  • Excellent in explaining
  • Doesn’t solely rely on medication
  • Does remote sessions and communication

Cons

At the helm of New Health Models International is Dr. Jose Stelzer, who continues to share knowledge and workshops on improving current health models to better serve patients and communities.

He specializes in addressing various mental health concerns and treatment for a broad range of personal and interpersonal challenges. In addition, he also deals with a variety of emotional and behavioural issues in his patients.

On that note, we like how he can create a safe space for his patients to talk and share what they want. From our surveys, many patients say he’s easy to talk to since his compassion and empathy come through while still being professional and direct.

We also commend him for not relying on medication to help you since he’s fully aware of how it can be used or misused.

Moreover, he’s a strong advocate for exploring alternatives like exercise and relaxation techniques. Plus, he’s into helping you rethink and see your challenges in a new light.

Although we think it’s quite a bummer that he doesn’t have an online booking system, we even heard some patients are having difficulty booking a session due to his busy schedule.

Lastly, we appreciate that he’s willing to take some time off his schedule to meet with you remotely or through other means — he’ll help you even if he’s overseas!

Pros

  • Great listener and sincere
  • Effective prescriptions and medication
  • Excellent consultation and diagnosis

Cons

  • Has long wait times
  • Doesn’t offer online sessions

What we like about Dr. Jane Moody is that she takes patients seriously, has just the right amount of humour, and can quickly build a good rapport, making you feel comfortable as the session progresses. Her clinic is located at the St. Boniface Hospital.

It’s admirable that she sincerely listens to what you say rather than jumping to prescribing after barely hearing what you’re struggling with.

For instance, a patient presented her with a two-page description of a few traumatic past incidents, and she took the time to read and comment on them.

We’re also relieved that her thorough consultations allow her to diagnose every patient accurately. It also means you’ll get your money’s worth every session because she doesn’t waste it on meaningless or unrelated advice.

Another standout about Dr. Jane is her talent for prescribing the right medication to help her patients with their conditions.

Based on our research, many patients got better and were happy with the effectiveness of their medication. A patient even shared that Dr. Jane was their first psychiatrist in over 20 years that found the key medication for them — in hindsight, it was life-changing for the patient.

Should you consider her services, we suggest you call and book an early appointment to avoid a long wait time or delays if you booked an afternoon session.

Pros

  • Facilitates eating disorder programs
  • Has understanding and encouraging team
  • Continues to find new solutions

Cons

  • Some reports of rescheduling
  • Can improve bedside manners

Dr. Louis Ludwig specializes in helping patients with eating disorders but also tends to those with ADHD, depression, and other mental conditions. He’s also a staff psychiatrist at Health Sciences Centre.

We like that his experience and technique in treating people with eating disorders is flexible rather than rigid — it’s not a one size fits all approach. This way, you won’t have to go in circles just because the treatment for other patients doesn’t work for you.

And given the broad nature of eating disorders, we appreciate Dr. Ludwig for facilitating adult eating disorder programs that educate and show patients that they can get better and overcome their battles.

It’s also a plus in our books that his team is understanding and encouraging; they make you feel comfortable and validate your feelings.

For patients with one-on-one sessions, we suggest you double-check and confirm his availability, especially since there have been reports of rescheduling and delays.

We’re also a bit iffy regarding reports of inconsistent bedside manners, especially during crowded days.

On the bright side, we applaud Dr. Ludwig for constantly trying to find newer and better solutions for his patients.

Overall, we believe Dr. Louis Ludwig is the psychiatrist you should call if you’re struggling with an eating disorder.

Pros

  • Has a wide range of services
  • Handles all age groups
  • Straight-forward and sincere

Cons

  • Can improve bedside manners
  • Some reports of rushed assessments

Dr. Brent Armstrong is an expert in easing issues like anxiety, depression, stress, and anger, empowering you to take charge once more. He’s also the only psychiatrist in Crestview Medical Clinic.

What we appreciate the most is that Dr. Armstrong communicates clearly and directly, focusing on addressing your concerns and tackling issues head-on.

From what we’ve seen, he also prioritizes open communication and ensures his patients thoroughly understand his diagnoses. And this has helped patients give a sense of stability and control over themselves.

For instance, a patient shared that after over 25 years of severe clinical depression, now finally getting well and seeing progress, thanks to Dr. Armstrong’s approach of getting well from a holistic viewpoint rather than just doling out medications.

On the downside, we also noted some sentiments from patients claiming that some initial consultations feel rushed, leaving them wanting to have shared more details.

In addition, patients mentioned that he should also work on his bedside manners since he would sometimes come off too strong or direct for some.

Nonetheless, Dr. Brent Armstrong is a solid choice for patients of all ages who are having a hard time with anxiety, depression and the like.

Pros

  • Has many experiences working with children
  • Provides long-term predictions and solutions
  • Excellent track record with ADD/ADHD patients

Cons

  • Can improve flexibility of approach
  • Can improve bedside manners

Dr. Jack Perlov boasts significant experience in outpatient psychiatric settings, catering to patients of various ages and a wide range of diagnoses.

This includes conditions like depression, anxiety, ADHD, and autism, along with addressing the challenges of burnout among physicians and therapists.

We also think it’s great that he continues his private practice at Health Sciences Centre, despite retiring from the University of Manitoba.

It’s worth mentioning that his dedication is beyond delivering exceptional care and assistance to individuals and families since he’s equally devoted to making a positive impact on society.

To give you an idea, he has also been instrumental in helping a patient and their family learn how to efficiently manage ADD with the least amount of medication. This way, the patient can be surrounded by people who understand his situation well enough to help him through his life.

But, we also noted some reports about the lack of flexibility to adopt a different approach when a patient suddenly feels like they’re not progressing.

We also think he needs to work on his bedside manners since some patients claimed he would sound dismissive during consultations.

Though we have to give him props for having experience handling children with different mental conditions. And we’re impressed that many families have been grateful for Dr. Jack’s help since it has allowed their children to grow up well and able.
