Lamoureux Architect (LAI) specialises in high-end residential architecture, creating custom homes that combine thoughtful design, functionality, and lasting appeal. Its work spans modern and classic styles, with an emphasis on developing distinctive residences that reflect each client’s vision and lifestyle.

The firm’s architectural approach prioritises collaboration rather than imposing a predetermined style. By listening to clients and encouraging an open exchange of ideas, LAI aims to develop designs that respond to individual preferences while maintaining a cohesive architectural vision.

Site-specific design is another key strength of its service. LAI considers the surrounding environment and property characteristics when planning homes, drawing on its experience with challenging steep sites and opportunities to maximise ocean views, particularly in the Vancouver area.

LAI offers a comprehensive range of architectural services, from property selection and zoning research to conceptual design, design development, permit applications, and construction drawings. Its involvement can continue through construction administration, with additional offerings that include 3D renderings, interior architecture, interior design, and furniture design.

Technical precision and material quality are central to the firm’s philosophy. LAI emphasises careful detailing and construction standards intended to create homes that remain appealing beyond current trends, while its team includes LEED AP certified professionals who bring expertise in green building considerations.

The firm’s experience includes projects ranging from large estates to inventive renovations, supported by a portfolio of both modern and classic residential designs. Its work has received recognition through distinctions such as a Silver Prize at the 2023 International Design Awards and an Honorable Mention at the 2022 Architecture MasterPrize.

Lamoureux Architect is particularly well suited to clients planning bespoke residential projects who value close collaboration, integrated design services, and careful attention to their property’s surroundings. Its full-service approach can help coordinate multiple stages of a project, making it a compelling option for homeowners seeking a personalised architectural experience with a strong emphasis on design quality.

Leckie Studio brings all the right tools to the table. Founded in 2015 by architect Michael Leckie, this firm is also an interdisciplinary studio, which makes them qualified to work on a wide range of project types.

Actually, their team pretty much handles everything for residential and commercial clients, including product design, interiors, and installation. But that’s not what completely impressed us.

They specialise in sustainable projects, focusing on passive solar design—basically a comfortable space in the middle of climate change! Honestly, we were super impressed when we saw their portfolio, which is filled with stunning, eco-friendly homes.

It’s worth noting that they have an in-house design team, which we appreciate because it means you don’t have to worry about working with subcontractors for functional and aesthetic visions.

It wasn’t surprising that they’ve won awards for their designs. Based on what we saw, their architects know how to design eye-catching homes and buildings, albeit for a price.

Personable and professional

“Michael and his team are incredible! So personable and professional. They continuously exceed my expectations and it’s always a pleasure to work with them. Highly recommend.”

Amazing to work with

“Michael leads a team of talented and engaged professionals that have been truly amazing to work with. They guided our experience whilst listening and understanding our needs and provided us with excellent takings.”

What we love about Perkins&Will is their focus on designing and building sustainable places. We really appreciate their principles because with every project, they prioritise environmental responsibility and functionality.

If you take a look at their portfolio, you’ll be surprised that you’ve probably come across their work in Vancouver. Many of their projects have even won awards, like the VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre!

While it’s nice that they handle residential and commercial projects, we noticed their focus is more on the latter. They usually work with real estate developers, so a single-family home is not the most ideal.

Nonetheless, if you’re their client, we think you’ll have a smooth working relationship. During our surveys, clients loved their creativity and responsiveness, ensuring everyone was always informed of any changes and developments.

Plus, their architects impressively have a global reach. Besides having studios outside of Canada, their Vancouver team also collaborate with international clients.

Great architectural studio

“Integrity, creative  design, social responsibility, environmental stewardship. A great architectural studio.”

Excellent example of adaptive reuse

“An excellent example of adaptive reuse in Yaletown, for the local office of a large international architecture practice. The atrium featuring the three storey living wall is fabulous feature and work environment amenity.”

When it comes to single-family homes, we love BLA Design Group. They didn’t disappoint with their projects, which we have to say are impressively stunning!

Honestly, we shouldn’t have been shocked, given their focus on curated modern homes. They actually specialise in combining architecture and nature, which are two things that can give you a peaceful and functional space, don’t you think?

It’s just a bummer that they solely make single-family homes, which means they’re not ideal for commercial and industrial projects or even multi-family units. But hey, they can actually get the job done!

They’re an internationally award-winning architectural firm in Vancouver, which adds some sparkle to their resume. And when we did check their portfolio, we were in awe at their beautiful designs.

In addition, we love how they can incorporate other cultures in their designs without losing the modern aspect, which speaks volumes about their creativity and flexibility—it also shows how well they communicate with clients!

Great eye for detail

“Jerry and his firm BLA Designs, designed our duplex, handled permitting, sourced and selected all the materials/ fixtures and drew up all the millwork for our duplex. Jerry has a great eye for detail, is responsive, listens and addressed all our needs.  I am a very happy homeowner and I would highly recommend all his services without hesitation to anyone!  Everyone who sees our new duplex always say “wow” when they enter and we get many compliments from people walking by our house.”

Thoughtful, insightful, and collaborative

“Jerry and Jesse were amazing to work with on our custom new build home in North Vancouver. Scope included architectural design, interior design and FFE selection. We leaned on them for advice on many fronts and they were thoughtful, insightful and collaborative the entire time. They love what they do and are passionate about great design. A pleasure to work with and a team we would love to work with again!”

For over 15 years, Cutler has served Vancouver and, given their longevity, they’ve been successful! They also have the evidence to back it up, having transformed blueprints into over 1,200 standing projects!

Their focus is on light industrial and commercial buildings, which sadly, makes them unavailable for residential clients. It’s not a massive issue since they still cater to a wide range of sectors, such as retail, healthcare, and food service.

A compliment that kept on popping up during our surveys was Cutler’s collaborative approach. The clients we spoke with appreciated how good their communication skills were, especially with advice and possible changes to the plans.

When it comes to what their architects can bring to life, we were impressed by how they can deliver functionality and aesthetics to any space. Their clients, specifically, loved the finished products.

Sure, designing and building a space is not cheap, but these Vancouver architects have earned praise for not going over the budget!

Extremely resourceful and creative

“Cutler has been an outstanding partner throughout the creation of our retail brand. Every member on the Cutler team has been extremely resourceful, creative and willing to go the extra mile. I always encourage progress over perfection across our organization… And with Cutler you get both!”

Great team who do quality work

“Flight Centre Travel Group (Canada) has been working with Cutler for several years on our Retail & Office tenant improvement projects. They’re a great team and do quality work. I have no hesitation recommending anyone try them out. John van Tuinen – VP Property”

Founded in 2015, MA Architects has become a reliable architectural firm in Vancouver. Impressively, they don’t just create the designs but also build the projects—we mean that literally because they have a construction company!

Their range of services limits the need to outsource contractors because they can do it all in-house—nice! After all, they’re a full-service firm, which means they have architects, interior designers, and project managers on the team.

Another thing we love about them is they handle residential, commercial, and industrial projects. While that makes them accessible, that also keeps them busy, so it’s not uncommon to wait a while for an opening in their schedule.

That’s fine since it means they’re a trusted architectural firm. If you take a look at their portfolio, you’ll be impressed at their client list—they do major renovations and multi-storey buildings!

Lastly, their ability to work within the budget is impressive, and most clients have praised them for this!

A pleasure to work with

“I would highly recommend MA Architects. They were a pleasure to work with, the drawings were done when they said they would be and were approved by the city without any changes required. I will be using them for my next project without any hesitation.”
