Pros
- Specialises in real estate law
- Services residential and commercial clients
- Expertise in Corporate & Commercial Law
Cons
- Higher fees
- Instances of refusal to continue to represent some clients
First on our list is Clark & Clark Lawyers. It’s a smaller firm specialising in residential and commercial real estate services.
Clint R. Clark, one of the founding members, has been practising law since 1989. He specialises in Real Estate Conveyancing Law, Wills and Estate Planning, and Corporate and Commercial Law.
He’s a member of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA). Furthermore, he actively participates in the CBA’s Southern Alberta Real Property subsection and Wills and Estate subsection.
We appreciate that Clark & Clark’s team ensures a smooth transaction for the clients. They will personally work with your realtor to make sure no problem arises during the whole process.
Many past clients we spoke to appreciate his excellent communication skills and responsiveness. He and his team were quick regarding updates through calls and e-mails.
Another great thing is he also provides services in buying, selling, and refinancing residential and commercial properties. To add, he’s also experienced in residential development properties.
Since not all transactions can go smoothly, Clark willingly offers suggestions and advice regarding your rights. We like his approach because it ensures you are well-prepared and will not be conned into a wrong arrangement.
Another thing we appreciate is the online fees calculator, which can automatically estimate the fees you need to pay. Although that seems excellent, some clients told us they charge a tad higher prices.
Now, while all seems fine and dandy, we heard instances of the firm’s refusal to continue representing some clients due to not receiving mortgage instructions from the bank.
Unfortunately, this led to some clients being without representation for several days. Afterwards, some clients and their realtors had stressful final transaction days, so we hope they can improve on this aspect.

Pros
- Convenient office location
- 2019 Consumer Choice Award winner
- Specialises in real estate law
- Flat-rate fees
Cons
- Lack of available estimated fees
- Closes a tad earlier on Fridays
A boutique law firm, Shuvji Law, specialises in all areas of residential real estate law. Their office has a convenient location outside the downtown core, giving easy transportation access when you need to visit for appointments.
The firm was recognised in service when it won the Consumer Choice Award in 2019. We believe this can add trust to potential clients because the result was through consumer evaluation.
Farouk Shivji was an articling student and associate at Sinclair and Fair LLP in 2011. He is also a CBA member.
We appreciate that Shivji and his team will assist you with real estate needs from start to finish. We also like his vast knowledge of Alberta legislation regarding purchasing newly developed condominiums.
As for payments, he charges flat-rate legal fees. We like this because property transactions can become costly over time, so this assures you that there are no hidden or surprise fees.
However, we would still like to see an estimate quote or available financing options. We believe this can significantly help potential clients regarding their budget.
Shivji claims to provide a high standard of involvement throughout the whole process. We’re happy to hear this was proven true because past clients praised the constant updates.
Additionally, many appreciated the level of professionalism and assurance when there were unexpected issues. We believe these are great qualities in a lawyer since property deals can sometimes be stressful.
Finally, you might need to get off work earlier for appointments because they close a tad earlier on Fridays. On a positive note, their office has access to free parking.

Pros
- Specialises in real estate law
- Wide variety of services
- Team is professional and efficient
Cons
- Lack of readily available estimates
- Lack of lawyers’ information
Urban Law Group focuses primarily on real estate law. Despite having a smaller team of lawyers, they have a combined experience of over 40 years.
We like that aside from real estate law, they also specialise in estate law. We believe this is an excellent option for clients having issues with property assets.
Their services include comprehensive assistance in small and large real estate transactions. They also do refinancing and notary services.
Zachary Shlah, lawyer and owner of Urban Law Group, started his practice in 2013. He was born and raised in Calgary, giving him extensive knowledge in the area.
However, we noticed a lack of listed achievements on the website. Clients will usually check the lawyer’s qualifications before contacting them, which is why we think they can add these for transparency.
The clients we surveyed highly appreciated Shlah and his team’s knowledge and efficiency. In addition, the reception was friendly and approachable, ensuring that clients would feel safe regarding property transactions.
Additionally, purchasing and selling homes can be a taxing experience. We like that Shlah showed efficiency and professionalism, ensuring a smooth transaction.
On the downside, we would like to see readily available estimated fees since we believe this will be advantageous for potential clients.
On another note, Urban Law Group has had several clients who repeatedly hired their services. We think this adds confidence for potential clients in the future since many people trust their expertise.

Sean V. Green graduated from the University of Calgary, where he earned his Juris Doctor. He was an articling student at Bennett Jones LLP, after which he decided to focus on commercial real estate.
He specialises in residential and commercial real estate. To add, he also handles wills and estate cases.
We’re glad Summit Legal Group has a wide range of services besides real estate law. We believe this will be highly advantageous for clients who need to hop from one service to another.
We appreciate that they offer a no-obligation consultation. In addition, scheduling an appointment is quick and easy through e-mail.
Additionally, we’re glad they offer flat rate fees. Just remember that this doesn’t cover all services.
Moreover, we hope they can add the list of services for flat-rate fees. We think this will add convenience to their clients.
As for the transaction process, we’re glad Green and his team provided detailed explanations about the case to their clients. We think this is great, especially for new homeowners who lack experience in real estate.
Furthermore, they give prompt service, ensuring flawless transactions. We heard they were professional and accommodating despite unforeseen circumstances.

Pros
- Over 30 years of experience
- Reasonable fees
- Personable attitude
- Provides prompt service
Cons
- Small team
- Lack of available pricing methods
A boutique law firm, Taylor Law, has over 30 years of experience providing legal services to Calgary residents. They focus on real estate law and estate planning.
We especially like the specialisation in estate planning, which give homeowners a chance to hire one lawyer for property concerns.
Tom Taylor is the lawyer handling all services. He graduated from Dalhousie University in 1988 and received his license to practice in 1989.
Additionally, he is a member of the CBA and the Law Society of Alberta. With his vast experience, we think clients can feel reassured that he has the proper knowledge and skills.
We were happy to know that many clients liked their quality of service. Taylor was highly knowledgeable and professional.
Moreover, he showed genuine interest in the client’s concerns. His former clients told us that consultations felt like talking to a close friend, which we think speaks highly about his personable attitude.
The clients we surveyed also appreciated the reasonable fees, especially with real estate transactions that can sometimes show complexities.
But, a drawback is there are no readily available estimated fees. There are also no available financing options for potential clients to look into.
We want to mention that they have a small team. Therefore, we think hiring them during busy times might not be easy.
But despite that, they manage to provide prompt service, ensuring their clients a smooth process.
