Mark Carney Has Been Sworn in as MP for the Ottawa riding of Nepean
On the morning of May 22nd, Prime Minister Mark Carney was sworn in as a member of Parliament (MP) for the suburban Ottawa riding of Nepean. He swore his allegiance to King Charles on Parliament Hill.
When Carney succeeded Justin Trudeau, he didn’t hold a seat in Parliament. This marks the Canadian PM’s first seat in the House of Commons.
After swearing in, he received an MP lapel pin, as well as a special one for his wife, Diana Fox Carney. This gives them security access to the Hill.
In Carney’s short speech, he thanked his team who helped him during the campaign. He further stated that his allegiance to His Majesty is also an “allegiance to our country and to all citizens of Nepean, past, present, and future.”
Chandra Arya previously held the riding of Nepean. The Liberal Party, however, revoked his status as a candidate.
On the 26th of May, for the very first time, Carney will take his seat as MP.
