Pros

  • Wide variety of services
  • Features discounts for seniors and children
  • Excellent team

Cons

  • Long queues
  • Average ambience

We think King Cuts Barber is one of the top barbershops in Edmonton simply because of its wide array of services. A lot of locals have recommended this place because of how they go beyond haircuts and offer things like colouring, facials and even waxing.

From what we’ve seen, they also live up to their name, as they treat each customer like royalty with these services.

From the products that they use to the comfort of their chair and how delicate the barbers are with their hands, customers we interviewed mentioned that they definitely felt like a king during their time here!

We were impressed by King Cuts Barber’s founder, Youssef, a talented barber. From our surveys, we found that many customers praised his expertise and quick work that doesn’t compromise the quality.

But what we found even more impressive is that their prices here aren’t steep! In fact, they even offer a discount for children and senior citizens—pretty neat!

We also like that the establishment itself is well-maintained, considering how many customers they cater to every day. Plus, it’s pretty modern compared to other barbershops in the city, with its white walls, up-to-date barber chairs, and sleek mirrors!

If we were to nitpick something we didn’t like about this barbershop, though, it would be its somewhat lacklustre ambience.

It feels like a place that you’ll solely visit just to get your haircut over with – but if you’re that kind of customer, we think this won’t be a problem! The atmosphere is welcoming, though, and we found their friendly staff are worth commending for this.

Finally, we think it would also help if they had a better queueing system since they’re in demand. Though the occasional long lines are a good thing, serving as a testament for their good service, we think having a more organized system will make things a breeze for everyone.

Pros

  • Complete range of premium barber services
  • Expert barbers
  • Caters to women as well

Cons

  • Above average prices

Compound Cut Club offers one of the most complete sets of services we’ve ever seen in a barbershop in Edmonton. For starters, they cater to both men and women, which is pretty cool, as barbershops are usually stereotyped as only cutting men’s hair.

Aside from haircuts, they offer other classic services like hair colouring, beard shaving and tattooing. One thing that we liked as well was how they cater to different kinds of hair too, as seen from their braiding services.

People with straight hair who want to try something new can even curl their hair through their perming services. And speaking of trying something new, we like how they also offer a service called hair tattooing, where they etch cool shapes into their clients’ fades.

The main highlight of this place, however, is their roster of barbers, all of whom have been in the industry for years. We also find it cool how they let clients choose their barbers on their official website!

The only thing that people are clamouring for with this barbershop is to lower their rates, and we can see why. Their rates are above average compared to other barbershops, but you could argue that you’re getting what you’re paying for.

After all, we found that there are not a lot of barbershops out there that offer the same quality and variety of service and ambience that Compound Cut Club has.

Pros

  • Multiple accessible locations across Canada
  • Expert barbers
  • Wide range of hair care products

Cons

  • Pricey rates
  • Subpar customer service

Tommy Guns Barbershop is the closest thing you’ll get to a barbershop chain in Edmonton. It has several branches across the country, with each one offering a variety of premium barber services from haircuts to shaves, colouring—the whole nine.

We think one of the things that sets it apart is its in-house store. This store offers a myriad of hair products such as pomade, oils, gel, shaving cream and more, making it a one-stop-shop for all things hair.

The rustic interior and lively ambience also make Tommy Guns a good spot through and through, with its lively music and barbers that initiate conversations.

Speaking of barbers, we noted that the ones they have are quite the experts, boasting several years of experience under their belts. Add to that the head massage to top a haircut off and you’ve got a men’s grooming paradise.

As for its downsides, there were two main issues that we kept hearing about during our research. Firstly, there were past clients of theirs that we’ve contacted and they voiced out how overpriced the services here were.

Aside from that, they also expressed their frustration with how subpar their customer service was. One particular customer said that they were treated coldly by their representative even though their session was being pushed for several hours.

4. Royal Barber

Pros

  • Cheap services
  • Expert and friendly barbers

Cons

  • Limited types of services
  • Outdated interior

Royal Barber is a great option for those looking to get sharpened up without spending too much money. It’s safe to say that this barbershop has found its niche, which is providing affordable grooming services, as several of our respondents felt this way.

Fortunately, this cheap price range didn’t equate to poor quality, as evident by their previous clients’ testimonies. It’s not a big surprise either, as we’ve discovered upon further research that their barbers are trained with the latest trends and techniques.

From cutting to styling, shaving and more, you can expect the stylists/barbers here to know what they’re doing!

We also appreciated how they offered an in-house store to help their clientele stay sleek and stylish when they leave the barbershop’s doors.

Something that they could improve upon based on our surveys is their selection of services. Though we can see that it makes it more of a traditional barbershop this way, we think that it could get left behind in today’s day and age.

Their interior could also use some touching up, as some of its designs are starting to show their age. It may not seem like much for some, but this can affect the overall haircut experience for other customers.

5. Gentlemen’s Barbershop

Pros

  • Old-school barbershop vibes
  • Reasonable prices

Cons

  • Limited types of services
  • Some barbers give the wrong haircut

If you’re looking for a traditional barbershop experience, we think that Gentlemen’s Barbershop will be right up your alley. Starting with the shop itself, the interior features this classic and rustic look along with comfy chairs that will make you feel at home.

The services they offer are quite limited to our liking, but they are the usual ones you’ll find in traditional barbershops, namely haircuts and shaves. We can’t complain too much though as they offer some variety with their haircuts.

For instance, if you’re looking to add more style or transform your look, you can opt for their specialty cut. They claim that you’ll love your brand-new style after touching up your hair with a combination of straight-blade haircuts and shaves.

On the other hand, they also offer the traditional clean cut for those looking for a more classy look that’s appropriate for the office.

Another thing that previous clients’ have noted is that their barbers don’t always follow their instructions.

For example, one particular customer voiced out how his barber chopped off a longer length of hair than what they initially talked about. It’s not the only example too, as you can easily scroll through its reviews on Google and see the same sentiments.

Overall, Gentlemen’s Barbershop is a solid option if you’re looking to get a fresh cut at a reasonable price. They don’t overcharge their services and they provide a good old-fashioned haircut experience.
