They say lavender speaks love and tranquillity. Frankly, I have to agree. Lavender farms are one of my favourite places to visit in the summer—there’s something so serene about strolling through purple fields.

If you’re searching for a scenic destination away from the hustle and bustle of city life, lavender farms in Ontario are just a drive away. Bring your family or friends and appreciate what nature has to offer.

So grab your keys! It’s time to surround yourself with rows and rows of purple blooms that will delight your senses.

Lavender Polo Farm

Lavender Polo Farm, sprawling 155 acres, currently stands as Ontario’s biggest lavender farm. It houses 100,000 English and Spanish lavenders, including different varieties like the Phenomenal Lavender and the Melissa Lilac Lavender.

Book their mini photography session and print those memories. This package includes a professional photographer, a photographer’s assistant, props, and ticket access.

You can opt for a luxury picnic, which includes snacks, drinks, and a picnic setup. Perfect for a romantic date or, perhaps, a proposal?

Pro Tip:

Book your entrance tickets online to save money. Walk-in tickets are $3 more expensive than online rates.

South Bay Fields Lavender Farm

This 18-acre farm south of Collingwood is home to over 5,000 lavender plants with eight different varieties. It’s the ultimate family day trip in Ontario if you’re itching for some beautiful outdoor experience.

Right in the middle of the lavender field, there are garden bench swings and chairs to relax on as you take a break strolling the farm. Besides lavender, you will also see poppies, wildflowers, and sunflowers.

Bring the whole family (including your furry friend) for a picnic in the grassy areas. They do have free range chickens, so they might say hi while you’re munching on snacks.

Pro Tips:

If you want to see the sunflowers bloom, try your luck visiting mid-July. But they’re pretty unpredictable, so don’t expect they’ll bloom around your visit.

Plan a day trip to Collingwood if you’re visiting South Bay Fields Lavender Farm. It’s super close to shops and attractions.

Deep Purple Lavender Farm

Tucked away in the Village of Embro, Deep Purple Lavender Farm grows over ten different kinds of English and French cultivars. There are now more than 3,000 lavender plants you can check out.

This is not just a lavender field but also a bee farm, so don’t be shocked to find a bee or two saying hi to you. You may even catch a glimpse of the farm animals and their very own dog, Macy.

Since there’s no admission fee, you can show your support by checking out their shop. You can purchase a variety of lavender products, like essential oils, lip balms, and bath salts.

Pro Tips:

Keep an eye out for events. They sometimes host yoga classes in the lavender field.
Google Maps doesn’t exactly pin the entrance to the farm. Look out for the Purple Lavender Barn quilt to find the entrance.

Hereward Farms

Hereward Farms is a picturesque setting for family day trips. It’s only an hour and a half’s drive from Toronto, a quick escape from the bustling city life.

During your stroll at this massive 250-acre farm, you’ll find the fields are filled with more than 6,000 lavender plants and over 400,000 sunflowers. For the perfect family event, you can pick your own lavender plants and sunflowers.

But since pick-your-own is available for a limited time, you can drop by the Lavender Lounge + Boutique instead. Shop natural and 100% Canadian-made products made from ingredients harvested on the farm, like lip balms, cleansers, and oils.

They are also open to photoshoots and events, perfect for weddings, bridal showers, and wellness retreats (wellness retreat ontario).

Pro Tips:

If you’re coming for pick-your-own lavender plants, call before driving there to ensure they’re open. This event is weather-dependent and may also be closed depending on availability.

You don’t have to wait for the summer months to visit the Lavender Lounge + Boutique. It’s open year-round from Wednesday to Saturday.

Kelso Lavender

The idyllic Kelso Lavender farm has over 25,000 lavender plants with five different varieties. This relaxing place is only an hour’s drive from Toronto, perfect if you’re itching for a quick trip from the city.

The purple fields are a stunning and picturesque setting for photoshoots. There’s a flower arch in front of the field, chairs, and a piano right in the middle of the lavender plants for that stunning visual setting.

You can take home various lavender-made products from the shop. The best thing you can purchase is the cut-your-own lavender to bring home your own picked pretty plants.

Pro Tips:

Book an entrance ticket online to save some money—tickets at the gate are pricier and have an additional $2 or $4 more than online bookings. Walk-ins do not guarantee admission as well because only a limited number of guests are accepted.

Cut-your-own lavender is only available for purchase on-site. You can buy it at the shop, so check it out before strolling through the fields.

Prince Edward County Lavender Farm

Tucked away in Hillier, Prince Edward County Lavender Farm is a sensory delight with different varieties of lavender plants that will show you different scents and colours.

A leisurely walk on the farm is not where it ends. They host afternoon teas or you can stay at the Bed and Breakfast located in the middle of the purple field!

You’ll be staying in one of the three rooms in the house, which dates back in 1835. The charming place has air-conditioned rooms, and your stay includes a buffet breakfast.

Pro Tip:

If you’re travelling with kids, better book a room in a different lodging. The B&B at this lavender farm is for adults only. 

Erin Hill Acres Lavender Farm

For families searching for more than a stroll at a lavender field, Erin Hill Acres is a must-visit. You can take a leisurely walk with kids and even cut your own lavender plant to bring home—a perfect summer activity!

You can enjoy a variety of activities here. Watch the jolly highlands cows munching on grass, or have a picnic under the sun at The Courtyard Cafe for a taste of their famous wood-fired pizza.

In months when lavender doesn’t bloom, you can still visit for the cut-you-own-stem-sunflowers and musical events. Maybe catch Shania Twin perform—you read that right, it’s Twin, not Twain.

Bonnieheath Estate Lavender & Winery

Norfolk County is the destination for wine and lavender plant picking. And here, you’ll find Bonnieheath Estate Lavender & Winery, which is not your typical lavender farm. This is also a winery where you can sip lavender-infused wine!

From June to October, you can book a pick-your-own lavender, as different kinds bloom each month. Keep in mind there may be limited availability since lavender blooms the most in July and August.

You can stay for a weekend retreat because they have two lodging choices: the Farmhouse for families and the Cellar Suite for couples. While you’re there, you can book a ticket for a rustic picnic setup, have a photoshoot, and join paint night sessions.

Pro Tips:

There are no entrance fees in winter and spring. While there’s no lavender picking during these seasons, they still offer lavender drinks and products.

If you’re bringing your dog, ask for the designated areas where pets are welcome. They’re not allowed in the lavender fields and the vineyard.

Apple Hill Lavender Farm spans 50 acres of land in Norfolk County. This farm has been named one of Norfolk’s Amazing Places by Long Point Biosphere, a sustainable tourism initiative with a focus on celebrating the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation.

At this sustainable farm, you can tour the lavender fields and watch the sunset. You can even have a little picnic or take photographs at their famous red chairs or book this as a venue for your yoga class.

Don’t miss out on their Carriage House Boutique! Check out a variety of products, like lavender essential oils, crafted from herbs and apples grown directly on their farm.

Oh, and you can bring your dog–just keep ‘em on a leash!
