The 5 Clinics With The Best Oral Surgeons In Edmonton

The 5 Clinics with the Best Oral Surgeons in Edmonton

How We Picked

Qualifications – To ensure the client is going to a board-certified oral surgeon in Edmonton, we checked the licenses, certifications, and affiliations to ensure a high level of care.
Expertise – We evaluated the oral surgeon’s medical training, education, and specialization to ensure they are experts in their fields.
Reputation – We looked into the dental clinic’s reputation to ensure a professional and comfortable experience.
Pricing – Oral surgeries have different fees, so we eyed clinics that offer honest pricing and payment plans.

Pros

  • Has two dentists available
  • Accepts patients of all ages
  • Provides honest and fair pricing
  • Convenient location

Cons

  • Closes early on Fridays
  • Difficulty booking due to irregular clinic hours

All Smiles Dentistry provides a wide variety of services, from general to restorative dentistry. It first opened in 1999 under the name Westgate Dental Clinic.

Its location is in West Edmonton, with plenty of convenient parking spaces. To add, there are many shops around for clients with errands to run.

Some dental clinics in Edmonton only have one dentist, resulting in limited availability. That’s why we appreciate that two dentists are available: Dr. Giovanna Cunsolo and Dr. Steven Barkwell.

Moreover, we find it impressive that they specialize in many dental procedures. They can do simple fillings to bone grafting.

Another positive aspect is that clients of all ages can go to All Smiles Dentistry. Dr. Cunsolo services kids and adults, which we think is impressive since not all dentists do so.

Furthermore, the dental clinic has earned the trust of many loyal patients. Many we talked with said they’ve been going to Dr. Cunsolo for years, and she has been their family’s dentist.

Possibly due to the welcoming and excellent service that their patients have continued to visit them. The two dentists were also very thorough, making sure to know the history of their patients for effective service.

We were also happy that the clinic provided honest pricing. Although some procedures can be pricey, new patients mentioned that All Smiles Dentistry was not expensive when compared to other dental clinics in Edmonton.

However, they close a bit earlier on Fridays. Also, their clinic hours are all over the place, which can be challenging when scheduling appointments for working patients.

Pros

  • Over 30 years of experience
  • Highly experienced dentist
  • Complimentary light laser treatments for major surgeries
  • Known for compassion and welcoming approach

Cons

  • Only open four days a week
  • No general dental services

Dederich Dental Clinic is owned by Dr. Douglas Dederich, who has been a periodontal dentist since 1992. It offers a range of periodontal procedures focusing on gum health.

Being a periodontist, Dr. Dederich also does oral surgery. It’s just that he focuses on procedures on soft and hard tissues in the mouth.

We were glad to hear about his expertise, dentistry contributions, and academic achievements. Currently, he’s the Co-Director of the Graduate Periodontology Program at the University of Alberta.

We appreciate that Dr. Dederich will personally perform all oral surgeries, considering that many patients prefer him for the procedures.

As for the services, they offer many treatments and procedures for minor and major surgeries. But it’s essential to note that they don’t offer general dental services.

It’s worth mentioning that the clinic offers low-level light laser treatments, which can speed up healing after the surgery. Also, patients undergoing major surgeries can have this treatment as part of their service for free.

The patients we surveyed liked the informative and welcoming staff, especially since some were nervous about getting dental procedures.

Moreover, Dr. Dederich showed a lot of compassion for his patients. Major dental surgeries can be nerve-wracking, so an excellent bedside manner is an aspect we look for in dentists.

A minor drawback is that Dederich Dental Clinic is only open four days a week. Due to this, some people might have difficulty finding the right schedule that’ll fit their schedules.

Pros

  • Convenient location
  • Modern and clean clinic
  • Available for emergencies
  • Has an on-call surgeon
  • Consistent clinic hours

Cons

  • Needs improvement in communicating with clients
  • Minor complaints about front desk

Located in Southwest Edmonton, Contours Oral Surgery specializes in oral and maxillofacial surgeries. It has a complete team of oral surgeons, registered nurses, and surgical assistants for trustworthy service.

Its location at the Currents of Windermere is convenient. There are plenty of parking spaces and many shops and restaurants all around.

One of the factors we like is the clean, modern, and spacious clinic. It also offers lots of privacy, which we think is important for patient-doctor confidentiality.

Another factor we like is that there are three oral surgeons. As a result, they can cater to many patients.

In addition, they have an on-call surgeon in case of emergencies. They’re available after-hours, too, which is highly convenient.

We also find it helpful that they have after-surgery information on the website, besides the surgeon’s and staff’s instructions at the clinic. We find this beneficial since some people need reminders of the instructions in case they forget.

It’s worth mentioning that the clinic hours are consistent, which not many oral surgery clinics in Edmonton have. For us, this makes scheduling easy since patients can easily rearrange their work schedules.

Also, past patients we talked with liked their surgeon’s professionalism. They complimented that they felt cared for, that their surgeon was informative, and made them feel at ease.

A downside we found is the customer service. It was disappointing to hear that some people experienced unsatisfactory service when calling the reception desk.

Further, we would like to see an improvement in communication. Some felt that the staff they talked with were argumentative regarding issues with the clinic.

Pros

  • Specialises in oral and maxillofacial surgery
  • Convenient location
  • Flexible financial policy
  • Efficient service

Cons

  • Slightly higher fees
  • Some complaints about aftercare service
  • Minor complaints about customer service from front desk

Gateway Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is an Edmonton-based dental clinic. Dr. Andrew Mather heads the clinic using his expertise and specialty training.

Moreover, he specialises in facial cosmetic surgery. Due to this, many people go to his clinic to enhance their facial features and smiles.

Firstly, we like its convenient location with many nearby shops. There are also plenty of parking spaces, even during busy hours.

Secondly, we appreciate the clinic’s flexible financial policy. However, some patients felt that the clinic offered slightly higher fees.

Additionally, they help patients when submitting pre-authorization to their insurance companies. Considering it can sometimes be stressful talking to insurance carriers, we believe many people will appreciate the assistance they will provide.

Thirdly, they offer a variety of procedures, from tooth extraction to jaw surgery. Because of these options, they can cater to people with different dental problems.

They even have a Teeth In A Day procedure, which can reduce the number of invasive surgeries for those needing a complete set of teeth.

Lastly, Gateway clients appreciated the efficient and quick dental process. Some even mentioned that their experiences were painless, despite needing teeth extraction.

That’s why we were disappointed to hear complaints about the reception desk and aftercare service. Some felt that the staff needed to be more sensitive about patients with anxiety even after the procedure.

Pros

  • Specialises in oral and facial surgeries
  • Provides insurance assistance
  • Wide range of procedures
  • Convenient location

Cons

  • Some complaints about customer service
  • Cases of long waiting time

Renew Oral & Facial Surgical Centre is a non-hospital facility in Edmonton offering various oral and facial procedures. It’s conveniently located, too, with ample parking areas in front of the clinic.

In addition, the clinic is spacious and clean. It’s one of the important aspects when looking for a dental clinic, which is why we like that the team keeps it well-maintained.

We appreciate that there’s a team of surgeons trained and experienced in oral and maxillofacial cases. Because of this, clients with complex dental problems can get their procedure here instead of looking for a referral to a different clinic.

It’s worth mentioning that the clinic will gladly offer assistance when submitting insurance claims. We find this convenient since not all clinics do this.

On top of those aspects, they offer a tonne of services. As a result, people can hire a single clinic for different procedures.

Aside from the usual oral procedures, they also offer cleft lip and palate surgeries. The variety of treatments can benefit a wide range of clientele, in our opinion.

However, it wasn’t pleasant to hear about the long waiting times, especially with an appointment. Also, some complained about needing better customer assistance.

Nonetheless, we’ve seen a significant improvement in the clinic’s staff. Recently, they communicated consistently, making sure that the patients knew the aftercare instructions.
