The Top 5 Dermatologists in Toronto

Qualifications - We selected dermatologists in Toronto with stellar credentials, training, and experience in the industry.

Services - We looked into the scope of dermatology services offered to cater to many clients, as well as checked the clinic’s cleanliness.

Accessibility - We picked dermatologists who are available most of the week, have accessible clinics for commuters, and have good communication styles.

Value for money - Dermatology services will have different pricing, so we based this on value for money through service quality and results.

Our skin is our first line of defence against, well… everything! But being our armour doesn’t mean it’s invincible from bacteria, allergies, and genetics.

We sometimes need to give our skin a boost of support, and dermatologists are exactly who we need to call. Sure, they don’t have capes, but they can diagnose and treat various skin conditions, even those we cannot see from the mirror.

If you’re noticing a rash or a lesion or just want your skin in tip-top shape, we’ve got the lowdown on Toronto’s best dermatologists who are ready to serve you. Check our top picks!

Pros

  • Founder of FCP Dermatology
  • Board-certified in Canada and the US
  • Featured by several media outlets
  • Clinic is commuter-friendly
  • Uses advanced technology

Cons

  • Clinic is closed on weekends

Dr. Kristy Bailey is one of our favourite dermatologists in Toronto because of her impressive qualifications and track record. She founded FCP Dermatology and is board-certified in both Canada and the US.

She received her medical degree at the University of Ottawa and proceeded to finish her residency at the competitive University of Toronto Dermatology Residency Program. Her training background in New York, Los Angeles, and Italy is even more incredible!

It’s also her specialization that caught our attention because of the variety! Besides minimally invasive procedures like dermal fillers, she’s also highly experienced in blepharoplasty and removing benign lesions.

We aren’t surprised that Dr. Bailey has been featured by various media outlets, such as BNN Bloomberg, BNS News, CP24, and City News Toronto. Being featured by these trusted outlets shows her knowledge and experience, no?

We also like that her clinic, FCP Dermatology, is accessible on King Street, with parking and subway stations nearby.

Additionally, we appreciate that the clinic is always spotless. It’s nice to know they keep the area and their equipment well-maintained—and the place feels luxurious, too. It was disappointing, however, that they’re closed on weekends.

Lastly, we think it’s worth highlighting that Dr. Bailey uses advanced technology at her clinic. It’s important for us that the dermatologists you go to are updated on dermatological advancements.

Pros

  • Won several awards
  • Featured by several media outlets
  • Pursues continuing education
  • Founder of DermAtelier on Avenue
  • Clinic has a wide range of services

Cons

  • Clinic closed on weekends

One of our go-to dermatologists in Toronto is Dr. Renée Beach because of her achievements. She’s won several awards, which shows her skills in the dermatology field.

Some of these are from the University of Toronto, including the 2022 Faculty of Medicine – MD Program Teaching Award for Excellence and the 2020 Arbor Award. That’s not all we’re impressed by.

We admire Dr. Beach for continuing to expand her knowledge of dermatology through collaborating with her colleagues for various peer-reviewed publications. She also taught at the University of Toronto as an undergraduate lecturer—stellar resume!

Aside from those, we were impressed again because various media outlets have invited her for her extensive knowledge of dermatology. These include Globe and Mail, National Post, and CP24 Breakfast.

From our client surveys, Dr. Beach has proven to be an excellent dermatologist due to her professionalism and attentiveness. Her clients appreciated Dr. Beach’s warm demeanour, making them comfortable talking about their skin concerns.

Impressively, she’s also the founder of DermAtelier on Avenue, a clinic that provides medical and cosmetic treatments. We love the wide variety of services, from skin screening to laser treatments.

Finally, we want to praise the clinic’s modern and clean interior. And while we like how accessible the clinic is, they’re unavailable for weekend appointments.

Pros

  • Board-certified in Canada and the US
  • Updated with the latest advancements
  • Accepts Saturday appointments
  • Clinic offers plenty of privacy
  • Equipment is serviced regularly

Cons

  • Has a long waitlist

A great dermatologist in Toronto we like is Dr. Rachel Ruppel, who is board-certified in Canada and the US. But before that, she graduated from the University of Ottawa and finished her residency at the University of Toronto.

Furthermore, we found it impressive that during her studies, she received multiple scholarships and awards. And even now, she continues to educate herself to keep up with the latest advancements in dermatology.

We also like that she has contributed her knowledge through various medical journals and is a regular guest at several academic conferences, even internationally! That’s a really great achievement!

As for her specialization, she focuses on skin tightening and laser hair removals. But we commend her for also being experienced in diagnosing and treating many skin issues.

From our surveys, Dr. Ruppel’s clients absolutely loved her welcoming demeanour. Some have also expressed their happiness about the results of their procedures.

The clinic she works at, Kingsway Dermatology and Cosmetic Centre, is one of our favourites because of its modern and clean design. It’s so big at 6,000 sq ft, with many rooms, including ones aimed at patient recovery, and has a private entrance and exit!

But one of the best parts is the clinic’s well-maintained equipment. They use advanced technology that’s serviced regularly to make sure every procedure is safe and efficient.

In addition to that, we like how Kingsway’s availability is convenient. Unlike other Toronto clinics, they accept Saturday procedures on an appointment basis!

That said, there’s quite a long waitlist for an appointment. You may need to wait weeks or months to see Dr. Ruppel or any of the Kingsway clinic dermatologists.

Pros

  • One of Canada’s first users of injectable botox
  • Co-director of Mohs Skin Cancer Clinic
  • Featured by media outlets
  • Clinic is located downtown

Cons

  • Busy clinic; has a waitlist
  • No weekend appointments

Dr. Nowell Solish was one of the first cosmetic dermatologists in Canada to use injectable Botox—and that’s why he’s one of our top picks of dermatologists in Toronto. But there are other reasons too!

His experience is something we were impressed with as well. He graduated from the University of Toronto and went on to become an assistant professor there.

On top of that, Dr. Solish is a co-director of the Women’s College Hospital’s Mohs Skin Cancer Clinic and one of the founding board members of the International Hyperhidrosis Society. Call us impressed!

Due to these credentials, trusted media outlets, such as Global Television and The National, have asked him several times to talk about dermatology. For us, these qualifications are impeccable.

It’s worth noting that Dr. Solish specializes in injectables, body sculpting, skin tightening, and laser lesion removal. It’s nice that you can go to a clinic and get all the services you need for any skin concerns.

Moreover, his clients have praised him for giving them natural results. That’s talent right there, no?

We love that his clinic is also accessible and conveniently located downtown. There are plenty of bus stops for commuters if you don’t want to drive during rush hour in Toronto.

From what we’ve seen, though, that Dr. Solish is a busy man. You may need to wait a bit until you get an appointment, especially since he doesn’t accept weekend bookings.

Pros

  • Received outstanding awards
  • Focuses on treating darker skin tones
  • Vice president of CLASS
  • Regularly attends Skin of Color Updates
  • Clinic doesn’t have long waiting times

Cons

  • No weekend appointments

A Toronto dermatologist who made it to our list is Dr. Jonathan Shapero of Shapero Dermatology. What impressed us most was his education and training, and his track record.

He graduated from Queen’s University, where he earned his medical degree. During his time there, he received several awards, including the Isobel McConville Scholarship and the L. J. Patterson Prize, both showing his dedication to research in the medical field.

Apart from his educational background, we also admire his professional affiliations. He currently serves as the vice president of the Canadian Laser and Aesthetic Specialists Society (CLASS), a non-profit dedicated to cosmetic laser surgery.

But what’s even more commendable is Dr. Shapero’s dedication to expanding his knowledge in dermatology. He regularly attends the dermatology conference dedicated to treating patients with skin of colour, the Skin of Color Updates.

In fact, the clinic he practices at specializes in treating individuals with darker skin tones. The clinic is also a favourite of ours because they’ve successfully treated thousands of patients and offer various services aimed at treating different skin colours.

Plus, we like that they are well-versed in many common skin problems, allowing many Toronto residents to visit their clinic. That includes scar and keloid treatment, skin tags, skin lesions, and even hair restoration.

Although we think it’s a downside that they don’t accept weekend appointments, we believe they compensate by providing efficient but thorough consultations. The clients we talked with appreciated the little to no wait times, showing good customer service!
