Pros

  • Services Edmonton, Calgary, and Halifax

  • Provides meal plan services
  • Has many price points
  • Known for caring approach

Cons

  • No in-person sessions
  • No physical location

Looking for a dietitian can be overwhelming if you’re unsure of what you need. That’s why we were happy to have come across Serena Benali of In Good Nutrition.

Benali is a registered dietitian who established In Good Nutrition in 2019. Apart from Edmonton, we appreciate that Calgary and Halifax residents can hire her, too.

She offers a wide range of services, which is helpful for those still trying to figure out what they need. It also allows her to meet with a vast clientele.

We were also glad to hear that Benali offers free consultations. Although this is only for a short time (15 minutes), we still appreciate this because not many dietitians offer free initial consultations.

One of her services that our team liked is the À La Carte booking. This is a per-session service, which lets the client hire her on their own time, and a contract does not lock them in.

But the service that made an impression on us is the Binge Eating Program. This will go on for 12 weeks, and Benali will help her clients have a healthy relationship with food.

Another service that my team members were considering getting is the Meal Plan. Here, the dietitian will custom-make a meal plan for the client while considering their dietary restrictions.

Moreover, the clients we conversed with liked her yummy (and healthy) meal plans! Plus, we were happy about her professional and caring approach – two of the qualities we looked for in a dietitian.

Additionally, her services have many price points. For us, this is extremely helpful because not all people can afford expensive nutritional services (especially nowadays!).

Sadly, In Good Nutrition doesn’t have a physical office. Benali only accepts virtual sessions, which is unfortunate for clients who prefer in-person consultations.

Pros

  • A certified personal trainer
  • Has vast experience in health and fitness
  • Offers fitness training programs
  • Has an inspirational approach

Cons

  • No physical location
  • Unavailable on Mondays
  • No easy booking process

What impressed us about Hannah Deacon is that aside from being a registered dietitian, she’s also a certified personal trainer. Our team found this an advantage because we believe that nutrition and exercise go hand in hand.

We were happy to find out about Deacon’s education in nutrition. She graduated and completed her internship focused on health and food safety.

She established Hannah Deacon Dietitian over five years ago. But before that, she had many experiences in food and health, even teaching at the Edmonton General Hospital.

One of our favourite things about her is her commitment to the industry. She even posts regularly on social media to motivate people (not just her clients!) to eat healthily (not gonna lie, we followed her already).

Furthermore, she posts her recipes, too. For us, this speaks volumes about her focus on helping people eat healthy food.

We also like that she has a wide variety of services, such as counselling, weight loss programs, and customized packages. Besides that, she also has training services for a safe exercise routine!

However, we did notice that she doesn’t have an easy booking process.

Since she doesn’t have a physical location, this can be a tad inconvenient for some.

We also hope she can include all her services on her website. Currently, clients need to email her and wait for her reply. Plus, she’s closed on Monday, so that limits her availability.

On the positive side, many clients liked her inspirational approach. They liked Deacon’s genuine concern, which helped them focus on their health and fitness journey.

Pros

  • Worked as a physical trainer
  • Has various price points
  • Easy to book programs

Cons

  • No available contact details
  • Online appointments only

Our team decided to include Brianna Meghawache in our list because of her background working in hospitals, giving her knowledge in helping clients with food-related conditions.

Apart from that, we were impressed to learn that she worked as a personal trainer. In our opinion, this shows her knowledge of exercise as well.

Another aspect our team liked is her experience working with different types of people, regardless of age and illness. The advantage of this is she can reach more clients.

Additionally, she has a program called NourishMNT. Our team found this service admirable because it focuses on behaviour changes so people can have a healthy relationship with food.

Other than that, she also has a 7-day reset program for clients who want to take that step to healthy eating habits. Honestly, our team liked this because it didn’t feel stressful to start.

It’s easy to book her programs, too. The rates are on her website (with different price points), and people can quickly pay once they’re ready to hire a dietitian in Edmonton.

However, she doesn’t have readily available contact details. We found that using the online form meant waiting until she started her work day. Our team was baffled because, at first, we weren’t sure how to contact her.

She also only accepts online appointments. So, there’s no physical office clients can go to.

On a good note, many of her clients have been successful in their health journey due to Meghawache’s knowledge and helpfulness. They even complimented their dietitian for helping them have a healthy relationship with food.

Pros

  • Has a fitness advisor
  • Focuses on nutrition and fitness
  • Works with picky eaters
  • Offers a testing metrics session

Cons

  • No physical office in Edmonton
  • Dietitian only offers visual sessions

Eatuitive Nutrition made an impression on us because it focuses on nutrition and fitness, ensuring a healthy combination for better results. Aside from a registered dietitian, it also has a fitness advisor!

Chelsea Verbeek, Eatuitive Nutrition’s registered dietitian, has a huge background in nutrition. It started when she was still a teenager, which shows her passion for the industry.

One of her specialty areas is helping children who are picky eaters. This is not a standard service we saw in dietitians in Edmonton, so we were stoked to hear about this.

Moreover, we found it impressive that she can also work with kids despite usually working with adults. We were also glad that she could ensure kids get proper nutrition despite being fussy about the taste and texture of their food.

Another advantage of the Eatuitive Nutrition team compared to other dietitians is their on-site office in Calgary. But the downside is they don’t have one in Edmonton.

In addition to that, they have a comprehensive initial session like the in-person testing metrics session. The team will check the client’s metabolism and body composition so the dietitian can provide the right meal plan and program.

Frankly, our team really liked this service because each person’s body works differently. We were also glad about the thorough consultation when hiring this company.

However, the in-person session only applies to their Calgary office. If you’re from Edmonton, you need to get on their waitlist first.

Sadly, Verbeek only does virtual sessions right now. But we’re hoping she can do in-person sessions in Edmonton in the future.

Pros

  • Has a vast professional background
  • Has an easy booking process
  • Works with families
  • Known for positive approach

Cons

  • No free consultation
  • Office is in Sherwood Park

The main thing that made us notice Philosophy Wellness Inc.’s Jessica Hess is her background. Aside from being a registered dietitian, she’s also a certified personal trainer and a registered massage therapist (Whew! That’s a lot of professional experience!).

After graduating in 2002 with a degree in Food & Nutritional Sciences, she started her work in sports nutrition. This shows her years of nutrition experience, which definitely caught our attention.

Our team was happy when we found out that she doesn’t do restrictive eating. Some of us have had restrictive eating problems that didn’t help our body’s nutritional needs.

That’s why we definitely appreciate Hess and her positive approach to food. To add, she ensures that her clients will still enjoy food instead of looking at it as an enemy.

Furthermore, one of her services is family nutrition. She works with families to ensure parents have the right and safe strategy to introduce nutrition and solid foods to their kids.

Another impressive thing is we heard some clients were blown away by her positive approach to food. They even said they felt comfortable talking to her about their struggles with food.

We just hope she can add a free consultation for clients who want to check her approach before committing to her services. Even a short meeting would be useful, in our opinion.

Also, she only does virtual consultations because her office is in Sherwood Park. Currently, she only accepts a limited service for an in-person session.

On a good note, she has an easy booking process. The rates and time are readily available, which our team found extremely helpful!
