Every now and again, my team and I crave creativity. After hours and hours of typing on a keyboard, we yearn for something a little more visual, where instead of working in front of a screen, we’d be facing a canvas.
It’s a good thing Halifax is a bustling hub of creativity, home to museums, galleries, and workshops to satisfy one’s art cravings. You don’t even have to paint like Van Gogh to join one!
If you have a flair for the arts or want to try a new craft, here are the most enjoyable art classes we’ve been to in Halifax. Try ‘em out, see which one you like, and paint the town red!

ArtHeal Studio M. lets us unleash our creativity, and that’s exactly why it’s one of our go-to spots in Halifax for art workshops. Everything’s thoroughly enjoyable without breaking the bank, with classes starting at $25.
The variety of art classes for all ages gives way to anyone in the HRM, from painting to sewing. My team and I particularly enjoyed their neurographic art class because it paints the stress away, giving you the freedom to keep your creative juices flowing.
If we describe them in four words: accessible art for all. Even seniors get an arts and crafts day every week, which includes acrylic painting and card making—and a complete experience with art supplies and a snack!
It’s a shame their private art classes only accommodate up to 8 people, as some people we know hoped to book a party. But we get why, since focused attention from their art instructor, who is CATA-registered (Canadian Art Therapy Association), is better for small groups.
Overall, we found them ideal for beginners and advanced students, especially if you appreciate artistic freedom in a laid-back environment.
A powerful and uplifting experience
“My Neurografica session with Mila Pack was a powerful and uplifting experience. Mila’s calm, supportive guidance made the process both accessible and deeply personal. I left feeling more grounded, with new insight into emotions I hadn’t fully processed. Her blend of creativity and mindfulness is truly special. Highly recommend to anyone seeking a new form of self-discovery and inner clarity.”

If you’re looking for fun art classes in Halifax to start your creative journey, Artsy Blossom is worth checking out. They’re all about fun, hands-on programs, which are open to kids and adults.
There’s a cornucopia of art programs for all ages. There are fun, pressure-free classes, like mosaic art and cookie decorating, and something a bit more advanced, like acrylic painting.
Our team had loads of fun, although we think they’re not the most ideal for advanced learners, since they’re the give-it-a-go type of studio. Still, they’re perfect for parent and child bonding time with their mommy/daddy & me art classes.
Even without a dedicated studio, they remain accessible. Basically, their programs are held in various areas in the HRM, usually in community centres.
The best part of it all? The totally enjoyable yet relaxing session. Even though you’ll be travelling to different locations for each art class, the whole thing’s still organised with good vibes all around.
Fantastic experience for all ages
“Artsy Blossom Event was honestly so much fun! It’s a fantastic experience for all ages. I went for the first time and I already can’t wait for the next one. Raneem, the owner, is incredibly kind, sweet, and super organized—she truly made the entire experience enjoyable. She has a wonderful way of making art and painting feel fun and approachable. I got to learn new techniques, socialize with great people, and create a beautiful art piece to take home. I highly recommend this place—it’s 100% worth it and just a great time all around! Check out the upcoming events and art classes on the website; there are various options!”

We appreciate The Art Space for allowing their students to spread their creative wings by providing mentorships that’ll let them grow as artists. That’s a mouthful, but that’s exactly what you’ll receive here.
Their instructor is highly qualified to teach drawing and painting, as he’s a freelance illustrator with a high level of creativity, having worked in comics and video games.
We found that they’re ideal for beginners and advanced learners, where you’ll learn new techniques and receive constructive criticism. Although they’re not the best for one-time art sessions, they do have a homeroom art club for mixed media and various crafts.
Our artist friends praised the availability of the open studio, which gives you access to their space to work on your project. Plus, the life drawing sessions, with a live model, allow advanced students to practice drawing nude poses.
Location-wise, they’re in Fall River, which is tough to reach without a vehicle. Then again, the stillness of the suburbs is always welcome if you want better focus.
The atmosphere is perfect for budding artists
“My child really enjoyed this class! They loved learning how to turn the drawings they love creating into an actual comic strip, as well as the different techniques involved. The atmosphere is perfect for budding artists to find inspiration, and Zen was really down to earth and super knowledgeable about all things art. We will be watching for future classes and would absolutely sign our child up again!”

Always communicative, professional, and fun
“My daughter attended a summer camp at the Artspace to design her own boardgame. She had a fantastic time, couldn’t wait to get there in the mornings and really enjoyed the process of developing her ideas and prototype game. Zen and the team were great hosts and always communicative, professional and fun. Would recommend without any hesitation.”

When it comes to fine art classes in Halifax, LinX Creative Art Studio is one of our choices for sharpening your skills (they have weekly art classes). They focus on the visual arts through painting, which is open to beginners and advanced painters.
There are loads of painting classes, which our whole team thoroughly enjoyed. The art classes are never boring here, particularly paint and sip, which is exactly what you think it is—painting while sipping wine!
We appreciate that there are still classes for kids, starting at age 6. Do note that no one below 13 is allowed at public classes (except for family art sessions) to avoid them hearing adult conversations.
No worries here! There are more than enough kids-only art classes, anyway, including after-school, weekly, and summer sessions. And while painting is the main focus, students can still enjoy the use of mixed media, like sculpting and weaving.
An amazing place to learn and create
“LinX Creative Art Studio is an amazing place to learn and create! The teacher is incredibly skilled and supportive, creating a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere. The studio has a great vibe, and the free parking is a fantastic bonus. Highly recommend this studio for anyone looking to explore their creative side!”

ArtWorks ticks all the boxes in kids’ and adult art classes in Nova Scotia. Yes, they welcome all ages of budding artists and anyone who seeks a new hobby.
This is one of our favorite spots for art workshops in Halifax. For example, there are drawing (for beginners and advanced students), painting (using various techniques), and pottery (like sculpting and clay wheel).
In one word: fun. We like that it’s all about fun and creativity here, perfect for kids who need an outlet for their imagination. In particular, the week-long summer art camp is where the kids’ creativity can run wild, although the slots tend to fill up fast.
And for adults itching to try something new, there’s always a workshop that’ll tickle every interest. It’s nice that most of the adult art classes come in seasonal themes, offering something exciting every time—a holiday mug for the wife, maybe?
Our favourite part? This art studio won’t burn a hole in your pocket. You’ll even find classes starting at $25 + tax!
The experience has given my son more confidence to explore his creativity
“My son (5.5 years old) attended their March break camp, and he loved it. He came home with lots of fun projects they’d worked on, and I can tell the experience has given him more confidence to explore his creativity even while his physical skills are still developing. Thanks to all the artists/staff for making it a positive and fun space for kids!”
