift as early as seven days before your birthday until seven days after.
Pro Tip:
Remember that you need to spend at least $2.50 after signing up to be eligible for the birthday gift. If you don’t make this purchase, the birthday voucher will not show up on the app.
Baskin-Robbins

If you love ice cream, go to Baskin Robbins to get a birthday coupon. You do need to purchase either a 2.5 oz scoop or a 3 oz soft serve cone first to avail the second one for free.
You need to sign up for the Baskin-Robbins Club 31 on the website. They will email you the coupon, which will remain valid five days before and five days after your birthday.
Then, you just need to show the email to the staff, along with a valid photo ID that shows your date of birth.
Pro Tip:
Remember to print the entire email showing you can avail of the birthday coupon.
South St. Burger

Remember to join at least 72 hours before your actual birthday. The coupon will be emailed to you on the morning of your birthday, which you can redeem for up to 14 days for dine-in or pick-up.
Pro Tip:
When redeeming your birthday coupon, don’t forget to bring a valid ID. Also, make sure you check your spam folder because the email might get lost in there.
