Pros
- Offers 600L free propane when switching to them
- Has a mobile app
- Offers a wireless tank monitoring system
- Provides automatic propane deliveries
Cons
- Doesn’t focus on small-sized tanks
Superior Propane has been in the propane distribution game for over 70 years, earning a solid reputation as a trusted supplier.
What impressed us most is how they’ve seamlessly integrated digital solutions into their services for top-notch efficiency and safety.
Take their mobile app, for example – it lets you easily manage your propane needs, from requesting deliveries to checking and paying bills — all in one convenient place.
On top of that, we like how they provide a tank monitoring system that guarantees you’re never short on fuel. This system sends notifications with current propane levels and offers the convenience of checking readings, delivery details, and past usage history online.
From our research, we found that they also provide automatic propane deliveries, so you get on with your business without having to remember to check your propane tank levels. Still, home delivery options are always open, so you can change your plan at any time.
Though it’s a bit of a bummer they don’t go for the smaller tank sizes, the smallest one they offer is a 375-litre cylinder, standing around 4.5 feet tall — we think that’s too much for an outdoor grill party.
Nonetheless, we believe Superior Propane ups the convenience factor with its top-notch monitoring services. As a bonus, if you choose to switch to their services, you’ll also receive a complimentary 600L propane.

Pros
- Provides propane-related products and cylinder services
- Has automatic delivery services
- Small to large tank sizes
- A full service propane centre
Cons
- Closed on weekends
- Can improve customized orders
Metro Propane has been serving Winnipeg and the eastern half of Manitoba for over 45 years. We like their full-service approach, offering everything from forklift delivery, bulk tank rentals and sales, installation, propane appliances, gas barbecues and more.
It’s also worth mentioning that they offer propane-related products like regulators, fittings and adaptors. Plus, they have trained plant staff who can fill your cylinder quickly and repair or recertify it while you wait.
However, we think they should improve their customized orders by giving clear instructions and keeping clients in the loop about the service process.
Note that they’re not around on weekends, so if you’ve got questions or need something done, it’s best to hit them up early on weekdays. That way, you can make sure your deliveries or orders get sorted in the same week.
Conveniently, they offer automatic delivery services. So, you can kick back without any worries about running out of propane during those chilly winter months.
Another thing we like is that they’ve got a variety of tank sizes up for grabs. Whether you’re looking for a propane tank for a camping trip or a larger one for your home, they’ve got you covered!
All in all, if you’re on the hunt for a good mix of options and other propane-related stuff, Metro Propane Inc. seems like a pretty solid pick.

Pros
- Speedy and same-day deliveries
- No delivery fee for greater Winnipeg area
- Members get every 6th exchange for free
- Has an urgent delivery service
- Has competitive rates
Cons
- Has limited tank sizes
- Has fewer services than competitors
A neat thing about True North Propane Mobile Tank Exchange & Delivery is their speedy service. They’re all about getting propane to your door and even up for same-day deliveries — just in time for your last-minute BBQ!
For those in condos or apartments, this service is a real winner. Just so you know, their tank exchange comes at $29.97 plus tax, and a new full tank is at $74.97, which is quite a reasonable deal.
It’s also worth noting that there’s no delivery fee for those in the greater Winnipeg area. So, you can skip the whole pickup routine and have your propane tank delivered right to you.
On the flip side, they’re a bit limited with sizes; they mostly deal with 20-lb tanks for delivery and exchange. And just a heads up, they mainly do deliveries and exchanges, so you might not find other propane-related products or tank services with them.
Another thing we like is that they offer urgent delivery services, which can be a lifesaver during freezing winters or mealtime emergencies. All you need to do is just pay an additional $25 for the urgent delivery fee — a small price for an emergency.
Lastly, should you consider applying for True North Propane’s membership, you can enjoy every sixth exchange for free!

Pros
- Provides a wide range of services
- Has many regulars
- Has many branches in Winnipeg
Cons
- Has a minimum charge for refills
- Can improve assistance
- Some reports of lack of availability of propane
Red River Co-op has been offering a diverse range of propane products and services since 1967. With more than 35 Gas Bars throughout Manitoba and 22 branches across Western Canada, quite the footprint.
In addition, they’re not just about propane – they’ve got you covered with fuel, food, drinks, washrooms, and even vehicle repairs, making it a true one-stop destination.
From our surveys, it looks like most clients are regulars at Red River for propane refills. And this says a lot about the convenience of their service.
It’s also a plus in our books that they have many branches in Winnipeg; that way, you can pick the nearest one for your propane needs.
However, we’re a bit iffy regarding reports about the lack of propane availability in some branches, specifically clients running into propane stations that are out of order. You’ll probably need to visit the next one or another time.
On another note, we’re kind of thinking they could do a bit better in the service department for refills and exchanges. Some clients have mentioned that there’s been a bit of a lack of assistance at times.
Regardless, we believe Red River Co-op Gas Bar is great if you’re the type who remembers to top up your propane tank after a day’s work.

Pros
- Has an online shopping format on the website
- Available seven days a week
- Has rewards programs for members
Cons
- Some reports of slow wait times
- Slightly pricier propane tanks
- Mostly does curbside pick ups
What we like most about Canadian Tire is that they use an online shopping format for their products. That said, you can easily choose which propane tank you want and add it to your bag or check its price and availability if you’re just browsing.
We also think it’s great that they offer other products, such as stuff for your automotive needs, tools and hardware, and outdoor living products. It also means that you can place an order without going to the physical store; it saves you time and the hassle if it’s out of stock.
But we’re quite disappointed that they mostly do curbside pick-ups for online purchases, especially for propane tanks.
They also do tank exchanges and refills, but the wait times can be long, which is a bummer if you’re in a hurry. So, try to avoid peak hours and call ahead.
On the plus side, Canadian Tire is available seven days a week and closes late at night, so it’s great for after-work propane runs.
Finally, just a tip: if you see yourself being a regular, we suggest you apply for their rewards program to enjoy perks and discounts. We say this because their propane tanks are slightly pricier than other suppliers.
