IRCC Streamlines Policy on Mailing IEC Work Permits to Canadian Addresses
Good news to foreign nationals in Canada!
The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is now allowing the mailing of work permits directly to eligible International Experience Canada (IEC) applicants who are already in the country.
The simplified process now mails the work permit to addresses in Canada, eliminating the need for IEC applicants to exit and re-enter the country to get their work permit, applicable only until December 1, 2025.
Most work permit requests are processed in five business days.
So, who is eligible?
- Applicants already in Canada with a valid IEC work permit at the time when they turn in their application for another participation.
- Applicants with a valid IEC Port of Entry Letter of Introduction (LOI). Remember that before the LOI expires, they must request a new work permit.
- Applicants who have legal status in Canada during the time they requested to receive their IEC work permit by mail.
- Applicants who maintain legal status in the country at all times.
Those who don’t meet the criteria must activate their work permit by exiting and re-entering Canada. It must be from another territory or country, except Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon or the US.
