One thing we like about Capilano Fence & Decking is how much care they put into the materials. They use Western Red Cedar and actually go through the boards one by one to avoid the usual issues, like knots, cracks, and warping.

Their “Sheraton” fence designs stand out, too. They use stronger framing, offer slatted gate options, and include some clean joinery details that give the fence a more upscale look.

We also have to give them credit for backing their work with a five-year warranty. That’s not something you see often around here, and it provides a lot of peace of mind knowing they’ll take care of any issues if something shifts or cracks down the line. 

Another plus is their communication. From quote to completion, they keep you in the loop with clear timelines and regular updates.

Just note that they specialize strictly in cedar fencing. So if you’re after vinyl, metal, or chain-link, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Still, if a quality cedar fence is what you’re after, they’re definitely a top contender.

Vancouver Fence Builders can handle pretty much any type of fencing, like wood, chain-link, vinyl, and metal. They do gates and commercial jobs, too, making things easier if you’re trying to get everything done by one crew. 

They’re also not in a rush to just fish and leave. They’ll talk you through how to take care of the fence you’re getting, which goes a long way in avoiding future headaches.

What also caught our attention is their range; they’re equipped to tailor things to the space and budget you’re working with.

Another solid touch is their gate options. They offer both manual and automated options, which is great if you’re thinking long-term or want something a little more secure.

The only thing we weren’t sold on is that they don’t clearly outline any warranty terms upfront. Not a red flag exactly, but it’d be nice to know what kind of backup there is if something goes wrong.

On the bright side, their free estimates are a good chance to ask questions and get to know them better.

You can tell North Shore Fences has been at this for a while; they’ve been around since 2002, and it shows in how they approach each job (over 1000 projects completed).

Instead of jumping straight into the build, they take a step back and look at what suits your property. Whether it’s matching the slope of your yard or working around your budget, the result feels like it fits, not like something pre-packaged.

Aside from cedar fences, they build decks, retaining walls, and a few other wood-based structures.

It’s also a win that they back their work with a three-year workmanship warranty. It’s not overly flashy, but it covers what matters, so if anything goes wrong due to how it was built, they’ll fix it.

There are a couple of limits worth noting, though. They only work with wood, so if you’re planning on something in metal or vinyl, this isn’t the place. And they focus on complete builds—no repairs or partial fixes. 

But hey, if you’re starting fresh and want a well-built cedar fence, they’re a decent pick.

We also appreciate how their team takes the time to explain materials and help you weigh the pros and cons, without upselling. So, you get the info you need to make a call that fits your priorities and needs. 

The catch? We found that their work is solely on metal. If you’re after something more decorative or natural-looking, like cedar or composite, you’ll have to look elsewhere. 

Regardless, we can’t deny that they’re a solid call, especially for those keen on security, longevity, and low maintenance.

With over 25 years of experience, Accurate Cedar has handled everything from private homes to larger strata jobs, earning the trust of a wide range of clients. 

What sets them apart is their materials—no prefab panels or cheap boards. They use locally milled Western Red Cedar and heavy-duty hemlock posts that hold up well in Vancouver’s wet climate.

Style-wise, there’s quite a bit of variety. Whether you’re after complete privacy, something more open with lattice, or even an arbour or custom gate, they’ve got the woodworking skills to pull it off. 

They do offer a one-year warranty for materials and installation issues, which is good to have. Still, we’ve noticed they’re not always the quickest to address post-installation concerns or questions. 

Also, if you’re looking for metal, vinyl, or composite options, this won’t be the place—they’re all about cedar.

On the other hand, the fact that 50% of their work comes from referrals, repeat customers, and word of mouth speaks volumes.
