Pros
- Offers free consultation
- Great with young or self-employed adults
- Handles poor credit or little income and savings
- Has a holistic approach
- Provides fast and convenient mortgage renewals
- Manages to find lower rates than expected
Cons
- Does not have 24/7 support line
Laurie Boudreau, a mortgage broker with Castle Mortgage, has been in the industry for over 20 years, and we are amazed by her consistent performance throughout the years.
We see her as a one-stop shop for mortgage needs, such as working with first-time home buyers and 2nd mortgage financing. We like that she ensures you are fully aware of the options and pros and cons to help you choose the most suitable.
On top of this, we appreciate her holistic approach to every client, and by this, we mean that she pretty much handles everything for you. She’s thorough and maintains regular communication and updates — you can even get a mortgage renewal from the comfort of your home.
Although, we cannot guarantee that you’ll have the same fast response time after hours since they don’t have a 24/7 support line.
Regardless, what we like most about Laurie is her talent for getting you the lowest rates possible to meet your needs, even if the public rates are high.
We also want to highlight how she successfully guides young or self-employed adults toward getting their first home. This is excellent news since being self-employed can make it tricky to be approved for a mortgage, especially by banks.
Overall, we recommend you book a free consultation with Laurie for your mortgage needs even if you have poor credit or little savings — she’ll find a way!

Cons

One Link Mortgage & Financial provides mortgage brokerage, renewal, refinancing, and financial planning services and ensures the best mortgage interest rate and mortgage terms you qualify for.
Among their team of brokers, we believe that Karen Beckingham is one of their best, given her streak of satisfied clients and successful deals made.
From what we’ve seen, Karen is skilled at crafting customized mortgage solutions, whether it’s your first home, a subsequent purchase, investment property or help with debt management.
We also like how personable and informative she is from day one until the contract ends. It’s easy to approach and ask a bunch of questions to her because she gladly answers them and provides you with suggestions that can help.
But note that they’re closed on the weekends, so we advise you to contact them during their regular hours.
On the bright side, Karen is highly responsive and swiftly replies to messages. And we appreciate her effort and diligence to make you understand, even if you’re only discussing over the phone.
It’s also worth mentioning that there have been plenty of praises for her stress-free and fast process, most of which are from home-buyers. That said, we like that she’s always on top of things and can act accordingly without a hitch.

Pros
- Has a high approval rate
- Has access to competitive rates
- Team handles everything
- Highly responsive and attentive
Cons
- Slightly fewer brokers in the team than competitors
- Closed on weekends
Dominion Lending Centres has access to the multiple mortgage products and rates available across Canada.
We like that they can cater to your needs, whether you’re purchasing a home for the first time, taking out equity from your home for investment or pleasure, or your current mortgage is up for renewal.
The one that stood out the most in their team is Peter Paley, especially since he has been in the financial services industry since 1998. We have to give him a hand for having the experience and knowledge that can maneuver through diverse client situations.
On that note, we are impressed by his high approval rate for getting his clients a low-interest mortgage deal. And many of his clients were previously denied service by other companies and banks — in the end, they got new homes at a doable and low mortgage rate!
That said, their access to competitive rates is one of their edge against other companies. This allows them to be more flexible and give more assurance to clients with challenging credits, income or savings.
However, we think it’s a shame that they have relatively few brokers, and they’re also closed on weekends. Both can affect their flexibility and availability to client schedules and demands.
Nonetheless, we like Peter and the rest of the Dominion team for being at every step of the process and handling every head-scratching thing for a hassle-free experience.
4. Ron Chan – Mortgage Broker | INVIS Winnipeg

Pros
- Great with self-employed and first-time buyers
- Accepts urgent mortgage requests
- Patient and thorough with consultations
- Has an easy and fast approach
- Provides efficient services for immigrants
- Offers free quotations
Cons
- A one-man team
Ron Chan from INVIS Winnipeg specializes in and offers mortgage services, like home purchases, renewals, and more.
Although he is a one-man team, limiting his flexibility to do more work at once. But we need to acknowledge his talent in providing families and individuals with a successful and approved mortgage.
On top of this, we like that he provides services for immigrants, especially if it’s their first time buying a home. We know the home-buying process can feel intimidating in a new land, so we’re glad Ron has the expertise to handle this effectively.
It’s also worth mentioning that he has an impressive track record in helping self-employed and first-time buyers in getting their first house. We witnessed how he made everything seem simple and easy, taking the stress right out of the process.
That said, we think it’s admirable that he embraces modern technology and incorporates it into his operations — designed to save you time and energy.
For instance, you won’t need to take time out of your schedule to meet with him — though you can still opt to do so — and only need to meet up with him to sign and hand over the documents as discussed over a phone call.
Lastly, we think Ron Chan is a solid choice, especially for his sense of urgency with clients on a tight schedule or stuck in tricky situations.

Pros
- Has a 2-minute quick application system
- Has multiple mortgage calculators
- Informative and thorough
- Can work on a tight timeline
- Offers a no obligation quotation
- Brokers have their own sub-team
Cons
- Closed on weekends
- Can improve follow-up services
Ideal Mortgage Solutions has a team of experienced professionals to provide personalized financial advice, stress-free mortgage processing, and market-leading rates and terms.
Among these experts is Chad Wilson, a broker that has caught our attention because of his exceptional track record in handling home purchases and mortgages for self-employed clients.
We are also impressed by the calibre of knowledge he has in this field, which is clearly noticeable when he can effectively make clients with little to no idea about mortgages understand their situation and how to handle it.
In most cases, Chad will provide a thorough breakdown of what your mortgage would look like. And, from what we observed, this had greatly served its purpose, especially for single and self-employed clients.
Notably, he has his own team with members who are in charge of marketing and customer care. However, we noted some reports of having slow-paced responses for follow-up or post-closing services, which we think need to improve.
On the bright side, we are pleased with Chad’s ability to work on a tight schedule without cutting corners.
Another thing we like is that Ideal Mortgage Solutions has multiple mortgage calculators on its website. It’s also a plus in our books that they have a two-minute quick application for your mortgage needs to get you started after a few clicks!
