Pros
- Open since 1982
- Offers full services
- Has four offices in Alberta
- Provides services in other languages
- Offers free consultation
Cons
- Instances of slow responses
- Some issues with slow physical mail
Biamonte LLP has been in the industry since 1982. It’s a full-service Edmonton law firm with three more offices in Alberta, allowing it to reach more clients.
One of the things we like about Biamonte is that all of its lawyers appeared at all levels of court in Alberta. Because of this, we believe potential clients will feel confident in their level of expertise.
Another advantage we found is their services are available for those who speak French, Italian, and Ukrainian. The way we see it, this level of assistance will be highly beneficial to immigrants who aren’t entirely confident in their English skills yet.
In addition, they offer many legal services, preventing a client from jumping from one firm to another.
Although some people might prefer a firm specialising in bankruptcy only, we don’t find this a problem here because they have experienced lawyers handling bankruptcy cases.
Aside from bankruptcy, they also provide insolvency services. We find this great news because only licensed insolvency trustees can administer insolvency proceedings in Canada.
Moreover, it means Biamonte has a team that can assist specifically with the bankruptcy process in Edmonton. For us, it’s fantastic that an experienced legal team can provide a smooth process in a stressful situation.
We also appreciate the free consultation. Because of this, clients can gauge the possible working relationship with the lawyer before signing an agreement.
Unfortunately, we find it disappointing that Biamonte sometimes doesn’t respond quickly to calls or emails, particularly in closed cases.
Others also had issues receiving their bills and documents because some got them months after the promised date.

Pros
- Specialises in bankruptcy law
- High familiarity with bankruptcy cases
- Offers free initial consultations
Cons
- Small firm
- Limited number of lawyers
Established in 2014, Mosaico Law focuses on helping people through the stressful and complicated legal system. One of its specialisations is in bankruptcy and insolvency, as well as litigation and family law.
It has limited services, which some may not like in a law firm. But for us, this can assure clients that the legal team has the right skills and experience in handling bankruptcy issues.
Moreover, we believe many clients will appreciate their familiarity with bankruptcy. We also see this as a great advantage when navigating the different aspects of bankruptcy law.
In fact, Mosaico Law has worked with several large companies in lengthy trials. And we find this excellent for clients due to the legal team’s understanding of financial situations.
We also admire that they offer free initial consultations. It’s worth noting that they will thoroughly discuss their rates, ensuring that the client has all the information before proceeding with the case.
Another worth mentioning is they volunteer for the Edmonton Community Legal Centre. It offers free legal advice and support, allowing low-income residents to get the legal help they need.
As for the quality of service, past clients have complimented the legal team’s knowledge and helpfulness. They were also kind and professional, which we appreciate, particularly in tough situations.
However, we do have a minor concern. Mosaico Law is a small firm with few lawyers.
As a result, this can act as a barrier when hiring them during busy months. When there are many cases, you may have difficulty getting their services.
3. Emery Jamieson LLP

Pros
- Has been around for over 120 years
- Large team
- Many lawyers specialising in bankruptcy
- Offers free consultations
Cons
- Some potential clients didn’t get immediate responses
- A few delays with case status
Emery Jamieson LLP was established way back in 1893 under the name Beck and Emery. It was in 1972 that it changed its name to Emery Jamieson, which it still uses to this day.
One of the things we like, apart from setting its roots in the 19th century, is the large legal team. Because of this, they can provide services to Edmontonians even during busy months.
In addition, there are multiple lawyers specialising in bankruptcy, which we like because the firm can cater to many clients going through the same situations.
We also appreciate that despite the many lawyers, their credentials are readily available on the website for easy viewing. Looking for a reliable lawyer can be challenging, which is why we appreciate the available information.
Moreover, the legal team lessens the stress for clients because they offer free consultations. We find this helpful, considering the financial stress clients are already in.
It’s worth highlighting that despite having a large legal team, they all have shown continued professionalism. Past clients agreed, too, because their lawyers were incredibly helpful during stressful situations.
That’s why we were disappointed to hear about some miscommunication issues. A few people looking to hire Emery Jamieson didn’t get a response from the staff immediately, which left them dissatisfied.
Another area for improvement was that some clients had delays with their case status. We believe that these issues could’ve been resolved sooner with better communication.
4. SN Law Office

Pros
- Easy booking system
- Convenient location
- Offers full services
Cons
- Doesn’t specialise in bankruptcy law
- Minor complaints about unresponsiveness
For over 20 years, SN Law Office has continued to provide full services to Edmontonians. Its location in South Edmonton offers convenience, too, because of the ample parking areas.
Its variety of services, aside from bankruptcy law, allows many clients to hire the firm for different kinds of cases. However, they specialise mostly in international corporate law, which we think can deter clients who are going through bankruptcy.
We appreciate the 30-minute initial consultation. Some bankruptcy law firms in Edmonton only allow 20 minutes or less, which is why SN Law Office earns bonus points in our book.
The online appointment system is quick and easy, too. Moreover, clients can book their preferred time, providing convenience.
Our main concern is they have a small legal team. Because of the limited number of lawyers, some clients may experience delays during busy times at the office.
In addition, we find that some people might choose a different law firm in Edmonton because the principal lawyer doesn’t entirely specialise in bankruptcy law.
On the positive side, the clients we surveyed appreciated the respectful approach given to them. We commend the honesty and support the clients were shown, regardless of their financial situation.
But we feel an improvement in communication will be beneficial for future cases. There were times when no one was available to answer inquiries, which can be bothersome.
5. Duncan Craig LLP
Services: Financial services and banking, insolvency and restructuring, administrative law, family law, personal injury, etc.

Pros
- Established in 1894
- Convenient location
- Has a large number of lawyers
- Some lawyers can practice outside Alberta
Cons
- Minor complaints about customer service
- Higher rates
We first noticed Duncan Craig LLP because of its roots dating back to 1894. One of its founding partners was William Short, the first mayor of Edmonton when it became a city.
Impressively, its location in Scotia Place is incredibly convenient. It’s connected to the LRT and the pedway system, allowing clients to move around without worrying about weather changes.
Another aspect we appreciate is its large number of lawyers and staff. We believe that a big team allows the firm to cater to many clients in different legal situations, especially in bankruptcy law.
In addition, some lawyers are legally able to practice in different provinces and territories. The firm’s flexibility and availability are some things we admire because they can reach people outside of Edmonton.
Moreover, there are lawyers with vast experience in bankruptcy law. And since many of them have appeared at all levels of Court in Alberta, we think clients can trust them due to their knowledge.
However, we find that some big law firms tend to have minor problems with customer service, and Duncan Craig LLP is no exception.
It’s because some clients complained about the staff. We heard issues about unresponsiveness and unpleasant phone calls, which were disappointing.
Also, considering this is a big and popular firm, they have higher rates than other law firms. So, it’s better to have complete details about the fees before signing a legal agreement.
