6 Clinics With the Best Psychologists in Halifax Offering Support for Every Stage of Life

  • Qualifications – We checked their team’s credentials and experience, given that they handle a person’s mental health.
  • Treatment plan – The psychologist’s approach to crafting suitable treatment plans for their clients matters, so we checked out this aspect.
  • Availability and scheduling – We chose clinics that can accommodate their patients on time, have flexible schedules, and handle each client session efficiently.
  • Track record – We selected psychologists with a track record of positive progress after every session.
  • Client care – It’s crucial to address clients with proper courtesy and acknowledge any concerns involving their service or clinic.
  • Price – We listed places with reasonable rates, considering if they accept any insurance, follow a sliding-scale fee policy and charge any other fees.

During a recent vacation with a friend, he said, “Let’s unpack,” and I ended up unpacking more than my luggage—I let out some emotional baggage too. We sat there rambling about everything weighing on us; nothing really got solved, but it felt good to vent.

It also made me realize that some things don’t disappear just because you talk about them with someone close. Getting professional help is often the next step if you want real support and practical ways to move forward.

So, with the help of my team, we’ve reviewed the best psychologists in Halifax. Keep reading to find out which one might be the right fit for you or someone you care about on their path to healing.

What we love most about Virtuous Circle Counselling is that they’re more than just “talking,” considering that they strongly use evidence-based therapy methods. They use proven techniques like cognitive-behavioural therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and EMDR.

It’s reassuring to know that their team is composed of registered psychologists, therapists, counsellors, and psychotherapists. Each person has their niche, covering issues like anxiety, trauma, neurodiversity, couples issues, and more.

And just as diverse as their team, we also like that they welcome a diverse clientele. You can expect their practice and sessions to be in good taste since they’re attuned to a variety of backgrounds and identities.

If you’re not so sure yet about going to therapy, you can take advantage of their free 30-minute phone consultation to test the waters. And for those who end up booking a real session, note that you’ll have to pay half the fee if you cancel less than 24 hours before.

On a positive note, you can opt for online sessions if you feel like going in-person would be too inconvenient or not doable for you.

Talk and Thrive Psychology is a specialised multidisciplinary practice dedicated to supporting neurodivergent adults through evidence-based psychological services. The clinic was founded to address the growing need for accessible, inclusive, and developmentally informed assessments for individuals seeking clarity in their social and emotional journey.

The practice places strong emphasis on psychologist-led assessment services grounded in a biopsychosocial framework. This approach considers psychological, biological, social, cultural, and identity-related factors, ensuring each assessment accurately reflects an individual’s unique presentation.

Talk and Thrive is particularly well regarded for its neuro-affirming and inclusive care model. Their assessments acknowledge the wide diversity of neurodivergent experiences, especially for adults who may have been historically underdiagnosed or misunderstood.

The clinic is led by Armita Hosseini, a registered Psychological Associate with dual competency in counselling and clinical psychology. Her extensive background in neurodevelopmental conditions adds depth, credibility, and clinical insight to the practice.

A notable strength of Talk and Thrive is its focus on adult autism and ADHD presentations. The clinic integrates current research, professional collaboration, and practical recommendations that extend well beyond diagnosis alone.

Ethical, responsive care sits at the core of their service model. Assessments are designed to provide clear guidance, meaningful support options, and a collaborative experience that respects each client’s needs. For added convenience and accessibility, Talk and Thrive also offers virtual assessments.

Overall, Talk and Thrive Psychology is well suited to neurodivergent adults seeking thoughtful, research-informed psychological assessments. Its specialised expertise and neurodiversity-affirming values make it a strong option for individuals navigating late diagnosis or complex mental health concerns.

Pros

  • Neuro-affirming approach
  • Adult-focused assessments
  • Inclusive evaluation lens
  • Experienced clinic director

My go to expert for consultation

“Psychologist Armita Hosseini is my go to expert for consultation regarding adult ASD assessments, parenting consultation, and trauma and anxiety treatment. She brings a wealth of academic and applied experience to her clinical practice. For parents and adults seeking psychological services, including therapy and assessments, I would highly recommend seeking a professional consult. I would also recommend colleagues who seek supervision for complex adult assessment cases to reach out to her.”

Green Leaf Psychological Services can help people improve, especially if you don’t know where to start yet. It’s great that they conduct detailed psycho-educational assessments for ADHD, learning disorders, IQ, giftedness, and more, so you’ll be getting more than a “yes or no.”

They help by using well-validated modalities like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing. And these help hit issues like depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, grief, work/school stress, trauma, and more.

We’re glad clients get to match with a psychologist whose background fits their needs—you can do so as early as your initial consultation, where you can get a 30-minute assessment at no cost. They basically talk you through your concerns and test options.

On the flip side, they don’t offer sliding-scale fees, so some may find their $225 session a bit much. The good news is that, for those with insurance coverage, they offer direct billing to make the process easier!

Pros

  • Comprehensive assessment services
  • Handles many issues and concerns
  • Evidence-based approaches
  • Offers free consultation
  • Offers direct billing

Cons

  • No sliding-scale option

We appreciate how Insight Mental Health Counselling explicitly considers the broader life context, such as race, gender, class, and ability, in their practice. It isn’t uncommon for clients to come in with social identity or systemic issues, so it’s nice to have someone who gets these contexts.

That said, their approach in tackling these things allows you to understand your identity and how your past shapes your present, and builds resilience in a way that feels meaningful and true to who you are—it doesn’t feel forced or like a chore.

Another detail we like is their transparent and competitive pricing. You know exactly what you’re paying for, and none of those hidden “note-taking fees” or surprise costs that spook you at the end of the session.

But we do think it’s a bummer that they don’t provide in-person sessions and are closed on weekends. Still, online sessions have worked for many clients, which is a good sign of their competence and practice.

Pros

  • Deep understanding of social context and inclusion
  • Great with narrative therapy
  • Competitive pricing
  • Offers direct billing

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • No in-person sessions

Incredibly kind

“One of the best virtual counselling services you’ll ever experience. The therapists are incredibly kind, compassionate, and genuinely committed to helping you in every way they can. I truly wish I could give more than 5 stars—because they absolutely deserve it. If you’re considering booking a session, don’t hesitate. You won’t regret it!”

Georgina Faddoul of Georgina’s Psychological Wellness is a highly qualified clinical psychologist with strong experience in community mental health and addictions.

A huge plus with her approach is that it mixes evidence-based and flexible therapeutic methods. This means you get to undergo therapy that’s more tailored to your needs since she can use CBT, ACT, DBT, CPT, mindfulness, and acceptance-based strategies.

Their life coaching service is also a win. If you want forward movement after healing, the coaching complements therapy well.

For those who are still in the grey, Georgina also provides ADHD assessments and other diagnostic interviews. And you can get more info before starting with their free phone consultation.

The hitch? Well, she’s the only registered psychologist in their team, which can limit the number of clients she can take at a time. Nonetheless, her clinic is a solid option, especially with adults with anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, and more.

Pros

  • Offers clinical psychology
  • Evidence-based and flexible approaches
  • Specialized assessment capability
  • Offers free consultations

Cons

  • Solo psychologist
  • Closed on weekends

Spirit Psychological has an impressive multidisciplinary team; think registered psychologists, counsellors, behaviour interventionists, speech-language pathologists, and learning strategists. And these are more than your typical psychological clinic.

Speaking of the clinic, we have to say that their counselling rooms are designed to feel homey, especially with the couches, blankets, and they even have therapy dogs. It’s the type of place you can feel comfortable in to be more open and vulnerable.

For those who can’t make it in person, we’re glad that they also offer secure phone or video therapy sessions.

Wait times can be a problem, though. Some school-aged psychoeducational assessments can take 8-10 weeks for available appointments. On the other hand, it does show us that their assessments are sought-after and accurate.

Overall, Spirit Psychological is a reliable and comfortable place to go if you need help, and they work with children, teens, adults, and families.

Pros

  • Multi-disciplinary team
  • Has a therapeutic and welcoming environment
  • Offers in-person and online sessions
  • Offers behavior support

Cons

  • No direct billing
  • Pricey cancelation fee
  • Wait times can be long
