Pros

  • Handles many different types of media
  • Secures data for assurance
  • Offers same-day service
  • Has emergency services
  • Prompt service

Cons

  • Closes early on Saturdays
  • Closed on weekends

In 2014, datapros was established in Edmonton to provide a vast array of data recovery services. Despite only eight years in the business, its technicians have worked in the industry for over 20 years.

We appreciate its location in the Hargate Tower. There is a tonne of parking areas near the building for convenience.

Upon checking their data recovery process, we saw that the team recently invested in new equipment and tools. With these additions, the technicians can provide a safer and more effective service.

As for pricing, datapros can’t provide an accurate fee. It’s because data recovery needs to be analysed first with lab diagnostics, and depending on the difficulty, the prices may differ each time.

But we appreciate that they have available fees for non-rush services. Remember that this may take days or weeks, depending on the severity.

Moreover, we like the reasonable prices for lab diagnostics. One hard drive costs $49, while mobile phones are $59 each.

Additionally, level 1 recovery starts at $250 per hard drive. But if you need repairs first, expect a higher fee due to the complexity.

Also, we appreciate the same-day and emergency services. However, expect that this will cost you a more expensive lab diagnostics fee of $200.

Unfortunately, the shop is closed on Sundays in case of unexpected repairs. It also closes early on Saturdays, which can be a tad inconvenient.

On a good note, the technicians handle many media types, from USBs to servers. We’re also impressed with their expertise, resulting in immediate backups from fried drives, which they sometimes did in less than 24 hours.

Lastly, they can save your recovered data for a while to ensure secure recovery. In our opinion, this assures clients of unexpected situations after datapros recovery.

Pros

  • Earned certification in Washington, DC
  • Works on all operating systems
  • Handles all hard drives
  • Accepts walk-ins
  • Has emergency services
  • Fast turnaround time

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • Slight parking difficulty

Data Lab opened in Sherwood Park in 2017. It was only in 2021 that it moved its location to Edmonton, but this time, it has a bigger space.

Before opening the shop, the technicians earned their certification in Washington, DC. With the knowledge they’ve acquired, we’re glad they can handle different types of media recovery.

Further, they work on Mac, Windows, and Linux. Also, they can handle all drive models, giving more opportunities for many clients.

But what we admire is the convenience and accessibility they offer their clients. They accept walk-ins, or you can ship your material to them if you’re busy.

Sadly, they have limited availability as they’re closed on weekends. We believe clients who work on regular business days may have difficulty hiring their services.

Another thing we appreciate is they have strict protocols to ensure confidentiality. We respect how they treat all types of files the same: holiday photos, videos, or sensitive files.

As for their prices, we like that they offer a flat diagnosis fee for all media. But you can ask for urgent service at an additional cost.

But they offer transparency because they don’t charge recovery fees if they can’t recover your data. We think clients will appreciate this because it doesn’t feel like a money-grab service.

Moreover, they have fast turnaround times. Some clients even received their recovered data on the same day.

Finally, we suggest driving early to get a parking spot. Street parking is available near the shop, but other public spaces need a bit of a walk.

Pros

  • Operating since 1989
  • Services Canada and the US
  • Has free evaluation
  • Provides free round-trip shipping
  • Offers four-month payment plan
  • Has emergency services

Cons

  • Closed on weekends
  • Limited booking availability

Rescue Data Recovery Laboratory has been operating since 1989. With these years in the business, it has gained many clients, not only in Alberta but in the US as well.

In fact, it has worked with many companies like Environment Canada, EPCOR, Shell, and Best Buy, among others. In our opinion, the trust of these companies can help gain potential clients.

We appreciate the free round-trip shipping for data recovery. Even if you’re from outside of Edmonton, you can hire them and download the shipping label on their website.

What’s more, Rescue Data offers free evaluation, which is unique to this type of service. Since data recovery can be costly, this will save you some money.

Additionally, they have a four-month payment plan. We like this offer because it helps clients on a tight budget or those with extreme data loss.

On top of that, they won’t charge you a recovery fee unless they can retrieve your data. The good thing about this is the transparency and honesty it shows the clients.

If you require urgent service, they charge a fair price of $100. But note that they will only fix your device during regular business hours.

Unfortunately, they are open for less than six hours, five days a week. Rush services will have a turnaround time of three to five business days; if your case is difficult, it may still take some time.

On the other hand, you can opt for emergency service at an hourly charge. With this, you can expect the technicians to work outside regular business days for a fee.

An improvement would be their customer service. There were instances of miscommunication issues with some clients.

Lastly, they have an easy booking system. But there’s limited availability with some unavailable days.

Pros

  • Over 30 years of experience
  • TIA-certified
  • Offers free shipping
  • Provides free donor drives and parts
  • Has emergency services

Cons

  • Has a minimum fee for free shipping
  • No free shipping for second attempts

With over 30 years of experience, Data Recovery Expert has continued to serve Canada and the neighbouring US through shipments to its Calgary lab.

It’s fully certified by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). This entails that the company is qualified to verify data according to the proper standards, which can earn the client’s trust as it assures quality service.

Since data recovery can be stressful, we appreciate the company’s necessary steps to ensure your privacy rights. The way we see it, this helps ease the concerns regarding confidential data.

Understandably, some clients will go to different companies to get multiple opinions. So we like that they offer a discounted price if you ask them for a second opinion.

Besides that, they have free evaluations no matter your case. We like this offer because it helps save some money on an otherwise costly recovery.

On top of that, they provide free donor drives and parts. This is another way of saving money compared to similar services that will charge you a separate fee.

Moreover, they have free shipping so that you can drop off your device anywhere in Canada. However, it only applies if your service costs more than $250.

Also, free shipping doesn’t apply to opened devices and second attempts. Such cases will require you to pay for shipping.

On the other hand, they offer 24/7 emergency services. We appreciate this great option for unexpected crashes.

Lastly, Data Recovery Expert has partnered with several companies, allowing you a discount as long as you show your reference.

Pros

  • Specialises on online data recovery
  • Provides flexibility
  • Has a fixed rate
  • Offers online data downloads

Cons

  • Not emergency services
  • Long turnaround time

iRescueData specialises in online data recovery services. It offers flexibility and availability to anyone living across Canada.

We appreciate their unique system because it offers plenty of wiggle room regarding clients’ busy schedules.

As for the process, you need to start a work order first by filling up their detailed online form. Only after sending the form will you get a confirmation.

Now, regarding your data, they have secure hosts so you can download the recovered files. The drawback is that you may get additional charges from your internet provider if you have certain download limitations.

In addition, depending on your internet plan and data size, downloading may take hours to finish. On the positive side, you can opt for a new drive which they can mail to you for a price.

Speaking of prices, iRescueData has fixed rates so that everyone will pay the same fee. We also like that there is no diagnosis fee.

However, we don’t recommend this service if you need urgent data recovery. It’s because it can take up to two months until you get your data back.

Also, don’t expect emergency services since they don’t do rush orders. If your case is a bit more complicated, you might have to wait for your data longer.

Finally, iRescueData deletes all your data once they finish your recovery service. We believe many clients will appreciate the immediate deletion for privacy.
