Conservative Pierre Poilievre Wins Alberta By-Elections – Set to Return as MP

After losing the race to become Canada’s prime minister and failing to hold on to Carleton riding in the 2025 federal elections, Pierre Poilievre is now set to return to the House of Commons.

The Conservative Party Leader has won the Alberta by-election by a wide margin of victory, receiving 80.4% of the votes. Meanwhile, Independent candidate Bonnie Critchley was well behind with 9.9%.

The election results secured him the riding of Battle River-Crowfoot, a right-leaning turf in Western Canada. It wasn’t a shocking outcome, as the electoral district has long been considered one of the safest seats in the country for Conservatives.

Previously, Damien Kurek held the seat. But the former MP stepped down to give Poilievre a chance to return to the House of Commons.

In his victory speech, Poilievre thanked his wife Anaida and their children. He also gave thanks to Kurek, as his ‘gracious sacrifice has made this moment possible’.

He addressed the people by stating, “I will have the chance to be their humble servant to fight every day and in every way for the people in this region who feed, power, and protect all of Canada.”

He also said that the Conservatives will bring back an ‘immigration system that puts Canada first’. Poilievre proceeded to add that his party is willing to work with the Liberals to address the tariffs.

This September, he returns to the House of Commons in Ottawa as a member of parliament.
