Pros
- Works in Toronto and Taiwan
- Offers flexible schedules
- Provides comprehensive classes
Cons
- Doesn’t offer large classes
Satine Yang, the lead makeup and hair stylist, established Satine Studio. What impressed us is how long she’s been working in the industry—since 2003! That’s two decades!
Upon seeing her portfolio, we found that Yang specializes in bridal makeup. But what we admire the most is her talent and flexibility in style—important things in a hair and makeup teacher!
We definitely like that she can achieve any makeup look—it truly shows her expertise, eh? She can do fresh and natural looks, bold and dramatic, and Hollywood glam!
Not only that, she’s also talented in different hairstyles, ideal for any wedding theme! She can achieve romantic low-chignon, half-up half-down, or a simple bridal blowout!
Before we forget, we really like how she elegantly adds hair accessories to any hairstyle. In our opinion, it adds an extra oomph to the overall look!
As for Yang’s hair and makeup classes, they’re available for private one-on-one and groups. The downside is she only caters to small groups, up to three students.
The bright side is that she doesn’t have a set schedule for her makeup and hair classes. Students can choose their preferred time, which is convenient!
Also, her professional classes are comprehensive, which we like! She has 15 to 17 lessons for her professional bridal secretary makeup classes! Tonnes of knowledge, eh?
But if you want to take a class with Satine Studio, you’ll have to plan ahead. She gets a packed schedule since she’s pretty in demand as an HMUA (Hair and Makeup Artist) in Canada and Taiwan—is that really a downside, though?

Pros
- Worked on magazine covers and editorial spreads
- Offers virtual classes worldwide
- Provides airbrush classes
Cons
- No group airbrush classes
Jen Evoy Makeup Studio’s contemporary studio in Toronto caught our attention! It’s clean and glamorous, which is where they conduct their classes!
Expertise is the first thing we looked for, and Jen Evoy’s team has plenty—with published editorials to back them up!
Furthermore, it’s impressive how many times WedLuxe magazine has recognized them. They worked on a lot of issues, showcasing their hair and makeup artistry, including cover and editorial spreads.
As for their hair and makeup lessons, we like that they offer individual and group classes! It can be a nice activity for you and your friends!
Additionally, they offer intensive training tailored for professional HMUAs within the industry! That’s ideal if you want to improve your skills, no?
They also offer one-on-one airbrush courses! Unfortunately, this one isn’t available for groups.
On the upside, their hair and makeup courses are available at varying price points. One option is with their senior artist, and another is led by Jen Evoy, their lead artist and owner.
But what’s even better is they offer online classes worldwide! While virtual classes have disadvantages, they make Jen Evoy Makeup Studio accessible to non-Torontonians.
All in all, we really like Jen Evoy Makeup Studio due to the variety of hair and makeup lessons available. Each attendee even gets discounted rates on their studio products!

Pros
- Travels to the client/student
- Available for big groups
- Offers drag and creative makeup lessons
Cons
- Pricier rates
What caught our attention about Michael Fels Beauty is they’re a completely mobile team of HMUAs travelling to the GTA and Metro Vancouver. That’s a pretty vast coverage area!
Their experience in the industry is also quite impressive in our books. Michael Fels, the owner and lead stylist, graduated from the John Casablancas Institute with a Makeup Artistry degree—he finished with honours!
Another aspect we like is their wide array of makeup and hair services. They offer individual and group classes (available for big groups!) and targeted lessons.
Furthermore, the advantage of their targeted makeup lessons is you can focus on one area. They offer a variety, focusing on fixing makeup mistakes, makeup for women over 60, and more!
Plus, we like that they offer makeup and hair lessons for professionals in the industry. It’s a nice way to upskill your career, no?
From our surveys, we noted that a notable aspect about their professional makeup classes is they offer focused lessons, too. They even provide drag makeup lessons and creative makeup!
As we mentioned earlier, Michael Fels Beauty is a mobile team. That also applies to their beauty classes—convenient if you can’t leave home!
Given the travel they need to do, their rates are higher than competitors. When factoring in the travel fees, their final pricing will exceed the average in Toronto.

Pros
- Worked with TV shows and celebrities
- Provides in-studio, in-home, and virtual classes
- Available for big groups
- Provides the model for masterclass
Cons
- Expensive prices
- Closed on Saturdays
Fancy Face was founded in Toronto by Brittany Gray. From what we’ve seen, her experience in the makeup industry is truly worth highlighting!
Impressively, Gray has worked in Hollywood, and she has applied makeup on many public personalities. Notable names include Sex and the City writer Candace Bushnell and actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones and Hilary Swank.
Her makeup expertise also led her to contribute tips and tricks to ET Canada and Cityline viewers. WedLuxe magazine, Vanity Fair, and Hello! Canada also published her works!
Clearly, she has more than enough experience in the field, earning her a spot on our list. Plus, her makeup and hair classes are pretty comprehensive.
Fancy Face’s makeup and hair classes are for one-on-one and in groups. We like the option of in-studio, in-home and virtual courses, too! Talk about convenience!
The advantage of the in-home classes is you can book even if you’re not from Toronto. Gray or her team can travel to Etobicoke and Vancouver!
Moreover, you can book them for virtual classes from anywhere in the world! It’s the accessibility we appreciate!
They also offer a hair and makeup masterclass for industry professionals, available for groups. The notable aspect is you don’t have to bring a model because they will provide their own.
Considering everything we discussed, it isn’t surprising that Fancy Face charges expensive rates. Their owner is a beauty expert, after all!
Another downside is they’re closed on Saturdays. The upside is their studio is open on Sundays—that’s at least half of a weekend!

Pros
- Featured in various publications
- Won WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Awards
- Reasonably priced services
- All classes are customizable
Cons
- No group classes for non-artists
- Closed on weekends
Janet Ford, a highly sought-after HMUA, established Ford Beauty. Their service area is one of the things we like, and they serve the GTA and nearby cities!
Their experience is impressive as well. Their works were featured in various publications, such as Magnolia Rogue, Bride.ca, Green Wedding Shoes, and Elegant Wedding Magazine.
In addition, they won WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Awards twice, in 2015 and 2016. It entails they’re one of the best local wedding professionals!
Frankly, we really like the recognition they received. It shows their skills in the beauty industry, no?
Their beauty expertise is pretty vast as well. They focus on weddings, maternity, and editorials but also work on various makeup and hairstyles, whether you want a natural look or glam!
As for their makeup and hair classes, we appreciate that they offer personal and group training. They conduct all of these in their studio only, by the way.
A favourite aspect of ours is their prices! One-on-one training with the founder only costs $160, with a fee of $80 per additional hour.
Furthermore, this inexpensive rate is already for a 2-hour class! The downside is they don’t offer group hair and makeup classes for non-professionals—they’re closed on weekends, too.
On the upside, we were glad to learn that all Ford Beauty classes are customizable. That means you can study one particular area or style if you want!
