Pros

  • Offers free privileged and confidential consultation
  • Responsive and informative staff
  • Excellent follow-up services

Cons

  • Has a small team

Mather Tax Law & Tax Dispute Resolution legal assistance and representation for their clients’ tax appeals, tax debt problems, tax disputes, taxpayer relief from interest and penalties, and voluntary disclosure applications.

We like that they offer free privileged and confidential consultations to briefly discuss your tax situation, the rates, and other related matters. This helps clients make informed decisions.

Moreover, we appreciate how responsive and informative their lawyers and staff are, from initial consultations to planning and action.

For instance, we noticed that the firm is quick to respond to emails containing a list of concerns and questions. Many clients are satisfied with their communication with the firm even if they don’t proceed with their services.

In addition, they are also very informative for those who prefer to receive crucial advice to self-represent in court.

Another thing we think is impressive is that they have the experience and skills to tackle simple and complex cases. Some clients had personal tax issues, and some had more complex ones, like buying a company’s assets with major tax issues.

On the downside, we found they have a small team of lawyers and staff, which makes it harder for them to juggle more clients at a time. But, we have to give it to them for consistently providing quality tax dispute solutions.

Pros

  • Has a no engagement, no fee policy
  • Quick responses
  • Thorough and efficient services

Cons

  • Has a small team

Tax Ninja Tax Law provides a wide range of tax-related legal services in Edmonton. Some of the services they offer include personal and corporate tax planning, tax appeals, criminal tax evasion, tax audits, and tax objections.

We admire their initiative to utilize the advanced technology to assist their tax lawyers and accountants in efficiently resolving tax issues. To name a few, they have access to QuickBooks, Sage, TaxnetPro, TaxFind, and more.

So, we believe these digital tools significantly contribute to efficiency and fast processing time.

However, we are slightly concerned about their small team of lawyers since it puts them at a higher risk of being understaffed.

On the bright side, we like that they quickly respond to calls and emails, regardless if it’s your first time contacting them or not. And we think it’s good that they can respond to your emails within minutes after you send them.

We also appreciate how they are thorough and efficient with their services, such as understanding and explaining the potential nuances involved in tax issues.

Lastly, we’re glad that Tax Ninja has a no engagement, no fee new file review policy. In other words, they assess your situation and provide preliminary recommendations as well as a cost estimate for your case at no cost.

Pros

  • Has a large team of tax lawyers
  • Provides effective legal advice and representation

Cons

  • Can improve customer service

Since its establishment in 1978, Felesky Flynn LLP has provided tax law solutions, such as tax planning, representation and litigation.

That said, their wide range of services includes corporate, personal, indirect and international tax, criminal tax defence, audits and CRA cases, and more.

We are impressed with their experience in handling complicated cases for over 40 years. Their long-running history has allowed them to hone in and develop their skills, like mastering tax nuances.

It’s also a plus that Felesky Flynn LLP has a large team of tax lawyers to assist you with specific tax disputes. Conveniently, their website shows individual profiles of the lawyers where clients can do initial browsing of their area of expertise and affiliations.

But, we also think the firm needs to improve their customer service since we heard some clients are not fully satisfied with their services.

Fortunately, we are highly impressed by their top-notch legal advice and representation, especially for clients that have problems with the CRA. It’s also worth noting that they finish a case efficiently and timely, whether it involves going to court or not.

Ultimately, we feel that Felesky Flynn LLP is a solid choice, given their consistent services throughout four decades and their expertise with complex cases.

Pros

  • Provides an external network for further assistance
  • Informative and friendly lawyer
  • Fluent in ten languages

Cons

  • Slow processing time
  • Has a small team of tax lawyers

With over 45 years of experience, Masuch Law LLP has continued to offer legal support in Edmonton and Calgary. Some areas of law they practice include tax, real estate, wills and estates, and business and family law.

We like that their team speaks at least nine other languages, such as French, Russian, Marathi, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Persian, Farsi and Arabic. Being multilingual in a tax dispute case allows clients to understand and lawyers to explain better.

On top of that, we appreciate their connection with external networks to assist and help negotiate a settlement or payment terms with CRA.

Although, we think it’s a shame that they have a slow processing time for some cases, considering most delays are from standard deliverables needed for the tax case.

In addition, we’re also concerned about their small team of tax lawyers, wherein almost all of them are assigned in Calgary. That said, we believe that this puts the firm at risk of having no immediate tax lawyer available in Edmonton.

On the bright side, we noticed that their team and lawyers are friendly and informative, making it easier for clients to get comfortable and fully grasp the situation.

Overall, we figure that Masuch Law LLP is a reliable firm for your tax disputes, especially with their long-running history in the field.

Pros

  • Has a large team
  • Has an online client portal
  • Has over 100 years of experience
  • Offers alternative fee arrangements

Cons

  • Slightly pricier than other firms
  • Slow processing time

For over a century, Field law continues to give clients legal assistance for tax, intellectual property, business, bankruptcy, employment, and real estate law.

We are impressed by their large team of around 120 lawyers and 180 staff across Edmonton, Calgary, and Yellowknife. Their pool of lawyers has an assortment of specialties which can be used to their advantage, especially with unique cases.

But, we feel a bit iffy that they still have a slow processing time, despite large numbers of employees. For instance, some clients had to wait over four months for their documents — targeted to have been done in six weeks.

As for their pricing, we noticed that they have slightly pricier rates than other firms. We suggest clients confirm any concerns regarding their budget and fees.

Fortunately, we also learned that Field Law offers alternative fee arrangements by being flexible in structuring their billing arrangements. This approach accommodates the clients’ budget, depending on the type of case they’re involved with.

Another thing we like is that they have a client extranet or portal that allows you to upload documents and communicate with lawyers and the rest of the team. It’s also a plus that it helps you track the progress or look into specific concerns of your case.
