Top 5 Bike Shops in Montreal We Recommend to Beginners and Enthusiasts

Store: First, we checked the store’s maintenance, organization, and overall ambience.

Variety: Next, we looked at the variety of brands and bike types they offered.

Accessories: We also wanted to include stores that offered a full range of essentials.

Services: Our choices also favoured shops that offered services, such as bike fitting, repair, and maintenance.

After-sales: We also reviewed their warranties and policies.

Community: These stores should also have a strong sense of community.

Accessibility: Next, we considered the accessibility of their location, operating hours, and delivery options.

Pricing: Lastly, we wanted to find stores that offered a wide price range from affordable to high-end.

Getting a new bike is one of those feelings that never gets old, regardless of whether it happens during your childhood or when you’re a full-blown adult. My experience fell into the latter, when I discovered my love for riding after some friends of mine recommended it for stress relief.

However, I must say that I wouldn’t have been able to ride across various long, winding roads and hiking trails in Quebec if I hadn’t visited a top-notch bike shop in Montreal. I also want to help new students of the game find a place to get started, so my team and I made this review!

From high-quality bikes to custom bike fittings and thriving communities, discover the reasons why you should check out these top bike shops in Montreal!

Cycles and Sports Robert is a no-brainer inclusion for us due to its extensive 50+ years of industry experience—a testament to its consistent customer service and reliability.

Speaking of reliability, the shop’s staff is highly trusted by clients for their honesty and knowledge. They can assess customers’ biking habits through a thorough personalized fitting experience, and don’t recommend anything pricier than what they need.

The shop is also a go-to for repair and maintenance services due to its quick turnaround times. We’ve seen their staff at work first-hand, and they’re extremely efficient at troubleshooting and work with finesse, whether it’s chain waxing or parts replacements.

We also love browsing the shop’s huge inventory of accessories. It’s also quite the paradise for both beginners and advanced riders, thanks to its wide array of bike types, like electric, road, and mountain bikes from different well-known brands.

The online store and delivery options are also highly appreciated—we just wish they would extend the hours of their physical shop.

Pros

  • Honest and knowledgeable workers
  • 50+ years of industry experience
  • Wide variety of brands and bike types
  • Expert bike-fitting services
  • Reliable repairs

Cons

  • Limited operating hours

Incredible customer service

“I’ve been to many bike shops in my life, but none have felt quite as special as this one, thanks to the incredible customer service from Pierre.

I walked in randomly on a Wednesday afternoon with only a general idea of what I was looking for, and before long, after what felt like a masterclass from Pierre, I had found the perfect bike for me.

I couldn’t be happier with my experience and highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for genuine expertise and great service.”

– Kevin Veneziano, Google Review

Absolutely essential

“I’m so glad I came to Cycle Robert! Pierre did a 3-hour fit for me, and for a beginner cyclist like me, it was absolutely essential.

He started by understanding my physical condition, cycling habits, and workout routine, then adjusted the bike step by step until it fit me perfectly. He only recommends what’s best for you— not the most expensive or fanciest option.

The other staff members here also have extensive knowledge and experience. Whatever cycling or bike-related questions you have, they will help you find the right answer.

I drove 6.5 hours round trip to get this fit, and I’m so grateful I made the trip. My cycling efficiency and comfort have improved noticeably.”

Bicycles Eddy is a go-to for many Montreal bikers due to its large inventory of bikes that caters to all levels of experience and ages. They offer everything from kids’ bikes to electric, road, and hybrid bikes.

Furthermore, the brands they carry aren’t to be ignored, including Cannondale, Arbor 18, and Norco. It’s also much appreciated that they offer a wide range of specialty bikes for those who go dirt jumping or want something foldable for a more convenient commute.

We must admit, some of their bikes are a bit pricey, which is why it’s much-appreciated that they offer in-house financing options. Clients we spoke to shared how much the staff worked with them to settle on a plan that would suit their budget.

The staff members are also highly regarded by customers due to their extensive knowledge of biking.

The only thing that Bicycles Eddy doesn’t tick is putting effort into building a community, as it doesn’t hold group rides, races, etc.

Pros

  • Wide array of bike types
  • Reliable repair and maintenance services
  • Extensive accessory and gear inventory
  • Offers flexible financing options
  • Friendly and knowledgeable workers

Cons

  • Slightly lacking in community contribution

Nothing but fantastic

“I got my first gravel bike here a few months back, and the experience has been nothing but fantastic: from the product itself to the care I’ve received in making a decision and having it adjusted for me properly.

The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer all my questions or to clear my concerns.

I found the prices fair, plenty of variety across bicycles and accessories, and I don’t hesitate to recommend this shop to anyone I know. Much appreciated!”

– Mihai Mitrea, Google Review

I got an outstanding deal

“David and the crew at Bicycles Eddy did a terrific job of preparing my Argon 18 Grey Matter Rival. The service, attention to detail, and responses to my many questions were all phenomenal.

And as if that weren’t enough, I got an outstanding deal on the bike itself. This is a top-notch establishment!”

Our respondents recommended Emile Bicycles for its exceptionally genuine customer service, courtesy of its owner. Emile is described by regulars as being caring, often charging nothing if the fix is relatively small and easy.

His deep mechanical knowledge is also worth highlighting, as he can diagnose damage quickly and provide effective, sometimes unconventional fixes.

It may not offer the largest selection of bike types and brands, but it’s more than made up for by the personalized shopping experience. The staff members pay close attention to each client to help them find the perfect model for their budget and needs, without upselling.

We also appreciate how the store doesn’t fall short on essentials, including bike pumps, helmets, fenders, and more, making parts replacements a breeze.

One of the main factors we recommend Emile Bicycles, however, is its in-depth tune-up packages. They range from $60 to $95 and include services such as brake adjustment, chain lubrication, wheel alignment, and more.

Pros

  • Genuine customer service
  • In-depth tune-up packages
  • Personalized experience
  • Exceptional repair and tune-up services

Cons

  • Slightly smaller inventory

Treated me with genuine respect

“A true gem.

I inherited a disassembled bike from a friend and had taken it to another store for assembly, but the headset was so shaky that I was in fear when riding it.

Emile fixed it. He took the time to explain what the problem was (mismatched parts), walked me through the options, pricing, and his recommendation. He further showed me the replaced parts when I came to pick up the bike. I not only got my bike fixed, but I also learned something!

He didn’t delay the return date (as the other store had done) and finished right on time. Pricing was fair.

He replaced the worn brake pads for free, which I had noticed but forgotten to mention, and pumped the tires (and I wouldn’t be surprised if he did other small extras I haven’t noticed). I left feeling that he treated me with genuine respect and my bike with genuine care.”

– Sara Desmonts, Google Review

Service was lightning fast

“This is a small, unobtrusive shop on Park near the corner of Pine. It is run by a person who cares about being sure your bicycle is in proper running order and about explaining carefully what he plans to do and how much it will cost.

Fixed what was obviously wrong with my bike and a few other non-obvious things, too. Prices were reasonable, and service was lightning fast. An exceptionally good bike shop.”

We want to include Allo Vélo because of its lifestyle approach to biking, offering more niche and high-end brands, and accessories. It’s not the cheapest option, but it’s perfect for enthusiasts and urban riders who want a premium bike that’ll stand the test of time.

They offer a variety of models, from cargo to hybrid and electric bikes, all from major brands. The selection can be overwhelming, which is why we appreciate them offering test drives.

Avid bikers also praise the store for nurturing a space that promotes the hobby as a lifestyle. We were even surprised to see customers mingling with coffees in hand while they waited for their bikes to be repaired.

Regulars we spoke with also noted how quickly the workers are at different tune-ups, from chain lubrication to wheel alignment, etc. They’re also knowledgeable regarding different issues that bikers usually face, which is why they can easily diagnose them.

Pros

  • Warm and welcoming community vibes
  • Free coffee
  • Incorporates lifestyle in biking
  • Offers rentals
  • Ready-to-ride bikes
  • Impressive selection

Cons

  • Much more niche-focused with premium pricing

Speed and quality of service are unmatched!

“Best bike shop I’ve had the pleasure of stepping into on the island of Montreal! This place was recommended to me by a passing cyclist when I mentioned long waiting times at other shops for simple maintenance.

Within 2 hours, they had my bike fully checked, offered sound advice on personal maintenance, and installed a kickstand on my nonstandard RadMission bike. Their shop is well equipped, and the coffee they serve while you wait for repairs is delicious.

I highly recommend anyone who needs work done on their bike or is looking for bike parts/accessories come to this shop, the speed and quality of service is unmatched!”

– Yann Mack, Google Review

Service was exceptional

“After unsuccessfully shopping at other stores in the hopes of finding a setup that would fit two chihuahuas, I finally got outstanding service here!

Not only did they take the time to answer my lengthy questions over Google chats promptly, but the in-store service was exceptional, and I left equipped with a safe and secure setup for my dogs to bike with me. Top quality products and service! Thank you”

Trek Bicycle is one of the most world-renowned manufacturers in the industry, which is why it’s just right to feature one of its stores in our review. Of course, the only downside here is its limited brand selection, but it does offer one of the most impressive selections of Trek bikes.

Since the store focuses solely on Trek bikes, customers can customize every part of their models, from the handlebars to the frame. Also, having all bikes as Treks isn’t too bad, considering the durability of their products.

The store is also quite spacious, but it’s never too intimidating to browse since it’s organized. Plus, the staff members are always ready to assist customers in finding the right bike for them.

Lastly, we recommend this store for its comprehensive after-sales support, which includes a 30-day return guarantee and complete coverage on bikes and parts. Furthermore, bikes purchased from the store are eligible for lifetime discounted adjustments.

Pros

  • Wide range of bike types and accessories
  • Customizable options
  • Comprehensive after-sales support
  • Skilled and friendly mechanics
  • Convenient online shopping options
  • Spacious and well-organized store

Cons

  • Only features one brand

Super friendly staff

“What a great experience to purchase a bike. Super friendly staff, good prices. I wasn’t expecting such a smooth process. They installed all the accessories in less than one hour, and we were ready to go.

I remember when I purchased a Trek bike at Primeau Velo, I had to wait 3 weeks for the accessories to be installed. Definitely, if you love Trek bikes, avoid resellers and better call trek”

– Oscar Arzola, Google Review

Took their time to answer ALL of my questions

“The service and hospitality I received from the store were exemplary. I felt like I was buying an assurance that there will always be someone to help me with my bike whenever I need, wherever I am in North America.

Enzo and Jerold took their time to answer ALL of my questions and asked their own to help me find my perfect bike. They allowed me to test ride it twice before I purchased it. I’ll never go to another bike store again!”
